TRANSCRIPT
The other night I heard Melissa
talking to my mother on the phone. My
mother called her in response to something
she posted on her Facebook page. It seems
Melissa was looking at her mother-in-law's
page and it said that Carolyn was interested
in the "Whiskey Tasting Festival". Melissa
knowing a little about her mother-in-law
could not help but post a response, "I didn't
know you drank whiskey".
You can probably sense where this is
going. my mother does not drink whiskey or
any kind of alcohol for that matter. A strong
allergy to alcohol has always presented a
rather high barrier to enjoying alcoholic
beverages. I share many of my families’
allergies but thankfully this is not one of
them. My mother was calling Melissa to
laugh about how this could have ended up on
her Facebook page. My mother fixed her
Facebook page in short order. As she
continued to speak to Melissa I heard
Melissa tell my mom that we were finally
starting to see the ground.
I looked out the window and
thought, "Wow we are starting to see the
ground". Spring in some respects appears to
have arrived. Of course, this does not mean
we can't still get a lot more snow and cold,
but it seems things are moving in the right
direction. Spring is a wonderful time of the
year. After all the snow and cold it is nice to
get a little break. Spring is a time for new life
and new beginnings.
God apparently likes spring too,
Revelation 21:1-7 " 1 Then I saw “a new
heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven
and the first earth had passed away, and there
was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City,
the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I
heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Look! God’s dwelling place is now among
the people, and he will dwell with them.
They will be his people, and God himself
will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He
will wipe every tear from their eyes. There
will be no more death’ or mourning or crying
or pain, for the old order of things has passed
away.” 5 He who was seated on the throne
said, “I am making everything new!” Then
he said, “Write this down, for these words
are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me:
“It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega,
the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I
will give water without cost from the spring
of the water of life. 7 Those who are
victorious will inherit all this, and I will be
their God and they will be my children." (Continued on page 3)

The Good News is all about new beginnings. What greater way for God to
show us his desire for us to have a new life and a new beginning then coming out
of the tomb after three days? If that does not bespeak of new beginnings I am
uncertain what would. God offers us in Jesus new beginnings each day, over our
life and for all eternity. Let us make the most of the new beginnings God so
lavishly offers us.
Peace in Christ,
Mark

Easter is on April 1, 2018 and many of us feel that Christmas is the most important day of the year but the winds of March have left us and Easter is arriving
with our blessings.
The Apostle Paul put it this way: “If Christ has not been raised then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.” Without the resurrection of Christ.....there would be no Christian faith. Christ’s resurrection is the solid
proof of His Divinity.
Christ brought us the promise of new life, both on earth and in heaven. We can
also reflect on the past knowing we are forgiven as a new life begins. Christ comes into our lives and so do people for a season or a lifetime. We have to remember to thank our friends in church, and our neighbors as well, who have come into our lives for a reason or a season. They may teach you something you have never known. They may even give you an unbelievable
amount of joy.
Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons whether you are a reason, a
season or a lifetime.
Please, be my friend for lifetime.

Fund Raiser for Organ Update
The organ is in need of an update. There is a recording system on it that allows Kay to
record what she is playing and then use that recording as playback to accompany her or it
can be used to simply play a song. The system has become obsolete and needs to be re-
placed. (For those of you technically savvy, the recordings are placed on a 3.5” floppy…
The new system would place all recordings on a flash drive.)
The church is accepting donations to this update through May 1st. The expected cost is
$2,000. Donations may be placed in a pew envelope marked “Organ” or you can place a
separate check in your weekly offering envelope with a memo marked “Organ”.
If you have any questions about this update, feel free to speak to Rev. Gabbard, a
member of the Trustees, or Kay.
For Your Safety…
As we all know, shootings in churches have been in the news more and more over
the last few years and, unfortunately, we no longer live in the society that many of
us remember when churches were left unlocked all the time and anyone could come
in and seek a quiet time with God as their need required.
To address the situation in our church, your church leadership has put together a Security Team to seek
information and establish policies to keep all who come to our church as safe as possible while we gather
together in worship, fellowship, and outreach.
Beginning Monday, April 30th, the church doors will be locked at all times except for established
exceptions to allow entry for scheduled events or gatherings. All entry during office hours will be through
the Bingham door only and everyone will have to buzz for admittance unless they are an authorized key
holder. There will be a limited time when doors are unlocked for everyone to gather for worship services
or other events. Anyone not entering during the established time frame will have to go to the Bingham
door for admittance.
There are still many areas of the policy that your Security Team is working out and we will have another
article in next month’s newsletter as well as inserts in the bulletins. Many of the changes may not be
welcome ones, but in today’s climate of unrest, it is necessary to take all steps possible to keep everyone
safe as we gather together to worship and do God’s work.

There are many ways to volunteer and support VBS, giving of your time, giving of your resources and through prayer, to name a few. Please contact the church office or Amy Lawson for more information on how you can help with this wonder outreach program.

Mark 16:7 (KJV, NIV, NRSV, CSB)
My Dear Friends,
I have read the Biblical record of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ numerous times. In fact, we can read a passage so
many times that we really do not read it, or take it all in. I believe Mark 16:7 to be one of those scriptures.
All of the Gospels tell us about the death and resurrection of Jesus. Yet, the four gospels each give us a different nuance as they
write to us. For example, Mark tells us about the spokesman (angel) in the tomb. Luke tells there were two angels in the
tomb.
Mark has the distinction in 16:7 of informing us that the women were commanded to go tell the disciples “and Peter.” Why
Peter? Mark is the only Gospel writer to tell us of this special mission to Peter. I believe that John Mark was a scribe, an
amanuensis for Peter. Mark accompanies Peter in all his travels. Mark sits at the feet of Peter and records for us what Peter
teaches. Mark is first hand source of information.
I still ask, “Why Peter?” We must remember a special event in Peter’s life. Peter was privileged to be present when Jesus
stood before Pilate. Members of the crowd pointed at Peter, accusing Peter of being Jesus’ disciple. What did Peter do? Three
times Peter denied knowing Jesus. The angel in the tomb wanted Peter to know that Peter was forgiven (John 21). Jesus
himself forgave Peter. Now we understand the urgency for the women to go and tell Peter.
My greatest joy this Easter is to hear Jesus say, “Forgiven.”

“We Sing...That They Shall Speak.”
Brought to by RightNow Media
These are confusing times for many Christians.
Traditional biblical values are not only rejected; it
seems as if they're attacked on every front. It's all hap-
pened at warp speed, leaving many of us spiritually and
culturally disoriented or even fearful, frustrated, and
angry. How can we spiritually survive in an increas-
ingly spiritually hostile environment? And is there any hope for the
next generation?
In this 5-session series, Larry Osborne introduces us to a man forced to
live in a fast-changing and godless society. This man faced fears about
the future, concern for his safety, and the discouragement of a world
that seemed to be falling apart at warp speed. That man was Daniel,
and with the power of hope, humility, and wisdom, he not only
survived, but thrived.
Each session also includes real-life stories of people struggling to thrive
in an ever-increasing godless society.
