The sight of the Star filled them with delight

To the Wise People who travelled from the east, they were drawn like a magnet to the power of this historic event. The birth of Jesus—announced by the presence in the night sky of this radiant star, gives hope to the world that God has not abandoned humanity in our time of need but through the incarnation, God is truly present with us on our journey! Jesus is the divine revealed—once and for all time, thus He is worth a visit by people who are wise! We too seek to draw inspiration and comfort from the birth of Jesus in our times. 2017 has started around the world with more violence and death in Europe and a few earthquakes. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those effected by these tragedies. No year starts peacefully when we consider the whole world and its peoples, but that does not stop us from desire of peace which is internal—the desire for God to be close to us! After the heavy rains and somewhat ‘cold’ conditions ‘summer’ in Australia has truly arrived. For me to see the number of people enjoying all the water sports on offer down the Mornington Peninsular and even dipping into the cold Port Phillip Bay was wonderful! The traffic on the roads to these holiday spots was not so appreciated. Please keep cool in these high temperature days. Michael

Congratulations to

Sr. Joan Marshall on the 50th Anniversary

her of Profession

The Gate of the Year

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:’

Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown’

And he replied: ‘ Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God.

That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way!

So I went forth and finding the hand of God Trod gladly into the night.

He led me towards the hills And the breaking of day in the lone east.

So heart be still! What need our human life to know

If God hath comprehension ?

In all the dizzy strife of things Both high and low

God hideth his intention. M.L.Harkins

1 Month Remembrance

Sunday’s Gospel: Matthew 2: 1-12 After Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in Judaea during the reign of King Herod, some wise men came to Jerusalem from the east. ‘Where is the infant king of the Jews?’ they asked. ‘We saw his star as it rose and have come to do him homage.’ When King Herod heard this he was perturbed, and so was the whole of Jerusalem. He called together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, and enquired of them where the Christ was to be born. ‘At Bethlehem in Judaea,’ they told him, ‘for this is what the prophet wrote:

And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are by no means least among the leaders of Judah, for out of you will come a leader who will shepherd my people Israel.’ Then Herod summoned the wise men to see him privately. He asked them the exact date on which the star had appeared, and sent them on to Bethlehem. ‘Go and find out all about the child,’ he said ‘and when you have found him, let me know, so that I too may go and do him homage.’ Having listened to what the king had to say, they set out. And there in front of them was the star they had seen rising; it went forward and halted over the place where the child was. The sight of the star filled them with delight, and going into the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and falling to their knees they did him homage. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. But they were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, and returned to their own country by a different way.

The next meeting for St. Vincent de Paul Moorabbin/ Bentleigh Conference, will held on January 9th. 2017 at 7.00 pm. in the Sweeney Centre . .
