Sue’s Letter

The summer months are filled with the warm love of Divine Mother as she gazes upon all that has been created and has taken full form, as life moves forward. Sometimes it’s difficult to think that life is continually unfolding in a positive manner when we witness a movement that is 10

steps forward and then 5 steps backward. In this new age we knew this would be a difficult birth, but it is necessary as painful as it is to witness. We discover the wisdom within White Eagle’s teaching, that we become great beams of light; we become the six-pointed star. There we realize a very important purpose. We are co-creating with God. OUR light allows for this. All is well through challenging times that we experience not only within our personal lives but on a global scale too. In life, we need to seek the balance that will bring us the spiritual qualities such as, truth, compassion and love – our brotherhood consciousness. As we become this balance we allow these qualities to

shine through. We enfold all life: nature, our fellow human beings and ourselves. In our daily devotion through prayer, meditation and healing thoughts, we send out the light at the magical hours of 3, 6, 9, and 12 to gently bring harmo-ny and equanimity to our world. In this way, we serve.

In this issue, you will see an explanation concerning the Canadian White Eagle website. Our website is now within the America’s website. Our website domain name is the same: www.whiteagle.ca.

You will find articles of our 25th celebrations that took place at the end of June. There were presentations given by Jane, Mother for the Americas, Lesley from Alberta and Janice from our Binbrook group. We have also included a history of the White Eagle Lodge in Canada.

As our summer comes to a close, we start thinking of autumn and the shift of colours within our country. As October takes us into November, we are led to thoughts of Remembrance Day and how important it is to pay homage to the brave soldiers who

fought for a better world. “And they who for their country die shall fill

an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier's tomb, and beauty weeps the brave." Joseph Drake

With Love to you all,

Sue Leader, Star Centre for Canada

THE STORY OF HIAWATHA

This past October, my husband, John, and myself

attended the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Temple of the Golden Rose in Texas. We were asked to give a presentation regarding the White Eagle work in Canada. John, focused on the present day work in Canada. For my-self, I knew what I was going to present. Many years ago, while reading the book, The Illumined Ones, I was aston-ished to discover within the introduction, that there was a reference to Brantford, Ontario. Brantford is only a half hour drive from Binbrook, which is the location of the Star Centre for Canada.

This reserve, in Brantford, is the largest First Nations reserve in Canada. It is the only reserve in North America that has all six Iroquois nations living together. These nations are; the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondagan, Cayuga, and Seneca. The sixth nation, Tuscarora, joined in 1722. The reserve was formed in 1784. Minesta, Grace Cooke, believed that White Eagle had his last incarnation on earth as a Mohawk Chief and the leader of the Six

(Formerly Five) Nations of the Iroquois. His name was Hiawatha.

These Five Nations formed the

Haudenosaunee Confederacy; also known

as the Iroquois

Confederacy.

The ancient meaning of the word,

Haudenosaunee is, “people of the long-

house”. A longhouse is a structure that

was built from logs and bark and can ac-

commodate up to 20 families, each with

their own space. We have a Conservation

area that’s not too far away from the Star Centre, that has recreated

an Iroquoian village complete with three longhouses. This Confed-

eracy was founded as a cooperative and peace-keeping organization

among the Five Nations. As with our White Eagle organization, the

Confederacy was a matriarchal society.

It is said from time immemorial the Confederacy was created. It has been recognized as one of the first and longest lasting democracies in the world. The Iroquoian Confederacy’s origins are linked to the legend of the White Roots of Peace. More can be read in the book by the same name, authored by Paul A.W. Wallace. There was a prophet named, The Great Peacemaker; also known as, Deganiwidah. He was born in the province of Ontario. It was the Creator that sent Deganiwidah to spread “the great white carpet of peace and brotherhood” among the Nations. This was the only democracy with a direct link to the Creator.

From, The Illumined Ones, Minesta relates how she was introduced to a book called, The Patriot Chiefs by Alvin M. Josephy, JR. It is an example of how spirit works in our daily lives. “At the close of a Sunday service at the White Eagle Lodge in London, a stranger came up to me saying, ‘You must obtain the book on the patriot chiefs’”. Minesta purchased the book and the very first chapter is, “The Real Hiawatha”. This convinced her that Hiawatha did exist and read of his involvement with the League of the Five Nations. This union “has subsisted ages and appears indissoluble”. In the forming of a union for the dozen or so English colonists in 1754, Benjamin Franklin turns to the Iroquois Confederacy as a model. He says that “the Iroquois people still faithfully maintain their way of government at their present-day ‘capital’ near Brantford, Ontar-io”.

In the ‘Illumined Ones’, Minesta attended the play, Hiawatha,

which took place at the Albert Hall between the years of 1924- -

1939. During an interval, she asked to meet with Chief Oskenonton

who played the medicine man. Minesta says, “. . . almost at once he was shaking me by the hand as if I was a long-lost relative, and exclaiming, “But you are one of my people!” She went on to tell him of her Indian guide, White Eagle, and how she was moved to meet him. Chief Oskenonton was born in 1886 of the Mohawk Nation, residing in the Six Nations Reserve. Minesta felt this supported her

belief that she was with White Eagle during his incarnation as Hiawatha.

The story of Hiawatha is another page of our spiritual inheritance. This is a remembrance for us. We do not have to live in this area to imagine such a lifetime. By reading, The Illumined Ones, we can follow the links of brotherhood and peace that were demonstrated in such lifetimes. This leads us to the purpose and the essence of our Lodge and how we can bring that forward into our own groups. It is the work “behind the scenes” of everyday life that allows us to practice the Great Law of life that is shown in the story of Hiawatha.

As Minesta says, “To me this is a remarkable story, (Hiawatha) and it shows the continuation of the work of the White Brotherhood beyond the veil to spread “the great white carpet of peace and brotherhood” over the world”. (The Illumined Ones p.6)

WORKING WITH ANGELS

From the great archangel at the head of

each ray, down to the most insignificant nature spirit, the universe is seething with invisible life. Within such a cloud of unseen witnesses you live and have your being!

You hear of angels visiting the seers and prophets of old, but you do not always realize that angels are always working among the human family. At the present time the vibration of the angelic life forces is what humanity needs to restore correct balance. We should seek the inspiration of the angels of light and ask that they work with us; the individual can do so much to help the angelic ones in their work of raising the vibrations of earth.

Page 7: THE STAR CENTRE FOR CANADA - The White Eagle Lodge · Many years ago, while reading the book, The Illumined Ones, I was aston- ... The Great Peacemaker; also known as, Deganiwidah

When a human being sits devotedly in meditation and contemplation and opens his or her heart to the inflow of divine Love, that being will be so raised in consciousness as to behold the angels of God. The lowly soul will reach that state of ecstasy and glory in which he or she will be in company with angels. Here is the true spiritual gift. Here is the true goal, my friends, and it is far more than the development of any sixth sense or psychic power.

You know how, through the expansion of your consciousness, you have gained help. You may do much more than this; you may fight within yourself to retain supremacy over the animal instincts and the darkness and depression of the earth life. . . . More than this you may carry a positive knowledge – positive thought and positive action – as you journey through life, and thus train your spiritual hearing to catch the words of power and truth broadcast from the heights.

You will get there: you will get to the joy and the happiness of that glorious realization of the beauty of the natural world. You will discover, beyond all the conflict and darkness of earth, a wise purpose working through the chaos and taking you into a world of brotherhood and peace. Be ready for a golden world and a golden age. Keep this ideal before you and it will help you.

You are ringed about with angelic brethren. Put your hand into the hand of the angel by your side. If you raise your consciousness above the fears and turmoil of the earth, it is like ascending from a fog into a layer of peace and beauty. It is like quitting a wilderness grown barren and ugly and stunted, and following a path into a garden fragrant with flowers and the song of birds and running water – beautified by sunlight and by the colour of flowers and trees.

You become attuned to the creative spheres as you begin to become aware of what is taking place inside you, as you live with your eyes open. You see always beauty and never destruction; you begin to see with the eyes of your spirit and the beauty in nature and within all the elements. And as you perhaps start to follow your soul’s urge towards some creative art, angels from those creative spheres are drawn to you; they watch your work and inspire and guide you.

The angels, the messengers of God, are waiting to guide you toward the temple of wisdom and instruction, and if you go with them you will absorb all this wisdom into your higher mind. In time it will percolate through into your everyday, ordinary mind. But you will have to train yourself. If you take one or two falls, and feel disappointed, never mind. The first step is to listen to the little voice within. Through this you will develop such a pure ‘sounding board’ within that you will hear the angels sing. . . .

THE MOON AND THE SEVEN RAYS - PART 1

The seven life-streams or rays of the cosmic sun are so subtle and far-reaching that it is impossible to comprehend them with the earthly mind alone. The mortal consciousness tends to think in terms of seven blocks of colour, probably rather less subtly blended than the colours of the rainbow. Endless thinking and reasoning along these lines, trying to link the colours with their particular planets, numbers and sounds, often leads to greater confusion, as so many authorities differ. To comprehend the rays at all we need to withdraw into the inner world in mediation and worship, striving to become one with the heart of the sun. As we meditate in that light, gradually, according to our own particular ray of unfoldment, the truth will slowly open up for us. We shall begin to realize how each of the seven rays has its own quality, its own vibra-tion, which permeates all life.

Contemplating the radiant six-pointed star which symbolises the developing Christ-consciousness, we begin to understand how each ray in turn can become the living centre of that star. For each ray is a facet of the jewel, the flashing diamond at the heart of the star. As this jewel slowly revolves, each facet in turn catches the light so that its own particular colour subtly pervades the whole star and all the other colours are muted, toned down as they merge into the central beam. Or perhaps we should think in terms of a vast kaleidoscope slowly revolving. The central point, the creator of the patterns, is the sun – not only the sun of our universe but the great cosmic sun of all life, symbolised by the Pole Star around which the heavenly constellations turn. The reflected pat-terns with their ever-changing forms are like the moon, the soul life of the cosmos – the great ocean of thought and feeling, which is forever changing but always reflecting the light of the central sun. Without the reflector, we should see no light, no pattern.

The Moon in the individual horoscope represents the personality of one short incarnation through which the ray of the greater self shines and through which practical physical experiences can be gained. Yet this small personality, this limited expression of one incarnation, by no means manifests the complete power of the lunar ray. For the moon in the heavens symbolizes the great Mother of all form. She is the principle both of constancy and of change. Month by month she completes her cycle. Starting from the new moon, the point of conjunction with the sun when she is invisible from the earth, the moon gradually waxes until she is resplendent in the heavens and fully re-flects the glory of her lord the sun. We all respond to the magic and the mystery of the full moon, when she is in opposition to the sun. This is a period of special occult power which has an effect throughout the na-ture kingdom. The moon’s power over the great tides of etheric life within the world soul is as strong as on the ocean tides in the physical world. Then again she wanes, steadily losing light and strength until once more she appears to withdraw into complete darkness. Thirteen times a year the moon waxes and wanes, while the earth makes but one revolution round the sun.

Continued on pg 6

For the moon in the heavens symbolizes the great Mother of all form.

She is the principle both of constancy and of change.

10

This constant change, this death and rebirth of the moon each month beautifully symbolises the relationship of the personalities of different incarnations to the greater self signified by the sun in the horoscope. Yet we must not think of the lunar ray as in any respect inferior to that of the sun, for without the power of the great Mother, the spirit – the Son, the Christ – could not come into manifestation. While the sun is positive, the light which shines and the word which creates, the moon is the nega-tive or passive aspect which absorbs the light and builds it into form. In one sense, as the sun works through the positive signs to bring through the Christ-consciousness, so the moon works through the negative signs to produce the form in which that consciousness can shine; and the growing Christ-consciousness needs form that is ever-nearer the perfect through which to manifest. Hence the need for the destruction as well as the creation of fresh vehicles for the incoming life, which is an inte-gral part of the feminine side of life throughout creation. It is a rhythm which manifests ultimately in the vast cosmic cycles of life, the in-breathing and out-breathing of the Great Spirit.

The Moon, the sign of Cancer, and the fourth house of the horoscope are all concerned with the mother: the home, the sanctuary, the place of peace and personal privacy, the cradle, the nursery, and also the latter part of life, the period of retirement, and the end of life. The mother creates the envi-ronment for the child; she creates the home which is the basis, the foundation of human life.

Solar ray people are instinctively positive, forceful and creative on the plane of thought, whereas those on the lunar ray are more concerned with giving form to thought; bringing it into practical expression. They are the executives, the tiers-up of loose ends, the comforters, the sustain-ers and the creators of harmony.

Page 11: THE STAR CENTRE FOR CANADA - The White Eagle Lodge · Many years ago, while reading the book, The Illumined Ones, I was aston- ... The Great Peacemaker; also known as, Deganiwidah

11

The Moon, Cancer, and the fourth house all indicate a receptive, sympathetic, emotional nature. The Moon is the queen of the element Water, which rules the psyche or the soul. Any personality that we love is the earthly expression of the greater self, and like the Moon reflects that inner spirit which is so attuned to ours. The essential personality of those unfolding on the lunar ray is gentle, quiet, and very receptive. These people know things without having to be told, for almost unconsciously they identify themselves with the other person and feel what they are feeling. A mother instinctively feels with her child. She feels the hurts, the disappointments, and also the triumphs, of her child and knows how to give comfort, encouragement of admonition. A wise mother who not only gives sympathy, but knows how to prepare her child for independence, and to stand in the background as a friend when the child no longer needs protection, wields great power. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

Now that humanity is in the transition period between the negative sign Pisces and the positive, mental, Aquarius, many women responding to this positive, mental ray are finding the responsibilities of home-making and child-rearing rather irksome. So there is a tendency towards a disintegration of the old family pattern where the woman was the centre of the home. Women of spiritual understanding could take the lead here, and help their sisters to realise the vital importance of a secure and lov-ing home life for the young souls coming into incarnation. Many souls now being born are real children of the Aquarian Age, highly sensitive and responsive to the spirit of the New Age. Since Aquarius is a positive air sign which brings stimulation to the mind, those who are working on the lunar ray at this period have a vital part to play in helping humanity to hold the balance.

The true work of souls evolving along this lunar ray, which is in essence the second ray, is to bring to life the quality of the divine parent. We say ‘parent’ because it matters not whether a soul is functioning in a male or female body during any one incarnation. If they are evolving along this lunar ray, no matter whether they are man or woman, they will feel deep within them a great love of life itself. They will feel the urge to care for and nurture all living things, but especially the young and helpless, in body or soul.

FOR THE FALLEN

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,

England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,

Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.

There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,

Straight of limb, true of eye, steady & aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds

uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England’s foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

Since becoming leader in 2013, it was understood between Kim and I that we would create a new Canadian website. Kim then began designing a brand-new website with a new web host. While doing this, Kim kept searching and comparing other hosts that would increase our savings further. This year Kim suggested the idea of piggy-backing onto the Americas site. This decision of Kim’s was based on the fact she will be moving from our local area and will no longer be with the Lodge. The only other tech person that could oversee the Canadian site was Marcia Lynn in Texas, (as Marcia has retired, Morelle will be helping us) as there is no one else in Canada that could take Kim’s place. In turn, this led Kim to work with Kate Wardman, web designer for the other Lodges.

From 2013, Helen & I were working alongside Kim. We started making changes to the existing site which in turn led to creating new pages. We started pouring through the New Lands and Americas sites for inspiration, all the while, approving Kim’s ideas. Kim’s home as well as numerous ‘Coffee Culture’ locations were our designated meeting places. I have 3 folders of Kim’s work from 2013 on. She was always determined to see the birth of our new Canadian site; a birth that took 5 years of ambitious labour! I’m sure that it is not a coincidence that our new site was launched during the 25th anniversary of the White Eagle work in Canada.

With deep gratitude to you, Kim, thank you.

CELEBRATING THE 25th ANNIVERSARY OF THE

WHITE EAGLE LODGE IN CANADA

On the weekend of June 23-25, we took part in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the White Eagle Lodge in Canada. Plans began a year ago to ensure that nothing was missed. Jane, Mother for the Americas joined us (left), as well as Lesley from Alberta (right), Daphne, Ellany and all our local family.

On the 23rd, Jane held an all-day mini-retreat. The topics she spoke about were from her Spiritual Science retreats. We learned in further detail about the Lost Continents of Mu, Lemuria and Atlantis. With the birth of Hyperboria, God-Men came to the earth with their ideal of brotherhood. Humanity was then born throughout the planet. Jane talked about her trip to Iona where the sacred light still burns within its soil. In the afternoon, Jane talked about the soul. In our world today, the feminine energy is restoring balance. Individually and as nations, we are one family.

On the 24th, we held our Sunday service. This was followed by our potluck luncheon. Pat Harrison, our retired leader of Canada, provided the 25th anniversary cake as our dessert. In the afternoon, Lesley spoke of her late husband, Herb Belcourt, who was Métis. The Métis people were descendants of mixed First Nations and white European families. Herb was instrumental in providing resources for the Métis people in Alberta. He established a housing project for the Métis and then went on to providing financial assistance for post-secondary education. Lesley worked in the background with Herb, helping to write speeches and opening prayers that were requested. Herb’s book, “Walking in the Woods”, is now in its second printing with a new introduction.

Janice Gumbley, who does the layout for the Drumbeat Magazine, talked about a new craft she has discovered called, Thunder Gourds. This consists of a hollowed-out shell of a gourd. A spring is attached on the inside and when it is shaken, it sounds like thunder. The gourd is then painted which makes it look very attractive. Hopefully Janice will give us a class so that we may make our own.

On Monday, we had our sight-seeing day. We took Jane & Lesley to the

Six Nations Reserve where we visited a craft and gift shop. In the

afternoon, we went to Crawford Lake Conservation Area where there is a reconstructed Iroquoian village.

I would personally like to thank everyone who took part in our celebra-tions. From the delicious food to those who offered to drive people. There were tables to set, dishes to be washed, a lot of tidying up and rec-ipes and photos to be shared.

Happy Anniversary to all.

THE HISTORY OF THE WHITE EAGLE LODGE IN CANADA

The White Eagle work in Canada was officially started in 1993 by Pat Harrison. She became the leader for the work in Canada at her home in Stoney Creek, Ontario. This group was known as, the Ontario Daughter Lodge. Pat laid the foundation and contributed immensely. Nancie Patterson, Daphne and Katie Boxall from Toronto, and Helen and Bob Millar from Stoney Creek were there from the beginning to help and support Pat. There were Sunday services and study groups led within her sanctuary as well as many potluck luncheons. Pat created the Drumbeat Magazine and our Canadian website. Pat led the work for 20 years and retired in 2013.

In 2013, the Ontario Daughter Lodge became the Star Centre for Canada. At this time, Sue Lawrence became the new leader for the work in Canada. This group now meets in Binbrook, Ontario.

The British Columbia Daughter Lodge, led by Ann Force, officially came into existence in 1999. Ann has served for over 19 years. In 1992, Ann along with her co-leader, Clive Steyning, started the first White Eagle group in B.C. This initial group celebrated their 25th anniversary last year. Anne Doubleday and Frank Stepney became the second two members of Ann and Clive’s group. Anne Doubleday’s husband, Harry, and their daughter, Janet, became members later. Being such a vast

country, Ann’s group was a very important link for the Canadian work. They are a very dedicated group and continue to meet in Langley, B.C.

Lesley Tarrant Belcourt lives in Sherwood Park, Alberta and she is the White Eagle contact person for Alberta. She has been part of the lodge for many years. She first attended the lodge in London, England with Fred & Hamida Bote-Kwame. Lesley writes for Cana-da’s “Drumbeat” magazine.

Daphne Davey is our White Eagle contact for Eastern Canada. She lives in Crapaud, Prince Edward Island. Daphne worked as a lone healer for many years. She does the Earth healing and Animal healing services. Daphne is the only White Eagle member in the Eastern part of Canada. The Star Centre for Canada is the nearest group to her and we include her as part of our group. Daphne says, “But on a different level, of course, I am anything but alone and that’s all that matters”.

Our website at www.whiteagle.ca, includes our Drumbeat Magazine as well as our Canadian features which include membership, donations and book/CD orders. There is a list of contacts for the Star Centre for Canada, the B.C. Lodge and our contact for Alberta. Sue Lawrence

THE GENTLE BROTHER

There are times to work, times to rest. It is

good to know how and when to relax, and to discriminate between on the one hand ease and relaxation, and on the other a collapse of courage and hope. People can and do go to pieces; they lose their poise and say many things they do not mean. While you must be easy and relax, your spirit must always be in command. Do not let it be driven out by fear or prostration, for this means the captain of the ship has gone.

Make this pledge with your higher self, ‘I will remain the captain of my ship’; for to do this is to follow the true path of spiritual development.

Meditate often on the presence of your Master.

You cannot even think of that radiant personality without some change talking place in your soul-body. When you meditate on Him your whole being participates in his radiance.

Those who would bring peace into the lives of others, who would soothe the troubled breast or with a word of wisdom ‘cast out devils’, must first learn to control their own being.

Jesus knew that he could not command the forces of the unseen until he had complete command of the forces within himself. And those who would penetrate the mysteries of the universe, and understand the complexities of human relationship, rather to seek and put this and that person right, must first look within, they must set their own house to order.”

MANTRA

There is nothing that mankind cannot accomplish if they

sincerely set their minds and hearts to the task . . .

There is no mountain too high to make reaching the summit

impossible; no illness that cannot be conquered

nor any happiness denied permanently to the reaching soul . . .

All love shall be engendered to fill the heart and spirit.

Lasting peace of mind shall enter to still the lingering doubts and fears.

There can be no such thing as failure so long as the intention is set toward accomplishment.

Each step backwards shall be accompanied immediately by

three steps forward. Each sense of failure shall be overcome by renewed

striving for success.

All noise shall be stilled. All speech shall cease.

All listening to the silence will fill the heart with new wisdom, and all suffering

shall be rewarded by a growing sense of happiness and fulfillment.

All shall be well. As it is now – and shall always be.

All is indeed well! God loves you

Amen Amen Amen 21 Nancie Patterson

SUMMER GREETINGS FROM BEAUTIFUL BRITISH COLUMBIA

Well here we are already approaching the middle of the year. As we leave the Wesak moon behind we approach the Christ Festival and the wonderful energy of summer. “This is the time when the Christ the great Solar being comes into the heavens in the form of the Perfect Man the Perfect Son, and from the immense circle or aura of blazing gold innumerable rays of God-sunlight fall upon the earth. This great baptism remember takes place at the full moon in June”.

Along with these great festivals on the earth plane we also celebrate the birthday of Minesta, Grace Cooke, the founder of our lodge and we must give thanks for the wonderful work and dedication of this amaz-ing woman who gave over forty years of her life to bring us the won-derful teachings of White Eagle. As we read or hear these teachings from White Eagle we can tend to forget the remarkable commitment of the physical instrument necessary for all this to happen. Together with Brother Faithful they made so much light possible and it is ongoing into the future.

In June we must give thanks to our founder of the White Eagle work in the America’s, Jean LeFevre, who together with her husband, John, gave so many years of their life to lay the foundation for the work in this continent. We in B.C. especially thank Jean as it was her training from the very beginning along with Brother Lawrence, who guided a few of us who knew absolutely nothing, to founding a group which has become a Daughter Lodge. We are privileged to have known Jean and been able to spend time with her both here and in Texas over the last twenty-five years. It is with great love and gratitude that we celebrate both of these birthdays in June.

Here in the B.C. lodge things are back on track after a very challenging start to the year. I am happy to say that we are once again healthy, and the lodge work is continuing in the new sanctuary in Langley. We must give many thanks to Anne and Harry Doubleday who despite a gruelling beginning to the year are once again making their home available for us to do the White Eagle work. We must never take these

23

things for granted, we are all dedicated to this work and we all have our little sanctuaries in our homes but coming together in the group draws the energy together and helps us to focus and send out the light in great-er strength. I am happy to make my home available on the fourth Sun-day of the month for a beginners group should anyone like to come and learn the basic introductory teaching. We would welcome any enquiries - the contact information is on the back of the Drumbeat and on the website. We will close for the month of August for the summer break. We wish everyone a very happy, safe and peaceful summer.

In White Eagles words; ”Beloved, let us welcome with great love and reverence the presence in form of the master of Light. With simple minds and open hearts, let us absorb from his Aura the love which He holds for all humanity, and as His love permeates our being, let us be refreshed in body, soul and spirit. Being thus recharged let us open the inner vision to behold the beauties of the spiritual life, and of the higher worlds in which we live and move and have our being. In these higher worlds let us meet those whom we know are our beloved teachers, many of them companions of our former lives, many to be companions in fu-ture lives. And as we become absorbed in this grand Brotherhood, let us say with heart and soul, Father God we Thy children would thank Thee for our creation and all the blessings of mortal and spiritual life.” Amen

In the Garden

Over the summer we have all had a chance to enjoy

the outdoors, nature and of course the flowers. I find

the names of some of names

are rather interesting, pretty

such as love-in-the-mist (top right) and down

right dreadful such as bloodroot. Bloodroot is

such a beautiful spring flower which looks like a

pure white multi petalled water lily. (left)

One of my favourite flowers, pictured on the right, is actually a small

wildflower which goes by several names. When

asked I called it “Herb Robert”. It is also

known as Red Robin, Death come quickly,

Storks bill, Dove's Foot, Stinking Bob, Squinter-

pip (Shropshire, England), Crow's Foot, or (in

North America) Robert Geranium. What ghastly

names! Now you know why I call it Herb Robert.

It grows as an annual or biennial plant, up to fifty centimeters high,

producing small, pink, five-pedaled flowers (8-14 mm in diameter) from

April until the autumn. The leaves are deeply dissected, almost fern-like,

and the stems often reddish; the leaves also turn red at the end of the

flowering season. The plant has little root structure which seem to be

almost on the surface of the earth so care needs to be taken when gar-

dening, but they do seem to recover well if they are accidently disturbed

or transplanted.

Its main area of distribution is Europe from the north Mediterranean

coast to the Baltic and from the British Isles in the west to the Caucasus

in the east. It has been introduced into many other temperate parts of

the world, probably through its use as an ornamental plant. Geranium

robertianum is common throughout Great Britain and Ireland in

woodland and hedgerows.

In traditional herbalism, Herb Robert was used as a remedy for tooth-

ache and nosebleeds and in healing wounds. The name has been ex-plained as a reference to abbot and herbalist Robert of Molesme.

Moroccan Vegetable Harira (Soup)

This hearty soup is an excellent way to work in all the

fresh local vegetables which are available in the fall.

As well as a great meal on cooler days.

2 onions diced

1 Tbls fresh minced ginger

½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp turmeric

28 oz can of dried plum

tomatoes

10 C water

Yogurt for garnish – optional

2. Add ginger, cinnamon & turmeric.

3. Stir in tomatoes, water, lentils & rice. Stir occasionally until rice

& lentils are tender.

4. Add chick peas, cilantro & parsley. Simmer another 5 min.

(Optional – other vegetables such as peppers, carrots, zucchini,

etc. could be used. Try chopped spinach instead of cilantro.)

5. Add salt & pepper to taste before adding the lemon juice.

Makes 10 – 12 servings

1 C green lentils

½ C brown rice

19 oz can of chick peas,

undrained

½ C chopped cilantro

¼ C chopped parsley

Salt & pepper to taste

¼C fresh lemon juice

Freshly picked leaves have an odor resembling burning tires when crushed, and if they are rubbed on the body the smell is said to repel

mosquitoes. The active ingredients are tannins, a bitter compound called geraniin, and essential oils. It was carried to attract good luck, and due to its analogical association with storks, to enhance fertility.

Since the mosquitoes were extremely bad this summer at my place I did

try it as an insect repellant a couple of times & it seemed to work. Submitted by Janice Gumbley
