Sincethenwehavehadtheverysuccessfulinformationday

for“DaysForGirls”.About70peopleattendedandwehad

about45registertheirinterestinbecominginvolvedinthe

program.Bestofallwehavetwowomenwhohavedeclared

theirinterestinbeingleaders.RosemaryRichardsdidaverygoodjobatpresentingthe

informationonthedaydespiteherpriorreluctance.WelldoneRosemary.

OnTuesdaynighttheHighlandsEngineeringandSciencechallengedinnerwasheldand

thoughIwasunabletoattendbecauseofillnessIunderstanditwentwellandtheguest

speakerontheSMARTprogramwasinteresting.

OnWednesdaynightwehadtheopportunitytovideolinkwiththeEClubNumberOneof

SouthAfricaandparticipateintheDistributionceremonyoftheSUBZpacksforgirlsatthe

JGZumaHighSchool.RotarianAlanFrancisdeliveredaconciseandheartfeltmessagetothe

schoolfromus.WelldoneAl.Thetechnologydidnotworkverywellformewithpoorsound

butitwasgreattobepartofthisproject.

OnWednesdayhe16thwealsoparticipatedonceagaindeliveringforMealsonWheels.This

isagreatprogramtobeassociatedwithandIthinkweshouldtryandlinkRotarywiththis

bywearingsomeRotaryshirtorhat.

Atlastweek’sboardmeetingwedecidedtodonate$2,000toGemmaSisiafortheSchoolof

StJudetoshowourcontinuingcommitmenttoherandtheschool.Thechequewillbe

presentedtoherbyPresidentElectBrettCampbellatthelunchforheratOConnorHigh

Schoolonthe29thMarch.

Theboardalsoallocated:

1. $500toDaysforGirlsformaterialstosewthekits.

2. $380forcookingequipmentforAscentstafftoteachcookingskills.

3. $2,000toourRAWCSteammemberstosupplementthe$2000theyareproviding

formaterialsfortheworktheyaredoingontheKokodaHospital.

4. $1500toNYSFcandidateandwealreadyhaveakeenstudentpresenttoourclub

fromOConnor.

OthernewsfromtheboardmeetingconcernsYEP.Ourclubhasdecidednottoparticipate

intheprogramthisyear.Thereasonsweremultipleandcanbediscussedatourmeeting

thisThursday.

WehavetwostudentswhowishtoattendMUNAinKempseyinlateMayandtheclubwill

supporttheirattendance.

PleaseputinyourdiariesthePolioPlusFundraisingmovieEddietheEagleonthe13thof

April.Costwillbe$20aheadwithluckydoorprizes.Wewillneedthedonationofsome

bottlesofwineforthedoorprizes.Sokeepthisinmindasyougothroughthewine

Germany.Theyneednumbersandwewillbecirculatingalistforyoutocommitthisweek

uses.ThefounderoftheshelterboxmovementwasTomHendersonfromCornwall.Notallboxes

arethesame.Theyaretailormadeforthetypeofreliefthatisrequired.ShelterBoxescost$1000

andareabletosupport10peopleforayear.Therehavebeen135,000shelterboxesdistributed

since2000andhavesupportedcatastrophiceventssuchasBundabergin2013,Philippinestyphoon

in2013,BlueMountainsBushfires(2013),Gaza(2014),Kenyanconflict(2008)andwillbedeployed

inFijiintheaftermathofCycloneWinstonthisyear.
