Latest from LindaWe had a lot of excitement here in February when a casting director from NBC in Hollywood called to invite George Zima and the Snappy Tappers to send an audition tape to be on Steve Harvey’s newest show – Forever Young. We have a lot of talent here at the Mary Lubko Center: George Zima and the Snappy Tappers, the Step-In-Time Dance Troop, Beyond Glee Chorus led by Paul Sirvatka, and Silvertones Chorus led by Martha McMillen. They all inspire and remind me it’s never too late for dreams to come true – whether that’s being on national TV or performing for friends, family, and the community. Driving ProgramsRules of the Road – Take a free class with an instructor from the Secretary of State to help you prepare for your written test. Upcoming dates: June 14 or October 11. Class is held at the Mary Lubko Center, 208 W. Union Ave., Wheaton, 1-2:30P.

Defensive Drive – Take an eight-hour class (classroom, not driving) presented by AARP. Upcoming Dates: May 3-4, September 6-7, or December 6-7. Class is held 9A-1P at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard St., Wheaton (home of Rice Pool). Please note classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday, and you must attend both days to receive your certificate. Cost: $15 with AARP card or $20 without card. Bring a check to class made out to AARP.

Defense at Bridge Defense is the hardest part of bridge. Learn to talk with each other by the cards you play, using attitude, count, and suit preference. Learn about all the old bridge clichés (cover an honor with an honor, third hand high, second hand low, etc.). Become a tough defender and have more fun playing this beloved game. Instructors Ron and Phyllis Fogel met at a bridge club thirtysome years ago, fell in love, got married, and have been playing bridge together ever since. They've played across the country and around the world. For the past three years, this dynamic duo has shared their knowledge and passion for the game with Mary Lubko members.
