Children learnt that being mentally healthy means we must take care of our emotions and learn how to deal with the ups and downs of life. To achieve this we must use the 5 ways to well-being, which help us to cope better. As part of our launch assembly we learnt what they were: Be Active Be Kind Take notice Connect Keep Learning In school this will translate to many different activities. This week we have launched some of them. The Golden Mile: (Be Active) Children will be taking part 3 times a week in running, walking or jogging the golden mile. By doing this together with the staff, all children develop habits of healthy exercise. Mindful Minute: ( Take Notice) As part of recognising the wonderful world around us and so pausing to enjoy it, all children will be taking part in a simple minute of meditation in class during the day. This helps children to be calm, reduces anxiety and improve mental health. All the children have really embraced this already. Do ask your child what they think! Perhaps they can share their thoughts with you. Growth Mindset ( Keep Learning) Currently in school, children are taking part of a project known as Reflect-Ed. This helps children articulate and explain what learning they have received and evaluate how they could learn better. As part of this, children learn about a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset means that you are open to new learning and recognise that any one can achieve anything if they have an open mind and work hard.

During Aspirations week, Adrian Bethune will be visiting us and will give assemblies to consolidate all the learning the children have had in class.

Commonwealth choir Members of our commonwealth choir were lucky enough to visit and record in the Abbey Road Studios last week.

They visited the very room where the Beatles had recorded all those years ago. How exciting!

They were also able to attend a recording with Mica Paris.

We are now looking forward to the

recording being released on CD.

Well done to those children who have been learning their music so well.

This week, Year 4 went to KidZania in Westfield London, to challenge

themselves in every way possible; from 'working' to earn money, to deciding whether to 'bank' it for later or spend their hard earned money! KidZania provided children with the confidence to challenge themselves and inspire them to explore the world of opportunities; blending learning and reality with entertainment.

Reading Workshop

St. Edward’s held a Reading Workshop for Early Years and KS1 parents on

practical ways to help their child to read and the approaches we use to teach reading in school .

We looked at the way we identify sounds in the environment in nursery and how the first letter sounds (phonemes) are introduced, leading on to more complex sounds, blending and spelling patterns.

Reading is vitally important to success in school and later life, and it was encouraging to see so many parents who came along.

For those parents who were unable to attend the presentation, a handy booklet of ideas can be accessed from St Edward’s school website.

The Mini Vinnie’s attended the annual Mini Vinnie festival at St Helen’s School, with all the other deanery schools on

Thursday 18thJanuary 2019. At the festival

we gave a presentation sharing all the charitable deeds that we as a school have accomplished. We came away inspired with more ideas of how we can live out the examples set by Jesus and St. Vincent de Paul in being disciples of Christ.

Next week is our Caritas and Citizenship week. We, along with other deanery schools, are raising money for UNICEF. On Friday 8th February, we would like pupils to donate a minimum of £1 for a blue and white (colours of the UNICEF logo) dress up day. We thank you in advance for generously supporting this project .

Seeing that many others have undertaken to draw up accounts of the events that have reached their fulfilment among us, as these were handed down to us by those who from the outset were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, I in my turn, after carefully going over the whole story from the beginning, have decided to write an ordered account for you, Theophilus, so that your Excellency may learn how well founded the teaching is that you have received. Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout the countryside. He taught in their synagogues and everyone

Well Being Coffee Morning will be on the 13th of February.

He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day as he usually did. He stood up to read, and they handed him the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll he found the place where it is written: The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord. He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'
