A Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America

Our thanks to Claude Sipe’s for volunteering to chair the 2016 Apple Hill Meet. His act lifts a

“heavy weight”, at least slightly from our clubs shoulders. We now have to plan and execute

the meet. Remember, the Apple Hill meet is our clubs main source of operating funds. I un-

derstand that most, if not all, committee chairs have been filled. We still need your support

through volunteering to “man” the various activities that we will offer. It is by our combined

support and work that the “Apple Hill Meet” will continue to attract other clubs and their

members to visit and enjoy our hospitality and activities. Please ask Claude how you can help.

Claude and Connie took us on a “mystery” breakfast tour. At the “Black Creek Ranch”, we

enjoyed ‘fresh’ from the ‘griddle’ pancakes ala Claude, and scrambled eggs and ham ala Con-

There was a discussion concerning the California Car Museum and the club paying our dues to them. Some members are having a problem when they go to the museum and they say we are not on their list. It will be looked into because our dues were paid in August 2014. Sparton Editor Hymie Brandstetter needs to get the roster information so that the new ros-ters may be put together and given to the members. New Business: Howdy Waldrond will take care of auditing the books. Carol Mueller gave out certificates for one year memberships to MAFCA to new members that had not belonged to MAFCA before. nie, along with fresh fruit and more. Along with tours of the “ranch house” and tours of the

ranch’s back country we enjoyed good conversation with those members who came along.

Thank you Claude and Connie for an enjoyable day.

How about some events for the ladies of our club? Activities like showing how to put to-

gether a Model A period outfit, make period jewelry, or just enjoy an era tea or just go to

lunch. Come on ladies, put your creative minds to work

Your President,

Bill Lincoln

Claude and Connie love to

make friends happy and

make sure they are having a

good time. Saturday’s

“Surprise Breakfast” was in-

deed that.

13 vintage cars plus a few moderns gathered at Walmart. Ken led half the group in one direc-

tion. Augie led the others in a different direction. We all arrived in Pilot Hill at the lake on

the Ranch (belonging to Amy Archer Fournier who told Claude

“yes, bring everyone…we love a party”!). Claude and Connie had

the coffee perked, the flapjacks on the griddle and a combo of

scrambled eggs with diced ham sizzling in the skillet.

The sun was shining. The slight delta breeze and Easy Up cano-

pies kept the heat at bay. It was a beautiful day.

After our fill of a breakfast feast, some folks who were making

their first visit to the Ranch (and we hope more will in the fu-

ture) toured the Lodge. Then the offer went out to jump on the

“Mules” to sight-see some of the terrain. Not 4 legged mules but

4 wheel drive Kawasaki models! There were lots of takers and

they all had fun. Shirley made

the comment “Nat, this is like

going on a safari!” as we covered forests and meadows and

lakes.

Rudy and Kevin and Paul warmed up pitching some horse-

shoes. And a few of the group toured Augie’s restoration of

the Caretakers House. Everybody was on the move and hav-

ing a good visit.

What a day! Thanks Claude and Connie (and Amy)! Nat

On June 21, 31 members of the Hangtown A’s met in Coloma for our tour to Butte County. Because of the large number of As participating in the trip we divided into two groups for the back roads ride to McBean Park in Lincoln and then to the visi-tors center at the Oroville Dam for lunch. After having lunch and visiting the museum individuals went their own way to visit antique stores, the Tool Museum, the Chinese Museum, and other attractions in Oroville. Friday evening we gathered in the “breakfast room” for happy hour. If you measure talking and laughing in decibels I’m sure that the sound would be equal to a rock concert. Dinner was “on your own”, but we all seemed to choose the same restaurant. After dinner, some of us found a fiddle/string competition event that provided more entertainment. On Saturday morning we drove on beautiful back roads to Table Mountain. Unfortunately, the wild flower show was diminished due to the lack of rain. Those of us that

took the long walk did see more flowers and small waterfalls. After Table Mountain many of the Hangtown members went to Chico to visit the Bidwell Mansion, glass factories, antique stores and to have lunch at Sierra Nevada Brewing or other restaurants.

Some of us returned to Oroville to visit the gardens at the Lott House. We again gathered for Happy Hour and to share our day’s adventures. Sunday we went to the Nature Center area and took a walk along the Feather River and then headed for home. The A’s all ran beauti-fully and we had fun. Join us next time. Jeanette
