President’s Message Gary Tucker
As now Past President Greg
Pfremmer wrote in the last issue of the
Shore Line , “this is my last President’s
Message as my two year term is end-
ing…”, I now get to write: “this is now
my first Presidents Message as my 2
year term is beginning”!
So, how did I get here? Well, as some of you know, I
walked into Porsche Monmouth around 2004 and found not
much of a presence between the Porsche Club and our store.
I had only been in the industry at this point for about 3 years
and I was attending events and meetings with that other club
up North. However, once here, we got the ball rolling with
the JSR Porsche club and we really started having fun! I
even got Jerry Nelson to agree to allow us to sponsor our first
DE! And, let’s not forget, my (ill) attempt at journalism with
my “ Dealer Perspective….” article. I did have a brief depar-
ture from Schneider + Nelson a few years back, yet I was
thrilled to see the article continue and our monthly board
meeting still take place here in my absence. Years ago we
“home hopped” amongst board members homes for the clubs
monthly board meetings and then I had an idea of meeting
here, and the rest is history. The board meetings have contin-
ued here every first Tuesday ( or so) of the month ever since!
It was at one of our board meetings last Fall that the call out
for a new club President. Well, I have been hosting the meet-
ings, involved in almost every event, now know many from
other clubs that we work in tandem with and when I was invit-
ed to be nominated as President, this just seemed like a nat-
ural fit! So, thank you for allowing me the privilege to direct
this club that has such a fine pedigree behind it!

The timing for this new roll could not be better! My current position with Porsche
Monmouth will benefit all of us. My peers at Penske Automotive believe in a strong
relationship with the Porsche club – globally! What most folks do not know, we are the
16th Penske owned Porsche store, and there are more Penske owned Porsche
stores internationally then there are nationally! So how does this benefit you, the
member of the JSR Porsche club? As our dealership grows ( construction has start-
ed again!), we will be hosting more and more events. But please know, the events I
am planning are twofold. I will be planning ( along with the board members, and input
for you!) events for the club, just now we will have more resources and soon a fabu-
lous starting point/gathering place once the new place is done. Of course the dealer
events will happen; new car launches, Porsche Corporate Sponsored Events etc., but
the cool thing is, the team here is ready to be involved. The more we are involved as
a whole, the more we can do for the club. Another DE event in the future? Sure! Well
planned driving events to fabulous places? Why not! Indoor racing in the winter in the
new store in our driving simulators we will have? Absolutely! Social gatherings just for
the heck of it? Why not! Also, you will get a “Dealer Perspective” article not from me,
but from someone else in the store each time it’s published and truly get a different
perspective on dealer life.
Just as the construction of the new store is not going to happen overnight, neither
will all I would like to plan happen quickly. But I assure you this; any comments , con-
cerns, suggestions I will answer. My cell number had been on my business card for
16 years, its 908-461-4813; and until I get fancy PORSCHE club e-mail address , I
can be reached at [email protected].
I truly look forward to my next two years and I am honored to be a chapter in the
pages of this storied 55 year old club! And again, as I tell my staff and clients, my
door is always open and I am looking forward to hearing from you with any sugges-
tions and ideas to help better this ever growing club!
I wish you all the best and thank you,
Gary Tucker

Members Spotlight - Leonard Cordaro By: Mike Bavaro
Our ―Anniversaries‖ page in this first issue of the new year lists Leonard Cordaro of Holmdel,
NJ as a 25 year member. This struck me as odd as we have known Leonard since the early
eighties and he was a JSR member back then. When we spoke, Leonard and I surmised that he
may have lapsed his PCA membership back in the 90’s for a year or so, then rejoined in 1992.
This seems most logical as my wife and I met the Cordaros at the annual JSR Concours
D’Elegance at the Rumson Country Club in the early 1980’s. Our kids were in strollers as
were his two younger children.
Leonard and his wife Susan were avid Porsche owners and club members having purchased
their first Porsche in 1971, a 911 T coupe. Leonard commuted to graduate school in Troy N.Y.
in his Porsche and racked up some miles. In 1976 he purchased a new 911 S coupe, metallic
bronze with a sunroof from Precision Porsche in Oakhurst. This dealership would become
Schneider + Nelson Porsche Audi in years to come.
Leonard has cared for that car over the years amassing a total of 53,000 miles on the clock.
Even more amazing is that he still owns it to this day.
Leonard and Susan Joined the Jersey Shore Porsche Club after meeting friends at a party in
1976. They soon were active and Susan found herself as the Shoreline Newsletter editor. In
1977 the hottest new Porsche was the 924. This Porsche was bright yellow and attracted a lot
of attention as everyone wanted this new waserpumper. Leonard was not thrilled with the lack
of power from the Audi engine and replaced the car in 1979 for another 924 in copper metallic
color. Around the same time as raising kids, Leonard decided on a project car, what better than
a 356 ? and what better 356 than a Speedster? He purchased a 1954 Porsche Speedster in pri-
mer with no interior. His project car had him busy for the next 5 years. Another JSR PCA
member ,now deceased, that made his living in a garage in Little Silver making 356 restoration
sheet metal, was Hans Donner. He was quite good at it as we used many of his floor pans in
restorations that we did here at Bodymotion in the 80’s. But, as many backyard projects go, in-
terest waned. The car sat untouched from 1983 until 2013. After pulling the cover up Leonard
noticed that the paint had begun to craze. Even though the car never saw a mile of driving, age
took its toll on the old laquer type paint.
The Shoreline | January—February 2017 | Page 7
In 1981 Leonard solved his problem with lack of power in the aforementioned 924’s. He pur-
chased a 1980 924 Turbo and kept it for two years, he traded his power problem for a headache
problem as the 924 turbos were fraught with a/c and turbo issues. He traded that car in for a
1980 911 SC Targa, this car later had an unfortunate wreck at the hands of his youngest daugh-
ter Melissa.
Over the years Leonard has had his share of hardship, he is not one to talk about it as he bears
his burdens in life. Back in his college days at Notre Dame he lost his then girlfriend and both
parents in a small plane crash, and later on to lose the love of his life Susan to cancer. But
Leonard is a survivor and has fought to maintain his family and his business. He continues to
modernize the business he owns in Avenel N.J with robotics and process monitoring. Premier
Die Casting Company, a business that has shrunk like many American manufacturers, but
Leonard’s tenacity has kept his business strong and competitive. He has also fought back
against economic tough times as more and more manufacturing has moved off our shores.
Leonard is a fighter, make no mistake about his quiet and un assuming demeanor, he has
emerged strong in his personal and family life, and in his business life. I admire his positive
attitude as this is the natural result of hard work and tenacity.
He has revitalized the 356 Speedster project and it is near completion on a complete concours
restoration on the old Porsche Speedster. Not a bad idea the way prices have gone on these old
and very rare Porsches. Perhaps we can coax him to join us this coming spring at the Porsches
on the Beach event and unveil his labor of love.
From left to right: Vinnie Moscera, Al Moscera, Leonard Cordaro, Paul McClear, and Kim Willes.
Leonard is an avid guitar player and is pictured here with fellow band members from ―One Track Mind‖.

Dealer’s Perspective - What does PORSCHE CPO mean?
By George Gunn, Porsche Monmouth Pre – Owned Manager
We are proud to sell Porsche Certified Vehicles here at Porsche Monmouth. Since my arrival to Porsche Monmouth in
February 2015, we have built a department then now regularly sells double digits of Porsche Certified Vehicles monthly.
As Gary and PAG ( Penske Auto Group) knows, this has never happened before. My background is in Certified Pre –
Owned, as I was with another Porsche store for 4 years. And before that Jaguar and Mercedes Benz during my 20 plus
year career.
I believe in the Certified Pre Owned Programs administered by the manufacture, and Porsche holds us to a high-
er bar! The mandatory 111 point inspection is extensive and time consuming. The reconditioning alone mechanically
that we must do in order to represent the vehicle is above the industry standard in my opinion. I can tell you, I know of
no other manufacturer that makes us bring your next pre - owned vehicle up to an ―as new‖ standard.
We invest considerably in the Porsche CPO vehicle, or, when I make a purchase decision on an off – lease
Porsche, or any that I appraise, if It does not make the grade, I pass on the vehicle. What you probably don’t know, this
decision comes from the technicians, as I have them do a pre – purchase inspection on every car. I am their best custom-
er. Whether I buy it or not, my department gets charged regardless! We actually regularly get audited by Porsche on
vehicles delivered or vehicles on the lot. This happens randomly. There is a routing sheet they look at on delivered units
and they actually inspect all on the in stock units. I am happy to say, we passed my first two and our dealerships last two
audits with 100%.
Please rest assured in knowing, the purchase of a Certified Pre – Owned Vehicle is a smart one, as the deprecia-
tion has been taken out of the vehicle and if it says Porsche Certified Pre – Owned, mechanically it is as close to a new
car standard as one can get.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at [email protected]
Sincerely,
George P. Gunn II

Mike’s Morsels By Mike Bavaro
PORSCHE DOPPELKUPPLUNG TRANSMISSION
The PDK transmission has now been around for a few years. The sales figures don’t lie,
there are simply more Porsche cars being made with the PDK transmission than standard 6
speed gearboxes. There are no arguments for or against PDK here, in fact if you’re looking for
one, you won’t find it here. I simply wanted to transmit some findings and observations we
have made with street cars and also some experience we have had with the PDK in race cars.
The PDK or Doppelkupplung is German for double coupling ,or simply double clutch.
Not the double clutch technique you learned to drive say, in an early Formula Ford race car, or,
a 1960’s era car with worn syncros, but truly a twin clutch system. Not because two are better
than one, but out of necessity, as the PDK has two input shafts that transmit the power thru one
or the other clutch from the crankshaft to the gear clusters and then thru the final drive to the
axles and to the wheels.
Time has always been a factor with manual transmission synchronizers or syncros. The
time I refer to is the time in milliseconds it takes for the mainshaft driven gear to match the
speed of the matching gear on the output shaft and vice versa. When the syncros wear, it takes
more time for the shift to be complete. Eventually you would have to employ the technique
mentioned above known as ―double clutching‖. This is done by disengaging the clutch by
pushing the pedal to the floor, this breaks the power flow and allows you to remove the gear
shift lever from its current gear position, then releasing or engaging the clutch momentarily be-
fore rapidly depressing the clutch pedal again. This disengagement allows the new gear to be
selected and gives enough time for the gears to safely mesh without that horrible clash or
grinding sound.
So new syncros in a standard or stick shift transmission need the least ―time‖ to com-
plete the task, whilst worn syncros take increasingly longer times. PDK eliminates this by hav-
ing the next gear, whether up or down shifting, already engaged on the opposite shaft while the
currently selected gear is engaged and in use. The shift happens when the clutch pack selected
is energized and the current clutch is de-energized. This is done with hydraulic fluid pressure,
similar to a fully ―automatic‖ transmission. This fluid—or as the guys in the shop refer to it,
―PDK juice‖ - is said by Porsche to be of ―lifetime‖ use. Who’s lifetime you ask?
We have found that this fluid runs at very high pressures and temperatures and carries
the worn microscopic elements of the clutch and gears as they wear. Porsche has cleverly dis-
guised the lower ―oil pan‖ as just a lower covering (plastic) on the bottom of the PDK trans.
However it incorporates a filtering system design specifically to trap those little microbe size
particles aforementioned. However, as we all know now, racing puts two to three times the
wear and tear on all components vs. street car usage, thus advancing the age of the PDK under
extreme conditions.
The Shoreline | January—February 2017 | Page 11
So Porsche’s claim that the fluid and filter be ―lifetime‖ is
quite accurate, except for severe duty race cars, in my opinion. In
fact we have found signs of PDK transmissions running higher
temperatures actually damages the PDK fluid and causes it to smell
burned. We therefore recommend if the car is tracked or raced that
the PDK fluid be renewed and the oil pan assembly be replaced.
The time and mileage interval is the owners responsibility as no
shop or dealer can know what the transmission has been thru. For
occasional track use I would do the service every two years, where-
as in our dedicated race cars twice per season.
The final note is on the final drive. This section of the trans-
mission houses the ring and pinion and differential. In standard
boxes the same gear oil in the manual box is shared with the gear
oil. Most race cars and hard driven D.E. cars even have circulation
systems and external coolers. The PDK transmission has two sepa-
rate fluids, the PDK hydraulic section and the final drive section. Be sure to change both fluids
as they both work together to cool the transmission internal parts. If you have a limited slip dif-
ferential, whether factory Porsche or aftermarket, the fluid change intervals should be acceler-
ated to every other race or for DE weekends, once per year for the final drive. This fluid, or
gear oil should be of highest specification for shock load, heat, and compatible with your lim-
ited slip differential internal clutches, if so equipped.
We have only replaced one PDK transmission so far in an all out race cars. There are no
tools, or procedures for repair. Other than the aforementioned fluids, oil pan and axle seals, this
transmission is a sealed unit and cannot be repaired. A replacement gearbox, if you’re not un-
der warranty, costs well over $20,000! Be good to it and it will take care of you.

Holiday Party 2016 By Bill Casey
We had another great Holiday Party at the ever popular Manasquan River Golf Club. This year
we opted to upgrade both the appetizer and entree choices and the club picked up the
difference in the price.
From all the comments this was well received and all enjoyed the extended appetizers.
During the evening Greg Pfremmer was presented with a plaque for his contributions to the
club and for all he has done as president, track chairman, organizer and newsletter publisher.
There was a raffle of door prizes as well and everyone went home with at least 1 or more
items. We did get a very nice gift basket from one of our first time attendees that was raffled
off as our first prize. Everyone enjoyed the evening and wanted to know when the next event
was!
If you didn’t attend you missed a great time. If you have suggestions for a future club event let
someone on the board know as we are planning 2017 and welcome suggestions. It is your club!

Join the Jersey Shore RegionOn Saturday, January 28th
at 2:00 p.m.For Our
“New Member Meet & Greet”and Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona viewing
The Rolex 24 at Daytona starts on Saturday, January 28th. JSR plans to host a party starting at 2:00 pm at Woody's in Farmingdale on Saturday for the start of the 24 hour race. This is a great opportunity for new members to come out and get acquainted with existing members of the Jersey Shore Region.
We would also like to invite you to watch Bodymotion Racing in the Continental Tire Challenge race held the day before, on Friday 27th. This event is new this year as it is a 4 hour endurance race for the first time. Bodymotion Racing has two horses in the 60 horse field. Info on the race and channel are below.
Daytona FL 1/6/17,
IMSA sports car teams teams take to the high banks at the World Center of Racing, Day-tona International Speedway to kick off the 2017 racing season. The official test before the 24, known as the “ Roar” was open to all teams. The Bodymotion Racing guys were no exception and entered the event with two Porsches. The familiar #12 Porsche GT4 Clubsport campaigned in 2016 with three wins returns with Cameron Cassels and Trent Hindman along with ST series contender Bodymotion #31 Porsche Cayman driven by Derek Jones and newcomer to the team Drake Kemper. Both Bodymotion entries came out of the box fast. The #12 GT4 showed segment times equal to and better than last year’s pole times, even with the additional 150 pounds of ballast mandated by mid sea-son BOP changes. The #31 ST Cayman times were consistently in the top three by test day’s last on-track round.
The team appreciates the fan base country wide and especially from our own Jersey Shore Porsche Club Region. All races can be watched and heard live on your computer at : http://sportscarchallenge.imsa.com/
The race will also be aired later on FOX Sports 1 channel, watch the listings for IMSA Continental tires Challenge Series.
