Study area

• Five tributaries • Seven subzones • More than 40

sublakes

• Annual aerial survey data of migratory birds around Poyang Lake from 2001 to 2009 are used in this study . – It takes three days to fly across most of the sub-lakes. Three airlines are

exhibited in this survey (WU et al. 2010). The flight altitude is 80-200m, and the flight velocity is 120-180km/h. The population and types of migratory birds are determined by the manual record with the help of GPS, television camera and long-zoom camera (WU et al. 2010).

Data

• Water area of Poyang Lake, 620 cloud free MODIS data granules were selected from February 2000 and December 2010.

• MODLT1T, ten days composition MODIS land surface temperature data (MODLT1T) from 2000 to 2010

• If the absolute value of the correlation coefficient is larger than 0.67 (r2>4/n, n=9), the downscaled variables have significant correlation with the population of migratory birds (Cowles and Davis, 1982).

• Dominant ecological variables are different for subzones: – Cropland is the dominant class in InZ and GRZ. Forest, cropland and grassland

are the dominant classes in XRZ Water, river beach and forest are the

dominant classes in RRZ .LST is the dominant variables in NCZ

• The scale-independent ecological indicator are benefit for the analysis and prediction of the migratory birds’ population
