We’ve had great turnout for the scheduled midweek and weekend rides. Even though there have been a few foggy morning starts, the weather has not been a factor in the rides. If you’ve been thinking about it, NOW is the time to dust the Harley off and come ride with us. Bike Night at The Landing had a good turnout. JAXHOG won for most club members signing in. We had 29 sign ins. (There were more hands than that that was raised as to knowing how to get to the Landing) We’ll see you March 9. The HOG BUCKS Auction was a great event. A nice turnout. A huge Thanks to: Stephan & Manya for heading this up. There is/was a lot of work involved in getting this all together. (Purchasing the items, ordering the food, room setup, etc.) Missy and Adamec for donations of items to the auction Shelly and Motor Clothes for their assistance with the purchases Obie for writing the checks Barbara for tabulating the HOG Bucks bid Michelle for assisting with the food set up And to all the members who helped put the room back in the chapter meeting arrangement Stephan is heading up the March 11 ride to Rodehaver Boys Home/Classic Car Show. All three Chapters are riding separately to this event. Hope to have a large representation of JAXHOG. Rick is heading up the ride to Veterans Domicile on March 25. Check the weekly update for items that are needed. April 1 is The All-Female Ride coming to Adamec/Baymeadows. We won’t have a Chapter Meeting that date. We will need lots of volunteers to handle cooking and parking. Further details will be coming in the weekly update. Warmer weather means getting out and riding more, but it does bring the pollen. So, mask up and head out. Ride Safe and have Fun Hydrate, Lip Balm & Sunscreen Kirby Johnson Director

Hello HOG family!!

Happy March to you all. First I would like to thank everyone who came out to bike night at the Landing. Thanks to you all we won the $100. It was my first bike night in a while due to work, but was nice to see a great turnout and to see us win. We look forward to all bike nights and collecting the money to help support the club. We look forward to seeing all our affiliates that can come out and help. There are more clubs and sometimes its close, so we would like to see you all so we can continue winning. Second, while i have not been able to ride, it has been great to see great turnouts to the rides, and that the Road Captains do a great job at taking us to places we have never been or roads that some have never been on. Thank you all. We look forward to seeing great turnouts as the weather has been great and is that time of year for perfect weather. Lastly, some of our officers were able to go to HOT and learn even better practices and ideas to keep the club running smoothly and more importantly fun. We will look forward to implementing some of those ideas. If you have any suggestions you would like to see the club do, Please reach out to us and we can try and make them happen. Until next time, keep the rubber down and ride safe!!!

Ride Safe & Have Fun. And don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and use the sunscreen and lip balm.

Kirby Johnson Assistant Director

Thank goodness the weather has been great for riding, all the

better to get our minds off more depressing matters like tax

returns and failed weight loss programs. I and a few of your

fellow officers have just returned from a great weekend at

Harley Officer Training. The theme of HOT this year was “No

Boundaries”. Intentionally and unintentionally we often set

boundaries to what we are here for …Riding and having fun, but

we sometimes limit ourselves emotionally with the stress of

personal, work and financial obligations. Let’s leave those

boundaries aside when we get to the chapter meetings and

rides. We’re surrounded by friends, work is at another address,

all HOG meals are guilt free and financially the club is off to a

great start for the year.

Play the 50/50! this is solely for the purpose of supporting our

charities and all monies will go to those charities. Yet another

reason to feel good. Attend the bike nights! They are another

way we support our dealer and at the same time support our

club. Simply put, the more money we get from bike night, the

bigger the parties will be.

So No Worries, No Boundaries, Let’s Ride!

H.O.G. Member Spotlight

For most of America, February is a dreary, cold month filled with snow, counted by short days and long nights. We are so fortunate here in North Florida because other than the early darkness, February means mostly fantastic weather and great riding.

I remember February as a school kid for its celebrations – sharing Valentines with my classmates and two Presidential birthdays! Did you also read about young Abe splitting rails at New Salem and young George cutting down the cherry tree? Remember?

There’s another February event which was huge, at least for northern people. February 2, when a rodent comes out of his lair in Punxsutawney to predict the future. As an adult, I came to associate one song with this day – Sonny and Cher singing “I got you Babe”. Do you too? In Ground Hog Day, the weatherman Phil’s entire focus becomes creating the perfect day. And while his motivations may have initially been suspect, he ultimately made the day better for everyone around him too. So let’s be Phil - each of us has 28 days in the month to get it just right. In your efforts, you’ll make life better for everyone around you!

Almighty God, whose loving hand has given us all that we possess: Grant us grace that we may honor you, and, remembering the account which we must one day give, may be faithful stewards of your bounty. Amen.

Give thanks and ride safe!

This month’s spotlight celebrates one of our youngest members: Isabella Yaras. She has been a member since the age of 10, and volunteers for many of JAXHOG’s fundraisers. She recently volunteered for the Light the City Ride, and wrote a comprehensive paper about that experience and noted many of the charitable activities JAXHOG is involved in. Isabella’s enthusiasm and volunteer spirit are commendable and are an example to us all. In her paper, Isabella states, “I am very proud to be an Associate HOG and Ladies of Harley member and to be working with them this year and every other year. It is a lot of work but a lot of fun!” Thank you, Isabella, for all your work!! Lori Pinkerd Editor

HOG BUCKS 2016 auction was a huge success! A big thank to Adamec H-D for the room

and donations. Approximately 100 members and guests attended. Members spent over

44,500 HOG Bucks for more than 140 items! It was exciting to see a number of bidding

wars for various items including: mystery boxes, gift cards, jewelry, glass ware, and stools

to just name a few. In 2016, members earned over 67,000 HOG bucks and left 22,600

unused. Thanks to Kim Jensen, Wally Perez, Carol Ross, and Bill & Anette Deertz for their

donations. If any member attended and left empty handed, please see Manya or

Stephan. KUDOs to Manya for an awesome job!

LOH

The first LOH social of 2017 was a wonderful success – there was a great turn-out, including two of our newest members. It was a highly interactive and productive meeting – we covered charitable events that we would like to work on throughout the year and how we can help to give back to our community, we talked about upcoming LOH rides, and discussed our annual events - including the Easter Egg Hunt and Christmas Party. The next LOH social will be on March 15th – we are looking at the Mandarin area for the next meeting. Social hour will begin at 6:00. Dinner and meeting will be from 6:30 until 8:00. There will be door prizes. The goal of our monthly LOH meetings is to organize and participate in a variety of different functions such as local events, charities, and chapter rides. Potentially, we could even plan activities with other LOH groups! Ladies of Harley is a program sponsored by the Harley Owners Group to support women motorcycle enthusiasts - both riders and passengers! For those of you with significant others that would like to come, everyone is always welcome. Come and join the fun! The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 15th and we are in need of volunteers to help make this another exciting year for the kids. The sign-up sheet is available at the meetings. “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.” ― Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

There’s an awful lot riding on your motorcycle tires. Riding on good, properly filled tires make your ride experience much more enjoyable – you earn better gas mileage, the bike handles better overall and above all the bike and biker are SAFER! The great part is checking your tires can be accomplished with a couple of simple items – a tire pressure gauge and a penny. First, you can check the tread of your tire; this can be done a few ways. The obvious way is simply looking at the tire – yes, you may need to get down on the ground. You may think, “oh, there’s plenty of tread on that tire.” That’s where the penny comes in…Normally a tire is considered worn if the tread is less than 2/32”. Stick the penny, with Lincoln’s head touching the tire, in the tread – if his whole head is showing, it’s time for a new tire. If part of his head is covered up, you’re good to go. Abe will keep you honest! (see what I did there?) Since there isn’t a coin to check your air pressure, you’ll need to use the tire pressure gauge. Hopefully you were smart enough to take note of the recommended pressure on the side of the tire. Tires are one simple part of the TCLOCS pre-ride checklist; perform each time you get on your bike to ride. Until next month, ride safely and have fun! Hart Sutton, Head Road Captain

We are getting closer to the warm weather and some wonderful riding weather. We need all of you to join us on the outstanding rides that the Road captains are putting together for all of us. Now is the time to start making plans for the next overnight ride to Crystal River. This is going to be a great time as always. We have two new road captains coming on board pretty soon. Please take a minute to give them an uplifting word when you are on the rides they are working on.
