The Sometimes Monthly Bulletin of the

Lions Club of Ferrymead

Everyone Welcome

Edition NTuesday 24th July 2018

TUESDAY’S SPEAKER

KEN SNOWDENwith

LORIS

Lion Tamer Michael needs to know who is staying away or being an extra at Tuesday’s Tea Meeting by Sunday night.

The cost of the dinner should be paid in the correct cash. Save up your pennies. Waving your card is not going to help.

THE PRESIDENT’S REPORT  I think you will agree that the big event for Ferrymead Lions this year was the inducting of three ladies into the Club being Ann Newsom, Jenny Godden and Ann Finnemore and also the transfer of Rosemary Lory into the Club too. It has taken forty one years to change the Club from an all male Club. When I was last President in 2004 the big event was when we had our first Meeting in this building. What big event will happen this year when you have asked me to be President for another year? Perhaps we will manage to get some young members!!We have had another busy year doing our usual fund raising projects such as Pea Straw Sales, Marshalling, Sausage Sizzles and the ever time consuming job of sorting glasses. We hope the ladies will think up some new Projects. We have also cleaned up a person’s section and moved two lots of refugees. Unfortunately, because of our age health of our Members we have had to stop moving furniture for refugees especially after the last move was to an upstairs flat. Then there was the Convention at Brighton which for those that attended I think you will agree it was a great success. Many thanks to everyone who has helped in these projects.Neil has had another successful trip to Fiji helping distribute a large number of glasses. They find it a bit frustrating that the North Island do not sort the glasses into individual strengths.

Once again I would like to thank Members of the Board for making my task not too hard. I have always thought being Secretary and Treasurer are harder jobs and I give special thanks to Andy, Murray and Hugh for carrying on for another year. Our Finances are in a healthy state and in the last year we have been able to give away the following - Camp Quality $2000, LCIF $1500, Mount Pleasant Community Centre $360 for our Centenary Project paying for the Signage Board. Also to Canterbury Medical Research Foundation $200, Cholmondeley Home $200, Brain Injured Children’s Trust $200, Youthline $200, Scorpio Rugby League for Travel $100, West Coast Air Travel Helicopter $500, Spirit of Adventure (Twice) $700, NZ Suicide Prevention Trust $200, Fostering Kids $200, Heart Kids $200, Aviva $150, Christchurch Resettlement Services $200, 202E Youth Program $100, Autism NZ $200, LMLCCT Honoured Member Award $300, Sumner Life Boat $500, Leo Ambassador to Travel to Convention $100, Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival $250, Ferrymead Printing Society $100, Sleep Health NZ $200, Sumner Theatre group $500, Assistance for accommodating grandchildren $500 A total of $10,350 Being a member of a Lions Club is not all hard work and thanks to Dick, we have had a Mid Year Christmas dinner, February Breakfast and a BBQ lunch at Dick’s home. We have also been to a Quiz night where thanks to some outside help we won the trophy for the third year in a row! There was also an enjoyable evening Ten Pin Bowling. What we

did not do this year was visit any other Clubs at their meetings. I hope to rectify that this year. President Bill NewsomPost ScriptAlthough this doesn’t belong to the last Lion’s year it really has a strong association and a forecast of the coming year. At the Change Over night Iris Mead recipient Ngaio Tuari indicated she was going to give the award to her grand daughter who has been selected for a trip to China and the family had to pay for it. After the meeting the Board had a quick discussion and decided to give another $1000 towards the trip. Since then the Board have given $500 towards the floods in Japan and $200 towards Medical Research. We also decided to set up a Sub Committee re the possibility of having a Garage/Boot Sale probably in October. The latest project of building a shed for the Dog Watch Group has been finally finished after many hours work. Many thanks to David, Malcolm, Bernie and Hugh. For Your Calendar, Diary, Year or Digital Planner, Black Board, White Board, Ipad, Smart Phone or Android.05th August Duathlon 18th August Pea Straw Sale. SATURDAY’S SAUSAGE SIZZLE

Neville would like to thank Rosemary Lory (who donated and sliced onions) and those on duty who were Dave, Stan Tarrant, Neil, Bill & Ann, Bernie &

Jenny, Hugh and Neville. We made a good profit of $467.20, and Bernie’s leaflet posters drew interest to four possible new members - well done indeed.
