SOI ELEMENTARY YEARBOOK SALE SOI Elementary School yearbook order forms were distributed to students. The cost of the yearbook is $12.00 and is due no later than March 23. Don’t miss the window to purchase this memory!

REMINDER FROM THE CLINIC Two reminder from the clinic:1. Students may not carry medicine with them or in

their book bags. This is dangerous for many reasons. Please bring medications that need to be taken during the day to the office, fill out the proper paperwork, and the clinic will receive and administer the medications to students.

2. Students should not be texting parents from school requesting to go home due to illness. The proper procedure is to visit the clinic and let our medical care professional determine if a child needs to go home. This is happening too frequently. Please follow our school protocol.

Thank you!

THIRD GRADE HAPPENINGS Updated 3/7/19

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

● After Spring Break Mrs. Kozak will be taking over when Mrs. Reed is on maternity leave. This will be a nice transition since she was here at the start of the school year as well.

● Pink kindness challenge charts were due on March 8th, but will be accepted on Monday the 11th.

● End of the 3rd quarter is March 13. Report cards will be emailed by March 22.

MATH with Mrs. Wadsworth

All math groups are working on geometry. We are studying shapes, angles and lines. We are learning how to use protractors which is fun too. Reviewing this at home is a good idea- we will be taking an assessment on these concepts soon. Next up (for most of the rest of the school year) will be fractions. Looking forward for a change in topics - it will be a lot of fun hands-on activities. We hope to get into the FabLab to create some fraction related “stuff”! :)

DISCOVERY with Mrs. Reed

We spent the week wrapping up our study of government by taking a look back at our big question- What if we had no government? Students wrote an argumentative paragraph on which government department they believe is essential and should survive a shutdown.Economics is the last social studies concept this year and we can’t wait to make some connections to the Lemonade War novel the students have been reading in literacy.

LITERACY with Mrs. Rosciszewski/Mrs. Kothera

We began our new novel study using The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. Some of the skills we have practiced using this novel are: main idea & key details, point of view, compare/contrast, character traits, figurative language, and cause & effect. After we read a new chapter I am posting audio of the chapter in google classroom. If your child is absent, feel free to have them listen to any chapters that have been posted. You are also welcome to listen to chapters together if you would like to have conversations about the book, but please do not have your child complete any of the assignments at home. We are continuing to write opinion/persuasive pieces to practice supporting our opinions with reasons and evidence.
