Act Of Kindness
Congratulations Congratulations to the following students who received an award at assembly for either being learning heroes or for displaying the school values: Maggie Russell (Perseverance), Phoebe Pitt (Managing Distractions), Luka Hill (Respect), Charlie Finlay (Persistence), Oliver Whelan (Integrity), Chloe Briggs (Making Links), Larry Smith (Noticing) and Sid Scarlett (Absorption).
Congratulations to Pia Pettigrew who is this
week’s recipient of the Act of Kindness. Pia
showed empathy for a fellow classmate.
When she heard that one of her classmates
didn’t have any dress ups to wear for the
Book Week Parade, she went home, sorted
through her own dress ups, and picked some
out to give to this students so that this
student could feel special. Pia didn’t want
her classmate to miss out and did
something positive about it.

From the Principal
I spoke to Sue Wearne earlier this week. Her trip has started well and she is slowly making her way across the Nullabor. She has seen whales and their young, which she said was very special. She has started to relax and is enjoying exploring Australia!
My thanks to all 94 parents who took the time to complete the survey about the Uniform Policy. A great deal of thought has been put into the responses and this is very much appreciated. School Council will start working through the responses next term; the outcome of these discussions will be communicated to parents.
Year 5/6 students had a visit from members of Project Rockit last week. The focus was on developing an understanding of bullying behaviour and how to deal with it. The students gained an understanding that in order for incidents to be classified as Bullying they need to tick three boxes:
The behaviour is repeated.
There is a level of unfair power (eg: a group of students against one).
It has to be on purpose.
The current Manners Focus is to look at the person to whom you are speaking.
If you have not yet enrolled your child for Prep 2014 please do so as soon as possible.
Congratulations Congratulations to the following students for their results in the recent Educational Assessments (University of NSW): Writing – Participation: Georgia Fraser, Holly Aston, Alex Colliver, Josie Wende-Lewins and Ashleigh Zawadka; Credit: Amber Willcocks; Distinction: Matilda-Pearl Muir, Grace Plumridge and Tom Maltby; High Distinction: Jemma Tolson. Spelling – Participation: Alex Colliver, Tom Maltby, Jemma Tolson, Josie Wende-Lewins and Ashleigh Zawadka; Credit: Matilda-Pearl Muir; Distinction: Grace Plumridge.

Waste Wise
Lions Quiz Last Thursday Alice Schlipalius, Harry Woinarski, Tom Maltby and I competed against two other schools in the annual Primary Schools Lions Quiz. Answering five spelling questions and five maths questions each was fun and then answering ten general knowledge questions as a team was even better. At the end of the quiz, Sorrento won the event and are now through to the grand final against Rosebud and Dromana Primary Schools. The final will be held tonight at 6.30 at Rosebud Primary School, so come along and watch; we’d love to see you there to support us.

Student Council The Student Council have decided once again to help the “Food For All” association by asking students to bring in long life food. These items will be sent to the hungry. Easy items like Baked Beans, tinned vegetables and pasta would be great. Each Friday the cans from all the classes will be counted and the winning class announced at assembly on the following Monday. Please bring in long life cans and packages to help the hungry! Jemma Tolson and Tom Burgess
In third place with 80 percent was 5/6G. In second place with 82 percent was 1/2S. In first place with 88 percent was 5/6R. 5/6R will have Leafy and eat popcorn this week. Congratulations to all our Waste Wise winners.
FATHERS’ DAY STALL
Thursday 29th August (students will go through as a class during the morning).
Gifts will be priced $1 - $5 and students are encouraged to bring a maximum of $5 to spend as well as a bag to take their gift(s) home.
Anyone interested in helping please let Mel know at the office.
Thanks Rachel Schlipalius

School Council School Council met recently in The Cove. Here are some of the issues that were discussed.
Uniform Policy- Uniform Working Policy met and has put together a survey about the uniform. This survey has been sent out and closed on Friday 23rd August.
Gonski - The announcement by the Victorian and Federal Governments to provide an additional $12.2 billion dollars to Victorian schools from next year to 2019 is historic. It allows for funding to grow at an average of 4 percent per student each year, and provides six years of funding certainty against which we can better plan.
Year Two Sleepover- School Council approved that the Year 2 Sleepover be held from Thursday 24th to Friday 25th October at Bayplay, Canterbury Jetty Rd, Blairgowrie.
The Student Engagement Policy was reviewed and updated. This can be found on the school website.
