The Scientific Revolution

The Scientific Revolution was a time period after exploration, in which new scientific ideas and mathematical concepts were developed

It was heavily influenced by the Renaissance (there it is again!) and also was a direct result of exploration.

New cultures had ideas and technologies that Europeans could adopt (borrow, steal, copyright infringe) and then adapt (better).

What was the Scientific Revolution?

Until this point, the sole authority on the universe was the Catholic Church.

But Scientists began to question accepted answers and looked for evidence to solve problems.

The Church was not happy about this concept. More on this tomorrow.

A Brief Look into the Future!

An ancient Greek scientist named Ptolemy stated that the Earth was the center of the universe and the sun (and other planets) traveled around the Earth.

Catholic priests believed this because of a verse in the Bible that says the earth (us) are the “apple of God’s eyes.”

Most Famous Thing Scientists Questioned….

A brilliant scientist named Copernicus came up with the heliocentric theory (sun is the center) of the universe.

Galileo proved him right using his telescope and observations of the universe

Reality Check

Isaac Newton was an English scientist who came up with the theory of gravity.

He also invented calculus, came up with several scientific and math laws, and invented the scientific method.
