Hello members and associates of ECARA.

This month we will hold our meeting at the Quinebaug Valley Communications

Center in Dayville, CT. At last month’s meeting, I passed out the ECARA /DEMHS

Communications Operator ID Cards. I will have the remaining cards with me at this

month’s meeting, so you can pick yours up there if you weren’t at the last meeting.

On October 15, 2016, ECARA members will host the annual Scouting Jamboree on

the Air for local scouts at the Jesse Hay –Waldron Camp at 108 Mountain Hill Rd

and will operate from 10 AM to 6PM on Saturday. The call sign we will be using this

year is K1MUJ. We are registered with the international JOTA site under K1MUJ.

We had fun last year at this event, and assisted about 75 scouts operate the stations

and communicate with other scouts across the world. Hopefully the band conditions

will cooperate. We will also be using the K1MUJ repeater for scouts to get exposure

to repeater operation. If you can’t make the event, please make contact with our local

Visitors, Guests & Past Members: none

K1CSP presiding. Quorum established to conduct business.

Secretary’s Report:

Motion made to accept the July and August minutes as

published in the August & September SinePosts; seconded and

carried.

Treasure’s Report:

For the months of July & August; beginning balance:

$8008.19; receipts: dues – $19.12; none; expenses: liability

insurance - $320.00, annual PO box fee - $48.00; ending

balance: $7659.31. Motion made to accept the July and

August Treasurer’s Reports as read; seconded and carried.

Old Business:

Discussion of options for replacement/repair of the long

wire HF dipole antenna at the Camp Waldron Jessie Hay

Lodge. Installation of a ~15ft pipe mast as a gable mount,

or a small pedestal mounted tower secured to the gable

were discussed in more detail. The option of a weighted

line on the anchor tree at each end was not recommended

if the balun needed to be fixed at the center to a pipe mast

due to the dynamic asymmetric lateral forces that may be

applied to the balun during high winds. A proposal needs

to be developed for presentation to the Lodge directors for

approval. Ctc: K1CSP

The Brooklyn Fair was briefly discussed indicating that

several visitors were interested in the Tech course starting

this month. Club awaiting report from KB1JDX.

New Business:

BSA/GSA JOTA event to be held 10/15-16. Set up of 2

HF & 1 VHF stations at lodge on 10/14 discussed & need

for volunteers to man 10AM to 6PM operation next 2

days. KA1MPG, KA1MPI, N1NNP, K1ZE, K1JFT on

board; K1AGL to be contacted by K1CSP, others

welcome. K1CSP will coordinate with W1EQ for press

coverage. Ctc: K1CSP

Flea market 2017 discussed. The Southington club has

posted that their event will be on 3/19 so it was

recommended that our event should be scheduled for 3/18

(as in the past). Venues for the 2017 event were

discussed: Elk’s Club, only has round tables requiring that

rectangular ones be rented & brought in); E Putnam FD is

not big enough to accommodate & would not have

enough tables anyway; St Joseph’s Hall, Dayville (2016

fee $150) has space & parking issues but should remain

an option; Thompson Community Center ($75 fee) has

plenty of space, parking & tables but 6AM opening may

be issue, K1CSP to inquire further.

Tech class to start 9/21 and to continue each Wed for

10wks. Ctc: KB1JDX

The Thompson Community Day on 9/25, is from noon to

4PM, and the trailer will be there. Volunteers needed.

Ctc: KB1JDX

As the SinePost transitions to KC1BLH, she has created

the new SinePost email address: [email protected]

which will be used for distribution and service requests.

Spouse of silent key WA1LP contacted club and offered

equipment to club for flea market. Equipment was picked

up by K1CSP & K1ZE.

No updates were available for the DMR system at this

time. It was also reported that the recent VHF contest had

very limited activity.

The club received a first place award for the VHF contest

held in September. Named scorers in the award were

W1UJ, N1WK, KR1U, KE1LI, K1CSP, K1ZE, KB1TIM

for a total of 28,044 points. Award certificate filed with

club secretary.

Potential 2017 field day locations were identified:

Thompson (Pasay Rd), the ball field next to QVEC, and

Pomfret Recreational Park. Ctc: KA1MPG

Good of the order: need more use of the K1MUJ repeater

Meeting adjourned at 2005hrs.

A shout out to all those who put in the time & effort to make this club great!
