GUEST CONDUCTORS Dr. Bradley P. Ethington Dr. Ethington is Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands at Syracuse University where he conducts the University Wind Ensemble and teaches undergraduate and graduate conduct-ing. He holds bachelors degrees in music education and biochemis-try from the Honors College at Michigan State University, the Master of Music from Baylor University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Texas at Austin where he studied with Jerry Junkin. Dr. Ethington has been guest conductor at con-ferences of the College Band Directors national Association, the New York State School Music Association and the National Opera Association. He has published articles in the Journal of the College Band Directors National Association and the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Journal, and currently serves on the editorial board of the WASBE Journal. He has also been a regu-lar contributor to the highly successful educational series Teaching Music Through Performance in Band, (GIA Publications). Dr. Ethington is Immediate Past President of the Big East Conference Band Directors Association, and has appeared as guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States, Western Europe and Australia.

Kevin Mixon Kevin Mixon is a National Board Certified Teacher, was an instrumental music teacher for several years at Franklin Elementary and Blodgett K-8 School, and is currently the Coordinator for Fine Arts for the Syracuse City School District. He is an adjunct profes-sor at Vander Cook College of Music and is in frequent demand as a conductor and clinician for festivals and conferences such as the International Society for Music Education Convention, The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Music Educators National Conference events, and state and regional music conferences. He is author of Reaching and Teaching All Instrumental Music Students and co-author of Teaching Music in the Urban Classroom (both MENC/Rowman & Littlefield Publications). Several of his articles have appeared in Music Educators Journal, Teaching Music, Educa-tion Week, The Instrumentalist, and The National Band Association Journal. Mr. Mixon is also an accomplished composer and arranger with several published works for band and orchestra available through Carl Fischer Music, Kendor Music, and Alfred Publishing.

Ronald Kurtz Ron Kurtz is a graduate of the Crane School of Music where he received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music Education. Upon graduation he taught for five years at Dundee Central School and has taught for the past twenty-seven years at Eagle Hill Middle School in the Fayetteville Manlius School District. Over the years he has been a guest conductor of all-county and select bands through-out New York State. His concert and jazz bands have been invited to perform at the New York State Band Directors Association annual conference and the Crane School of Music. For the past nine sum-mers he has been the director of the Summer Jazz Workshop, a weeklong jazz camp sponsored by the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation.

Rebecca Dodd Rebecca Dodd is from Eugene, OR. She started teaching private music lessons at age 16, and has taught in the public schools for 25 years, the last 21 in the Liverpool School District. She earned her Music Education degree from Wichita State Univer-sity and her master’s degree in reading from SUNY Oswego. Becky enjoys her unique situation of following her student’s lives and musi-cal development from fourth through eighth grade on the same cam-pus. This allows student collaboration between levels and the ability to get to know each student as an individual. She enjoys judging solo festivals, guest conducting and working with student teachers. She has been nominated for Teacher of the Year in Liverpool three times and has received the Optimist Teacher of the Month twice. She and her husband Kit have lived in Liverpool since 1981 and have two sons, Nicholas and Aaron.
