Welcome to our church! May this worship experience be one that lifts the name of the Lord above all names.
On this Sunday, we seek to be transformed by our Lord and King as we continue our journey through Lent.
May we recognize the ways in which God's glory is revealed in our lives, the community, and in the world
universal, each and every day. Let us worship God together with grateful hearts.

PLEASE NOTE: If needed, large pr int hymnals and sound amplification devices are available in the
Narthex. Please see an usher for assistance in obtaining these items.
GUEST ARTISTS:
The Anthem and the Benediction will be sung today by the quartet Spontaneous. Spontaneous is a female
barbershop quartet consisting of Lyn VanDervort, tenor; Janine Hepner, lead; Becky Worthington, baritone,
and Tammy Wiley, bass.
Lyn VanDervort will be the Introit soloist. The liturgical dance during the Introit will be performed by Jessica
Williamson. Both are members of SAPC. Thank you for sharing your gifts for God’s glorious day.
We once again welcome Camille Rosier as our guest accompanist. Camille is an accomplished pianist with
over 21 years of performance experience. She is a graduate of the Petrie School of Music at Converse
College. She is also a music teacher and has received professional certification from the Music Teachers
National Association (MTA). She is also a member of the Delta Omicron international music honor fraternity
and the Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society.
The season of Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and self-examination
in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord at
Easter. It is a period of 40 days — like the flood of Genesis, Moses’
sojourn at Mount Sinai, Elijah’s journey to Mount Horeb, Jonah’s
call to Ninevah to repent and Jesus’ time of testing in the wilderness.
(The Sundays in Lent are not counted in this reckoning of the time
between Ash Wednesday and Easter, as every Lord’s Day is a
celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.)
In the early church, Lent was a time of preparation for the
celebration of baptism at the Easter Vigil. In many communities of
faith it remains a time to equip and nurture candidates for baptism
and confirmation and to reflect deeply on the theme of baptismal
discipleship.

*Call to Worship (Responsive) 8:45 a.m. Crissy Waller
11:00 a.m. Alice Kierspe
One: Remembered for an extravagant act,
All: She is remembered for the beautiful thing she has done - One: expensive oil poured upon Jesus’ head,
All: boldly inheriting the act of anointing. One: Scolded by some, but defended by Jesus:
All: “Wherever the good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be
told in remembrance of her.”
All & One: Let us worship God.
*Prayer of the Day (Unison)
God of our ancestors past (men, women, and children of the faith) through Jesus Christ you call us to
repent and return from our wandering ways. Lead us safely home, O Lord, so that we might be
reconciled to you and to one another; in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

*Prayer of Confession (Responsive) 8:45 a.m. Crissy Waller
11:00 a.m. Johnnelle Ramsey
Gracious God, we confess that too often we pass judgment upon others, because their behavior seems
excessive & extravagant to us. We neglect to realize that there is no one right way, but there are a
diversity of ways to serve you. Forgive us for trying to control the abundant ways that others express
their love and service to you. Forgive us for our short-sightedness and sin. Give us the strength, O
God, to glorify and enjoy your abundant love.
(Time for Silent Confession)
One: Relying on the merciful love of Christ our defender, the people say:
All: Amen.

*Passing of the Peace (11:00) (Responsive)
One: Since Christ has extended to us the peace of God, let us, as his disciples, spread his peace to others.
The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Let us exchange signs of Christ’s peace with one another.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD
*Hymn #324 For All the Faithful Women
*Affirmation of Faith - A Brief Statement of Faith (#4-6) 8:45 a.m. Mary Bunch
11:00 a.m. Johnnelle Ramsey
We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by
grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us
together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. The same Spirit who inspired the
prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the
Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of
salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church. In a broken and fearful world the
Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and
Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to
work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we
strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God's
new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from
the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

GREENDALE BOOK FAIR
Remember those math story problems you had in school? Well, here’s an easy one.
Take 2 happy children receiving their very own books to take home and keep for summer reading. Add 12
more children and you have a WHOLE classroom of smiling faces. Multiply that by 5 more classes and you
almost have a WHOLE school of smiling faces! What would it take to see that many smiles? Maybe some
books to have of their very own. What would it take to get those books in the hands of children? Subtract any
amount you wish from your checking account and write a check to SAPC with Greendale books in the memo
section. The smiling faces will reappear this May! We have collected over $600 to date and have a goal of
$3000. You do the math. It’s that easy!
EASTER EGG HUNT ACTIVITIES

In preparation for the big day, we are asking for donations of plastic Easter eggs filed with wrapped candy.
