Greetings Members and Associate Members!

My sister, Jeanne and I were watching Mark Levin interviewing a man from

South Africa who is working to stop Sex Trafficking. So I Google Sex Traffick-

ing in Nevada and Las Vegas.

Definition: Human Trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, includ-

ing sexual slavery. A victim who is forced in one of variety of ways, into a situation of de-

pending on their trafficker and then used by soul trafficker to give sexual services to custom-

ers. Human trafficking is a form of human slavery that occurs in every state including Neva-

da.

The NHTH (Nevada Human Trafficking Hotline) works closely with service providers, law en-

forcement, and other professionals to support mentors and survivors of trafficking cases, and

share information and resources.

2019 reports January through August from NHTH: Sex – 260, Labor – 21, Not specific – 17,

sex and labor – 15. Gender: Female – 230, Male – 16. Adults – 178, Minors – 68.

SEPTEMBER SPEAKER Victor Joecks—Review Journal Columnist

We are so pleased to welcome back Review Journal columnist Victor Joecks as our speaker in September. As a columnist Victor covers local, state, and federal policy issues. Before joining the RJ Victor spent eight years writing commentaries, analyses and blog posts for the non-partisan Nevada Policy Research Institute. Victor focuses on the Nevada legislature and works to improve govern-ment transparency. In addition Victor is a veteran and continues his service as a member of the Army National Guard for 11 years.

We consider Victor to be an expert on Nevada politics and issues that affect our state. He will be sharing his opinion and thoughts regarding the last legislative session and current politics and policies in Nevada and nationally.

The nominating committee will conduct interviews and present a slate to the Exec-utive Board. Once approved by the EB the slate will be presented to the Membership at the October meeting. The election is held at the November meeting where nominations may also be made from the floor.

OCTOBER 22 SPEAKER—Dan Schwartz

2020 Candidate for Congressional District 3

Join us on October 22 to meet and hear from Dan Schwartz who has an-nounced he will seek to take the Congressional District 3 seat from Susie Lee. Dan served as our state Treasurer from January 2015 to January 2019. He is an international businessman, attorney and strong Republi-can. As our State Treasurer he questioned Governor Sandoval’s tax in-creases and supported Education Savings Accounts. Schwartz has also pursued other objectives at the Treasurer's office. He has reduced the number of process days from 120 to same-day processing for unclaimed property claims, combined and strengthened the college savings program, refunded the State's debt to produce $80 million in annual savings, has authored bills to curb the abuses of payday loans, and suggested a major overhaul of the State's tax system.

NOVEMBER 22 SPEAKER—Melissa Hardy—Representative for Assembly District 22

Join us on November 22 when our guest speaker will be Melissa Hardy, our Representative for Assembly District 22. Melissa will talk to us about how she became a candidate, what it means to run for office. How much time did she devote to walking neighborhoods and knocking on doors and what does it cost to run a successful campaign. She will give us her impression re-garding the last legislative session, what we Republicans lost and her best ideas on how we can get it back. In addition to all of this Melissa will open our luncheon by singing the National Anthem.

We are very blessed that our speaker also has a beautiful voice and is willing to share it with us.
