Moyo island became famous after a visit from the late Princess Diana, who sought refuge on this island from the paparazzi. Wakatobi, SulawesiWakatobi is an acronym of 4 main islands (Wangi-wangi Island, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Binongko) of an archipelago group known as Tukang Besi islands. Legendary underwater explorer and conservationist, Jacques Cousteau is said to have called the Wakatobi islands – then known as the Tukangbesi islands--an “Underwater Nirvana”Now a National Marine Park covering Waktobi District, it comprises a total of 1.4 million hectares, of which 900,000 hectares are decorated with different, colorful species of tropical flowers and plants. Komodo IslandKomodo Island is the home of the largest (and endangered) lizard on Earth, the Komodo Dragon.The park includes three major islands, Komodo, Rinca and Padar, and numerous smaller islands together totaling 603 square km. The total size of Komodo National Park is 1,817 sq.km. Proposed extensions of 25 sqkm of land (Banta Island) and 479 sqkm of marine waters would bring the total surface area up to 2,321 sqkm.At least 2500 Komodos live in this area. Large dragons are usually three meters long and weigh up to 90 kg. Raja AmpatRaja Ampat or ‘Four Kings’, is the name given to these islands and comes from a local myth. The four major islands found here are Waigeo, Misool (which is home to ancient rock paintings), Salawati, and Batanta.Underwater enthusiasts flock to this region because it offers the world’s best marine sights. Two days earlier, some of these travelers had been at a deafening corner of a tourist trap in Bali. Once they took their flight to the bird head of the island of Papua everything changed as they embarked on a diving tour of a lifetime. In the Raja Ampat islands, divers can explore vertical underwater walls. The thrill of drift diving is another great challenge.
