It is located in the southern region of United States, bordering Alabama to the north-west and Georgia to the north.

It was the 27th state admitted to the United States.

Much of the land mass is a large peninsula with the gulf of Mexico to the west, and the Atlantic ocean in the east.

Warm climate – subtropical in the northern and central regions , with a true tropical climate in the southern portion.

High temperature seldom exceed 38*C, avg. is 32*C in summer while 10*C in winter.

The seasons in Florida are determined more by precipitation than by temperature.

Central Florida is known as the lightning capital of the United States.

The most hurricane-prone US state, from 1851 to 2006, 114 hurricane has struck it.

Snow is a rare occurrence because no part of state is very distant from the ocean.

The second largest in the country after Yellowstone and the largest subtropical wilderness in the continental U.S.

It is a 1.5 million-acre tract of marshy land and swamp and an important and fragile ecosystem.

Home to thousands of plant species and a wide variety of animal and bird life. Examples include alligators, deer, sea turtle, egrets, manatees, and river otters.

Located on the Atlantic Coast, 23 miles north of Miami.

It is a predominantly residential resort city with a Venice-like series of canals and waterways.

Notable attractions are the International Swimming Hall of Fame and Butterfly World on Coconut Creek.

The second largest cruising port in the United States, there are daily departures of musical cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

A town in process of dynamic development, lies on the Gulf of Mexico at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River.

Abundant traces of human settlement going back 7000 years have been found in the surrounding area.

From Fort Myers the select Palm Alley (planted with royal palms from Cuba) runs down to the Gulf Coast, with the beautiful bathing resorts of Fort Myers Beach, Estero Island and the islands of Sanibel and Captiva.

The southernmost city in the continental United States, Key West features a unique mixture of cultural influences.

Key West is known for the sunsets that draw tourists from all over the U.S. and beyond.

It is 30km south of Orlando. In recent decades has grown from a quiet little farming town into a popular holiday resort.

Its principal tourist attractions are strung along the Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.

lies on the south-east side of the Florida peninsula, separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Biscayne Bay lagoon and Miami Beach.

It has more than 600 large and medium-sized hotels, numerous motels, several thousand restaurants and cafes and some 50 foreign consulates - reflecting the city's importance as a center for business and holiday travelers.

Miami is also home to two national parks, the Everglades and Biscayne.

A separate municipality located on a thin strip of island across the Biscayne Bay from the city of Miami.

The small beach settlement that grew up here developed within a few decades into the largest holiday, entertainment and bathing resort in the United States.

The town of Naples on the Gulf coast of south-western Florida was founded in 1877.

It is now a popular holiday resort with elegant shopping streets and a famous wooden pier.

Naples have a number of beautiful bathing beaches (Vanderbilt Beach, Wiggins Pass, Marco Island, etc.).

It is the chief place in one of the world's most visited tourist regions, which draws some 52 million visitors every year.

Among its principal tourist attractions are Walt Disney World, Sea World Orlando and Universal Orlando.

It is located in a bay on the south-western Gulf coast of Florida, founded in 1842.

Other sights are Belim's Cars and Music of Yesterday Museum, The Sarasota Jungle Gardens, The Mary Selby Botanical Gardens and the Mote Science Aquarium.

To the east is the Myakka River State Park, a still largely intact eco-system in which the original flora and fauna of the Sunshine State can be studied.

It is situated on the west coast of Florida, is the economic centre of western Florida.
