TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION

For this section of research, I have looked into other ways in which companies can help potential filmmakers, other than funding. For this, I have researched the following companies and the ways that they support new and emerging filmmakers:

Lighthouse
Raindance

Creative Skillset

The Script Factory

Shooting People

LIGHTHOUSE

Lighthouse is an agency that offers support to artists within the fields of contemporary art, digital culture, music, film and more. They are able to organise commissions, exhibitions, events and education schemes in order to help the arts industry.

Guiding Lights is a programme offered by Lighthouse, which is in charge of mentoring filmmakers across the country, and is well known for doing so.

Lighthouse also support filmmakers through the co-founded event Brighton Digital Festival, as well as through their own venue in Brighton. They are able to screen their pieces at other festivals and institutes. (n.d)

Raindance offers support through their Raw Talent company."Raindance Raw Talent Ltd is a film production company formed to make movies of all shapes and sizes utilising the amazing talent that crosses our paths through the film school and festival known as Raindance." This allows filmmakers to get the support and experience they need to gain more recognition in the industry. The Raindance festival, along with Raw Talent, helps to achieve this. (n.d)

Creative Skillset is a skills body that helps individuals to develop the skills they need for employment in the creative industry. This is to boost the amount of jobs that potential filmmakers and other artists are able to be employed in, as well as to keep the UK's creative industry at the quality and success it is today. Creative Skillset funds and oversees several training programmes in which people can develop their skills. (n.d)

The Script Factory, according to companies house, no longer exists. Prior to closing down in November 2015, the Script Factory was a leading organisation that targeted filmmakers, specifically to find and develop those who were interested in screenwriting. It ran from 1996, until November 2015. (n.d)

SHOOTING PEOPLE

According to their website, Shooting People (n.d), is an organisation that gives potential filmmakers access to learn from more experienced people. Shooting People aims to offer as much opportunity as possible, by funding independent films, and hosting a vast directory of film competitions held by big brands, and film courses that would help to expand the filmmakers knowledge and experience in working within the film industry.
