I Am Malala ■ This book sounds so amazing and

interesting. I am definitely putting it on my summer reading list! I love how it makes you realize the value of education more deeply, because I know I take my education for granted everyday, and I’m going to try to not do that anymore. Malala sounds like an extremely strong willed woman who perseveres through the unimaginable. She sounds very inspiring. I look forward to reading this soon!

The Other Wes Moore ■ This book is definitely on my

list of books to read. I think this book is very relatable, especially for educators, because we have to be aware that every student has different backgrounds and home lives. I firmly believe that every student needs that inspirational role model in their life in order to help them succeed because it’s hard to do it alone without the support or guidance. Every person can succeed in life with the right resources and with their own intrinsic motivation that comes from within

The Hate You Give This book seems so interesting to me and I feel like I can relate. Being a Salvadoran American, sometimes I struggle to fit in both worlds. Just like Starr, I feel different no matter where I am because I worry that I won't live up to expectations. I can feel like I'm not Hispanic enough or I'm not American enough. It can be hard, but at the same time I am happy to get to experience and be a part of both sides.

Transliteracy is the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks.

Radiant child is about the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This book tells the story of Basquiat’s childhood and how he came to be the famous artist he is now known as. The book is written and illustrated by Javaka Steptoe, who borrowed from Basquiat’s painting style while incorporating his own for the book. That is also what I did for my “art work”. I’m not an artist, but I tried to use the colors and style of both Basquiat and Steptoe while telling another story of "radiant children" along with adding events that happened in “Radiant Child” (him getting hit by a car) and some components he was best known for (the crown, teeth, skulls, cars). I thought this book was interesting because Basquiat came from a multicultural background, half black and half Puerto Rican and actually spoke 3 different languages, but the book didn’t speak at all about the hardships he must have faced growing up in the 1960’s... I guess that’s why I brought some attention to that in my painting with Basquiat at the bottom with the boxing gloves fighting “the man” or society or even his inner demon but it’s up to interpretation, (It actually looked like Voldemort first then looked like Trump before I started drawing all over his face hahaha (unintentional)). Throughout the book, young Basquait keeps saying “I’m going to be a famous artist”. My question to all of you is, how important do you think it is to encourage children to follow their dreams, even if it is being a “famous artist”? Also, do you believe you can speak things like this into existence? 🎨🎨👨👨🏾🏾 🎨🎨🚗🚗 #followyourdreams #BeAnArtist #notasinglestory
