The

South Run Letter FAIRFAX STATION, VIRGINIA 22039

Inside This Issue:

As we begin 2015, the South Run

Board of Trustees (BOT) hopes

everyone in our community had a

wonderful holiday season and a

happy and safe new year.

The BOT held its regular meeting

on Dec. 10 at Sangster Elementary

School. Several community mem-

bers were present to express con-

cerns over the possible privatiza-

tion of the Burke

Lake dr i v i ng

range.

The issue relates

to turning the

current driving

range into a facili-

ty similar to that

of Top Golf in

Alexandria. The

concerns are

about the possibility of added traffic

on Ox Road, increased noise levels

late into the evenings, and the po-

tential of drunk drivers.

Because our closest property is

more than one mile away from the

driving range, the BOT’s influence

in this matter is extremely limited.

If this is a situation that worries

you, our best suggestion is that you

contact Supervisor Herrity’s office

with your concerns and that you

appear at the public hearing they

Rec Committee

Corner must have to proceed. The BOT

will post the hearing date as

soon as it becomes available.

As a followup to the concerns

about the recent robberies in

and around the South Run com-

munity, the BOT received a

quote for placing cameras at the

entrances to our community.

This option is not financially

possible. It would cost South

Run Regency

approximately

$100,000 to put

these cameras

in place, with

no one to mon-

itor them. Oth-

er communities

that have tried

this approach

have removed

the cameras within six months.

Trustee Sean O’Brien is inves-

tigating reconstituting the

Neighborhood Watch program.

This effort would require com-

munity volunteers to help walk

the streets and report suspi-

cious activity to the police.

Please stay tuned for additional

information regarding Neighbor-

hood Watch.

“We look forward

to working together

with everyone to

keep our

community the

special place that it

has become.”

We’re looking for a

few good women and

men to join the

Recreation Committee!

If you’re interested, please

contact Cindy Franz at (703)

250-5674 or FranzFamily

[email protected].

Our planning meeting for the

year will be on Thursday, Jan.

8 at 7:30 p.m. at 7503 South

Valley Drive (Cindy’s house).

Please send us your great

ideas, or join the team.

Pet Reminder Please remember to “scoop up” after your pet when walking on community open space or along neighbors’ yards — and take it

with you for disposal. This includes drainage ditches, which South Run homeowners are required to

maintain. PLEASE — be considerate of your neighbors. As county law states, the only place you aren’t legally obligated

to scoop is your own yard (The owner or custodian of any dog shall be responsible for the removal of excreta deposited by such dog

on the property of another, including public areas: County Code Section 41-1-2, Section 108-5-2 and Section 41-2-6). No one likes

to step in a “surprise”!

From the BOT, cont.

The BOT’s contracts with our pool manage-

ment, landscape maintenance, and community

management companies are up for renewal. The

BOT has requested and will review proposals

from interested companies to provide these

services in 2015.

The BOT continues to review its Book of Reso-

lutions to ensure that the community is in com-

pliance with current laws and regulations. As

such, the BOT will begin holding monthly work-

ing meetings to review the resolutions, discuss

modifications, and give the community a chance

to engage on the issue. Please stay tuned to fu-

ture newsletters, the Facebook page, and en-

trance signs to know when these meetings are

taking place.

In 2015, we will be replacing pathways on the

southern side of the community, and in 2016,

we will replace the pathways around the pool

house and tennis courts. These projects are all

funded by the community’s replacement reserve

budget, which is separate from the community’s

operating budget.

We look forward to working together with eve-

ryone to keep our community the special place

that it has become. Our Recreation Committee

has some wonderful things in store for us all in

the coming year, including the upcoming beer

and wine tasting (see the cover for more infor-

mation). Stay in touch for the upcoming details.

As a reminder, HOA fees are due Jan. 1, April

1, July 1, and Oct. 1. Consider using our free

automatic debit program to have these fees au-

tomatically paid from your bank account to

save on postage and avoid any late fees. See

page 5 for an application.

Our next BOT meeting will take place at 7 p.m.

on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Sangster Elementary.

Those of you who live on a pipestem have been

invited to attend to discuss the issue of

pipestem escrow accounts. We hope to see

you there!
