Words From Rev. Everett Thomas “Over the river and through the wood to grandmother’s house we go. The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow.” My little red Buick does too. But not to grandmother’s house. To Salter Path. It’s a right onto 70 then straight to the causeway and bridge, then a right onto 58. Home! The Buick runs a little smoother and livelier as it passes the streets with names that are big to me, from Atlantic Beach to Pine Knoll Shores, to Indian Beach: Knollwood, Oakleaf, Roosevelt, Yaupon, Willow, Holly, Cedar and Maple. Already we have zipped past a bunch of friends. Onto Mimosa, Arborvitae, Maritime Place, Coral and Fiddler’s Ridge. Then Hoffman’s on the left and St. Francis on the right. A turn around the labyrinth out of sheer gratitude. Turn on the gallery lights. All magic. Climb the stairs and, it never fails: cement floor, simple furniture in a circle, nothing overly grand but everything just perfect. The whole place belongs, place and people. The Buick has once again delivered me to the best spot on earth, to people I know and love. I wanted to share with you my journey made nearly every day for almost 11 years now with the hope that it has caused you to retrace your own journey to St. Francis. Some of you have a shorter ride and others much longer. Some can make it only at certain times of the year. AND for some it is the first time. Those first-timers can be from Emerald Isle or half-way across the country. Many first-timers have already heard about us. They tell me that they have heard that there is great music, lots of love, close fellowship, good worship, children and youth who are given leadership roles, and a sense of joy. Every bit of that is true. Last Sunday one new person said that she is looking for a church that isn’t angry. Of those on my list, the two most frequent are music and joy. As summer approaches, be mindful of journeys to St. Francis, whether they are short or long, and be mindful of searchers for God. When you walk into St. Francis, what do you hope to find? Our Parishioners continue to be charitable in many ways. This includes financial giving

but also Lay ministry assignments, youth ministry, parishioner care, ECW, Daughters of the

King, choir, clean ups, landscaping, painting, meal preparation, outreach campaigns, and

church receptions that reduce the need for additional monies to be spent.

We also have a vital music ministry and Celtic Eucharists. In the process we become

friends with other parishioners as well as connecting with the community.

So why do we do Fund Raisers? These are different because they are budgeted and specific to our financial plan. We have Art Sales and events, sponsored paid concerts, out-

reach, cookbooks, memorial brick pavers and hymnals and AmazonSmile. For Lobster Fest, our largest, we need many worker bees and without them(us), it and other events would not be happening.

Frankly we have not found a spring fund raiser to supplement Lobster Fest which un-

fortunately is in Hurricane Season. Ideas include Brunswick stew take out or a crab, oyster

roast or even a limited Spring Lobster Fest and ticketed events.

To do this, we need to consider the people power available at a time when we have a

reduced parish population in winter and early spring. We also need to think about the potential

audience for these events and competition with other non-ticketed events at Saint Francis al-

ready scheduled and competing area events.

Publicity is essential for any current or new fund raiser development and ongoing activ-

ities. We encourage our parish members to step up the plate and assist those who are already

involved.

I would like to add one new fund raiser this year something modest and achievable

with future potential. As the Vestry liaison for Fund Raising, speaking for the Vestry, please share your thoughts with us.

Wednesdays 9am-4pm, Thursdays 9am-3pm and

Sundays prior to and after the 10am Eucharist

service.)

Music & Art Ministry

Outreach Ministry

Summer camp time is fast approaching! Beginning in April and

continuing through the end of May, St. Francis will be collecting for

Trinity Center Campers. Please help these kids have a great camp

experience by donating new beach towels, flip flops, swim clothes, sun

screen, bug spray, other beach gear, or cash which is most helpful. It is

important that summer campers, at least for that one week, are on

equal footing.

“Camp Trinity is a summer program sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina to serve the 74 parishes of the

diocese. Camp Trinity offers young people (grades 2-12) an opportunity to experience camping in an enjoyable and

beautiful setting along Bogue Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Campers share in a Christian program that helps them

grow spiritually and emotionally and provides them opportunities to develop new interests, skills, and friendships.” (--

They are available from any choir member or at these local businesses: In Morehead - First Presbyterian Church or Williams Hardware; in Atlantic Beach - The Pool & Patio Store, Atlantic Station Shopping Center; and in Beaufort - First Bank. TRINITY CENTER CAMPERS, cont.

Cash donations can be placed in the collection plate in a marked envelope showing that the money should go to the

Trinity Center Campers, or by a check made out to St. Francis with a note that it is for Trinity Center Campers. Please

give generously. There is a table in the parish hall set up to accept your donated items. Donations will be accepted

through the end of May.

REMINDER: Camp Trinity Sunday will be May 26. We will talk about Camp Trinity and how much it means for the

children, we will sing Christian camp songs, enjoy camp-themed foods during coffee hour, AND, you are encouraged to

dress in summer camp attire.

COMMUNITY LUNCH!

DON'T EAT ALONE--FOOD, FUN AND CONVERSATION. Our first Community Lunch was Tuesday, March 19. A delicious lunch of homemade soups, breads, and desserts were served to approximately 30 people. The second monthly Community Lunch will be held at St Francis in the Parish Hall on the third

Tuesday in April, the 16th. Lunch will be served between 11:00-12:30. Lunch is free and all are welcome, bring a friend or two or three. What a powerful way to create a community of support and caring. See

Martha Edwards or Geraline Castle for details.

ALABAMA TORNADO RELIEF

Thank you to everybody who contributed to our Alabama Tornado Relief drive. A total of $1,275 was raised and sent to the Auburn Student Veteran’s Association (ASVA), led by our own Kyle Veneble. The ASVA will put this money to good use in helping rebuild the Lee County, Alabama community. Thank you all!

MARTHA’S MISSION CUPBOARD

St. Francis Kids

For the Kids of St. Francis

Marian Goetzinger, Director of Youth Ministry

Welcome back Martha Edwards! Before we had a KIDS OF ST. FRANCIS group, there was Martha. Our young men and women who now serve so beautifully as acolytes, readers, greeters and presenters began in a toddler Sunday School class with first Claudia Sulloway and then Martha Edwards. How very blessed we are that Martha has decided to return to Sunday School ministry and is reviving classes for the younger children. She is a lifelong educator and has a love of children that is so obvious you can’t miss it. Watching her interact with children makes me happy.

Sunday School Class is every Sunday morning at 9:30. The children are brought upstairs at the PEACE. Please help us welcome children into our Sunday School and Youth program when you see children enter the sanctuary by bringing them to us or come get one of us and we’ll invite them to join us.

Martha and I will be accompanying five members of our Youth Group to the Acolyte Festival in Nags Head on March 29-31. For more information about what happens there, check out the youth section of our diocesan newsletters and web-site. The church at St. Andrews by the Sea hosts this event every year and it is amazing! The registration for this event is $45. If you’d like to sponsor a young person for this event, please write a check for $50 to St. Francis by the Sea and note that it’s for KOSF (Kids of St. Francis). The extra $5 will cover some of their incidentals. Most importantly, please pray for our safety as we travel.

This is a picture from Last year’s festival. The Kids of St. Francis are all on the right side near the front. See if you can recognize any of them. They have changed so much! This will be the 10th Annual East Carolina Acolyte Festival.

COMING SOON! Indoor yard sale to benefit activities of the Kids of St. Francis. Start saving your yard sale worthy items. Date to be announced soon. Meantime, please remember that we have an account at Sea Horse Cove Consignment Shop in Morehead City. If you take your nice upscale items there, they will sell them and send the commission to us. We have already received $140 this year for items donated by members.

As always, thank you for your support and encouragement.
