B o t a n i c a l S e r i e s Images by Gerald Lang and Jennifer Anne Tucker“The Botanical Series: Photographs by Gerald Lang and Jennifer Anne Tucker” illustrates the crossover of art and science. For centuries, botanical prints and drawings have been used as keys for identification of plant species. In “The Studio at Hill Crystal Farm,” Lang and Tucker updated the concept to produce images of surprising clarity and beauty.

“The Botanical Series” offers a contemporary rethinking of botanical art, integrating 21st century digital imaging technology and reconnecting plants to their earlier mystical and herbal uses. It also merges the individual expertise of this husband-wife team in a creative and collaborative process. Tucker’s extensive research and practice as an herbalist combines with Lang’s digital processing skills to create extraordinary images made using a scanner and digital printer. Tucker gathers the plants and composes them on a scanner in a manner that emulates their natural movement and gestures, gently coaxing leaves and petals into a natural gesture that expresses the unique geometry of the plant. Lang scans the plants into digital files that are prepared for printing; no camera is used in the process. The results are often considered by viewers to be imbued with the essence or spirit of the plant.

Guitarist Jeff Troxel and fiddler Trevor Krieger, both accomplished musicians in many genres, bring a concert of traditional and contemporary fiddle music, jazz, classical and original music. Both of these award-winning musicians began playing at an early age and both have racked up significant musical accomplishments.

Troxel is a guitarist, songwriter, composer, and educator from Cody, Wyoming. He holds music degrees from Berklee College of Music and the University of Southern California. He has won state flatpicking championships in Wyoming and Utah, and is the 2003 National Flatpicking Champion. His songs and compositions have won awards from the John Lennon Song Contest, and the International Bluegrass Music Association, and he is a two-time winner of the Performing Arts Fellowship in composition from the Wyoming Arts Council. Troxel has performed with many notable artists, including Bobby Shew, Sunny Wilkinson, Frank Mantooth, Jack Reilly, Pete Huttlinger, Warren Chiasson and James Naughton. He has published

several guitar books through High View and Mel Bay Publications. Troxel is currently on the music faculty at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming.

Krieger, a Billings, Montana, resident, picked up the violin at the age of 4 and hasn’t put it down since. He began playing with the Billings Symphony when he was 13. He has competed in fiddle contests in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Canada, and was named Montana State fiddle champion numerous times. Krieger performed at the Kennedy Center and the White House, and has shared the stage with Jay Unger and Molly Mason, Ray Charles, the Moody Blues, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and many others. He also performs with a number of groups in many styles, including jazz, country, rock, fiddle and classical.

Both Troxel and Krieger easily cross musical boundaries to incorporate many different styles of music into their show. There’s something for everyone and audiences of all ages will enjoy their performance.
