The Stretch Goals

Introduction

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K was my introduction to computing - at the tender age of 13,

Santa Claus brought me Sir Clive's latest machine for Christmas and I can honestly say it

was love at first sight.

When pocket money allowed, I adjourned my Speccy with gifts - mostly with the latest games

and sometimes even new hardware to extend the machines capabilities.

I read Newsfield's Crash magazine, a magazine that I craved each month to find out what

was going on in the world of Spectrum gaming and to see what awesome cover the

infamous Oli Frey had conjured up that month.

Those years with the Spectrum as my friend are ones I look back on with enormous

fondness and and to me was my golden era of computing.

The Ocean and U.S. Gold books

During November 2012 I started my first Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to produce a

book on 'The History of Ocean Software'. The Kickstarter was successful resulting in Roger

Kean and I embark on a 12-month journey to uncover and document the full history of this

seminal British gaming publishing and games development software house.

I have recently run a campaign to raise funds to create a book again with Roger Kean on the

company U.S. Gold - this book is now underway.

The book, 'The Story of the ZX Spectrum in Pixels', will be 200+ pages in length and

finished to the very same high standard adopted for 'The History of Ocean Software' and

'The Story of U.S. Gold' publications (the same printing company is going to be used).

The 'Sinclair' logo on the front cover will be embossed making the book a desirable

addition to any gaming fan or book collector.

The book will be predominantly a visual journey charting the best games on the ZX Spectrum

from1982 onwards until the early 90's.

Each spread will contain a large iconic image of the game and be accompanied by artwork

from the inlay, the game's advertisement where available and further game screens showing

the loading screen, menu etc.

We will also be talking to and interviewing 10-15 programmers, artists and musicians to get

their view on the Spectrum and how it helped launch their careers into gaming.

Interview with Mark Jones

And to cap it all off, we will be capturing new imagery of the Spectrum and of as much of the

Spectrum's peripherals as we can and putting it into the book.

With the close relationship I have with Roger Kean and Oliver Frey, the book will also contain

some great imagery from Crash magazine and Roger will be writing a forward for the book.

Postage

Postage within the UK will be free To Europe it will be an additional £6 and beyond our

European boundaries an extra £10.

Each book will be securely packaged in an 'Amazon' type mail box and sent to you first

class!

Timing

The book will be sent out at the end of January 2015 and updates will be given throughout

the development of the book through Kickstarter updates.

Risks and challenges

The aim is to release the book at the end of January 2015 - with the experience of producing

'The History of Ocean Software' book and the input and expertise of Roger Kean the task of

producing this book to time, quality and budget should not be an issue.

The task of creating 'The Story of the ZX Spectrum in Pixels' will be costly and time

consuming - the cost primarily represents the printing of such a high quality book. We aim to
