Over 1000 L/M of Smart Hobs were used on this 14 level project, replacing the conventional on site construction of timber hob formwork.

Returning to strip timber form ply and patch damaged hobs once concrete has set requires considerable time, effort and labour. Once installed, Smart Hobs form a permanent system, removing those steps entirely from the hob formwork construction process. Using the Smart Hob system, each level can be completed and handed over faster.

Black Fold Apartments

When the project manager says they will use Smart Hobs on all their jobs because they are ‘so easy and strong’, it’s clear that the system is proving itself to be the preferred method for hob formwork construction.

The Smart Hob team worked closely with the developers, initially supplying 150 lengths to the specified size. Manufactured and then delivered to site, the hobs were installed and fixed into place by the wall and ceiling contractors. The hobs were then filled with concrete by the on site concreting team.

Installed as a permanent system, there is no need to wait for the concrete to set before stripping temporary ply and removing nails. Once the Smart Hobs are waterproofed, the construction teams are then able to immediately move to the next section or level.

Echo Apartments

With many levels of hob formwork to complete on this apartment project, the formwork contractor wasn’t spending unnecessary time on site by traditionally forming up their hob framing.

In the customer’s own words, ‘It’s a really simple system that saves heaps of time.’

By using just two workers to pin the pre-formed hobs to the concrete and fix the reo bars, it not only made the process easier on site, it was much faster, smarter and more economical. Additional time was saved by filling the hobs with structural grout instead of coming back to top-up.

Spring Malvern

Using the Smart Hob system, the hob formwork process is twice as fast.

Permanent steel hobs were fabricated and delivered direct to site for this 4 level project. Once in place and filled with concrete, there was no need to return to strip timber ply, remove nails and patch the hobs. Straight and true hobs also result in the advantage of no warping or bending when hobs are set.

Starward Distillery

The Smart Hob system is not usually an exposed product. Yet for this distillery project, it was the ideal solution to create a raised water barrier system, separating the processing areas from the public spaces.

Replacing the traditional method of forming up a concrete step, the permanent metal hob resulted in a neat and clean finish, adding to the industrial style.
