Notes from the Principal

Dear Saint John Vianney School Friends and Families,

School safety is an extremely important issue, but it is not a new issue. Looking back, we can remember fire drills and tornado drills. Some of us (or our parents) can even remember Civil Defense drills. Thus far, we have already had our required fire and tornado drills. The purpose of such drills is to have them with frequency so that students are familiar with the drill procedure and follow the guidelines and protocols as a matter of routine. In addition to fire and tornado drills, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction now requires school safety drills. Saint John Vianney School will conduct its first student drill tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20

th.

The Saint John Vianney School safety plans have been made in consultation with professional safety advisors and re-viewed by the Brookfield Police Department. Our school has received confirmation that our safety plan meets all stand-ards for quality and detail. Please discuss tomorrow’s safety drill with your child(ren) with the confidence that the safety drill will be conducted in a calm and reassuring manner to protect their feeling of well-being and security.

Peace,

Chris Gordon, principal

Dear SJV Families,

In September our students starred in the production of our very first school video. The edits have been completed and we are ready to roll out the red carpet! All of the students and staff will be participating in the premiere viewing of “SJV…Our Story.” This viewing will occur on Tuesday, November 19, at 2:30pm. Please join the celebration by accessing the link below and watching our all school video as it is featured on an electronic device near you!

We are inviting you to share our extraordinary story with friends and family and those you feel may be interested in what makes SJV an incredible school with a mission based on faith, excellence and community. The St. John Vianney School Board would like to take advantage of social media to promote our school. Please help us in spreading the word about SJV by reposting the link on your face book page and other social media channels.

Let’s give them something to talk about!

Curé d'Ars SJV School Annual Fund

Thank you to all! As of Sunday, November 17, we have had a number of school families that have already returned their Curé d'Ars SJV School Annual Fund Letters of Intent and shown their support for this critical endeavor. Our goal is to have 60% of the school families re-turn their Letters of Intent by Friday, November 22, 2013. To celebrate reaching our goal, the kids will be awarded an Out of Uniform day.

Please remember your support of the 2013 – 2014 Curé d'Ars SJV School Annual Fund can be through prayer, time and talent, and financial contributions. The Curé d'Ars SJV School Annual Fund committee

This year at the Christmas concert, we will be featuring musical interludes in place of middle school essays during the transition between performance groups. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to participate in an interlude. Auditions will be held on Thursday, November 21

st from 2:55-3:40pm and also on Tuesday, December 3

rd from 2:55-3:50pm for stu-

dents who wish to perform a musical interlude. Interludes must coincide with our Christmas concert theme, must be school-appropriate, and can be any combination of students and instrumentation (can be a solo, duet, trio, etc. and can be any combination of voices and/or instruments). There is a sign-up sheet on the music room door for the auditions; students must sign up for an audition in order to be considered for an interlude. Please email Mrs. Revers at [email protected] with any questions.

From the Home & School Board

Thank you to YOU, the Home and School Association:

For dining out with us last Wednesday at Buffalo Wild Wings. Proceeds go back to our school to help create the many programs our children are involved in throughout the school year.

Thank you to Mary Claire Barker and & Ann Maguire Rizzo for running the Share a Pie program. We donated 730 pies to share with families in the metro Milwaukee area. Thank you! Your generosity will be appreciated.

YOU better watch out! I'm telling you why....on December 13, the Santa’s Secret Shoppe is coming to town. We are looking for Santa's SJV helpers to assist children in buying Christmas gifts. Watch for volunteer sign-up through Volunteer Spot.

Next Week.... stop at the Home and School table during Parent Teacher conferences. Gather information from SCRIP, Santa’s Secret Shoppe and Barnes & Noble Book Fair. Also, drop off your Christmas concert permission slips and the Parent Survey! As you pass our table, come watch our SJV school video, created by the Advancement Committee of the School Board. A lot of time and energy went into making this marketing masterpiece!

Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie were not part of this fifth grade Thanksgiving celebration. The fifth graders celebrated as the Pilgrims did in 1621; their meal included items such as crab, shrimp, venison, seeds, dried fruit, squash, corn, parsnips, berries, grapes, plums, and watercress. The students also wrote historical and modern Thanksgiving prayers and they played a popular game of the early 1600’s called Nine Men’s Morris.

Third graders made graphs with Skittles. The graph types were line plots, frequency tables, bar graphs, and picture graphs. They also made five equal groups to find the mean. When they were done, they got to eat the red, green, yel-low, orange, and brown Skittles.

Second grader, Alie H., placed second in her age group for the Brookfield library bookmark contest!

Congratulations, Authors
