THE SEMINAR >>

Palm oil is an important commodity in South-East Asia (SEA), especially in Malaysia and Indonesia. The commodity crop has adapted well to the local environment and has contributed significantly to the country’s economy. However, some of the underlying threats to the oil palm industry in SEA remain similar (e.g. bagworm, Oryctes, nettle caterpillars and rat, Ganoderma disease and weeds). The infestation of these pests and disease had resulted in significant loss of yields. With the increasing hectarage of oil palm planted areas, there is a major concern on the outbreak of the major pests and disease.

Numerous research programmes have been carried out to manage these pests and disease. Thus the 5th MPOB-IOPRI International Seminar is hoped to provide recent updates and generate new ideas to further discuss pertinent issues in relation to major pests and Ganoderma disease.

This seminar is organised in conjunction with the MPOB International Palm Oil Congress (PIPOC) and the ISOPB-MPOB Seminar on Oil Palm Breeding.

OBJECTIVES >>

1. To update on the recent findings and status of major pests, Ganoderma disease and weeds in oil palm.

2. To set a platform to discuss the technologies on biological control and integrated management of pests, Ganoderma disease and weeds.

2

PROGRAMME >>

The programme will include oral and poster presentations. Oral papers will be presented by renowned international speakers. Topics of interest will focus on epidemiology, predisposing factors, biological control, and integrated management of major pests, Ganoderma disease and weeds in oil palm plantations. Papers are invited for presentation at the Seminar. For those who are interested to present papers, please note the following deadlines:

Submission of full manuscript : 31 August 2013

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? >>

Captains of the industry, investors, plant pathologists, breeders, entomologists, agronomists, members of associations, environmentalists, scientists, academicians, students, policy makers and those interested in plant protection.
