▪ Participation is limited to Utah students and teachers Grades 4-12. ▪ A teacher must direct the Stock Market Game™. ▪ Students cannot register on their own. ▪ Teacher must have internet access and provide an e-mail address. Teachers must register through the SMG website:

The Utah Division of Securities will waive the $5 team fee if participants follow the SMG Official Rules. A copy of the rules can be found in the Teacher Support Center. Teams must also make their first transaction by the end of the fifth week. Teams that do not place a trade by the end of the fifth week will be removed from the game.

The Stock Market Game™ (SMG) is a ten-week simulation of Wall Street trading that provides a framework for teaching Utah students about the American economic system. The SMG is designed for classroom use to help students understand the stock market, the costs and benefits involved in economic decision making, the sources and uses of capital, and other related economic concepts. HOW DOES IT WORK? For ten weeks, during the fall and spring school semesters, students invest a hypothetical $100,000 in common stocks on the New York and American Stock Exchanges and on the NASDAQ market. In a typical classroom setting, students form teams of 2-5 players and work interactively to research stock selections. At the end of the ten week simulation, the winning teams in each division are recognized with plaques, prizes and an awards ceremony.

#1) During the summer, 2 SMG Teacher Promo sessions will be available for teachers only to play the Stock Market Game and have access to the Teacher Support Center. The dates are: Jun 18-Aug 10, 2018 and July 30-Aug. 17, 2018. Register for these sessions at stockmarketgame.org. #2) A new, online SMG Teacher Orientation Course is available on CANVAS. The basic course takes approximately 2 hours. To receive an invitation to this course, contact Karen McMullin, [email protected].

#3) The annual SMG teacher training will be held on Aug. 7, 2018 from 9 am –4 pm at the Heber M. Wells Building, 160 E. 300 S., Salt Lake City, Utah. The training is free, and lunch is provided but space is limited. Register by contacting Karen McMullin, SMG Coordinator, via email at [email protected].

This day long training will provide an introduction and overview for teachers who want to implement the program into their classroom curriculum. Instruction will include an overview of how the stock market works, an explanation of the teacher support center and the process for registering teams, and strategies to play the game successfully in the classroom. Professional Development credit is available through USBE’s MIDAS-Course #41227, Section 2.
