The Sobey School of Business Commerce Society is making a bold move in 2016 to change up the 42nd Annual Business Dinner by introducing

the First Annual Sobey School of Business Commerce Society Business Leadership Breakfast. After thoughtful consideration of the feedback from the business community, alumni, students, faculty and other stakeholders, we are confident that moving to a breakfast format will not only be a better time for our guests, but also enable us to deliver a better educational and networking experience for all attendees.

The Sobey School of Business Commerce Society Business Leadership Breakfast will focus on the positive influence new Canadians have made on our economy, our community and our culture. You will hear from some of Nova Scotia’s most successful entrepreneurs as well as leaders in the development of Nova Scotia’s immigration programs. We are very excited to bring this timely and unique program and very important topic to the forefront and discuss its relevant not only to business but to students and community as well.

Morning Schedule The Breakfast will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. Our program:

8:00 am Pre-breakfast coffee and gathering

8:30 am Breakfast and panel discussion

9:30 am Transition from breakfast/panel to roundtable

Business leaders may leave at this point in time and have 1-2 representatives stay to host the roundtable discussion

9:45 am Business leaders/students roundtable

10:45 am Wrap up/closing comments

Tom Murphy, Host and Emcee Tom Murphy is a host for CBC Nova Scotia News, the host of Land and Sea on CBC Television and is the Maritimes national correspondent for CBC News.

Tom Murphy started his career at CBC in Charlottetown working as both a radio and television reporter and back-up host for eight years before moving to CBC Halifax in 1999 as a current affairs reporter. He was a regular on The National, contributing to both news and current affairs before becoming the Maritimes National Correspondent in 2006.

During stints filling in as CBC’s foreign correspondent in Washington, he covered two Space Shuttle launches in Florida and Hurricane Dean in Jamaica.

At home in the Atlantic region, Tom has covered numerous elections, the 2014 shootings and funerals of three RCMP officers in Moncton for The National, the inquiry into botched cancer tests in Newfoundland and Labrador, several Royal Family visits to Canada, and interviewed legendary rocker Sir Paul McCartney. Tom won a RTNDA award for TV short feature, Atlantic Journalism Awards, a Columbus International Film and Television Festival award and received several Gemini and Canadian Screen Awards nominations.

Cassandra DorringtonPresident of CAMSC, the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council, Cassandra Dorrington leads the charge of delivering of programs and processes to promote and facilitate procurement opportunities between major corporations in Canada, and suppliers of all sizes owned and operated by Canadian Aboriginals and Minorities. In her two years at the helm, she has been instrumental in expanding the CAMSC brand across Canada and significantly growing the supplier base in Canadian marketplace.

As a result of CAMSC’s growing prominence in the business community, Cassandra sits as a member of the Toronto 2015 Diversity Advisory Council and the Toronto Board of Trade Diversity Council and she has been frequent speaker at seminars and conferences both nationally and internationally.

Currently, Cassandra sits as the Chair for the National Board of Directors of Certified Management Accountants of Canada, the Co-Chair of the newly merger CMA /CA organization - CPA Canada, and Chair for the Black Business Enterprise in Nova Scotia. She also sits on the Advisory Board for the Sobey School of Business.

In addition to her wide range of experiences in the business world, Cassandra’s community involvement has garnered her Commemorative Medal for the 125th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, the YWCA Woman of Distinction award for Community Service and a 2010 Women of Excellence award.

David Nurse is the owner and founder of Windward Immigration Law.

David’s work involves helping highly skilled foreign workers and Canadian employers navigate Canada’s complex immigration system.

David is a graduate of the University of King’s College and Dalhousie Law School, and has been a member of the Nova Scotia bar since 2000.

Before starting his own law practice, David served for two years as the Director of Programs and Corporate Initiatives with the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.

David is currently servicing as the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Citizenship and Immigration Law section here in Nova Scotia.

Ulrike is the President & CEO at Digital Nova Scotia. She is a multilingual senior level executive with over 20 years of combined experience in the private & public sectors. Her career spans five geographic regions: America (North), Africa (South), Middle East, Asia & Europe.

Ulrike has worked in executive leadership roles at the headquarters of prominent technology multinationals, SMEs & Startups in Israel, the UK, Germany & Canada, including Intel, Compaq/HP, RAD Data Communications, Madge Networks, McAfee, Commtouch Software & Seaside Wireless. Her diverse sector expertise in software, hardware & networking products in ICT companies, and software development in med-tech, aerospace & defense industries, provides her with first-hand experience & insight into the multi-sectoral facets of the ICT sector & its magnitude of

opportunities.

Ulrike was most recently named as a WXN 2015 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner.
