Dale Warland, Conductor and Music Direc-tor of The Dale Warland Singers, has drawnacclaim as a choral conductor. Currently.Dr. Warland is also conductor of theMacalester Concert Choir, which tours bothnationally and internationally, and theMacalester Festival Chorale. Dr. Warlandhas prepared his choirs for performanceswith various organizations led by such con-ductors as Antal Dorati, Stanislaw Skrowa-czewski, Robert Shaw, Dennis RussellDavies and others. Dr. Warland receiveddegrees from St. Olaf College, the Universityof Minnesota and the University of SouthernCalifornia. His academic honors include aTanglewood Scholarship and a Ford Founda-tion grant. Dr. Warland is also an activecomposer and arranger and has recentlyestablished his own choral series with Jen-sen Publications.

•••••SPCO Associate Conductor WilliamMcGlaughlin joined this Orchestra in 1975as the SPCO's Exxon! Arts Endowment Con-ductor. Since then, he has led the Orchestrain performance throughout the U.S. includ-ing a 1977 Inauguration Week performancein Washington, D.C. Prior to that, Mr.McGlaugWin was Assistant Conductor of thePittsburgh Symphony Chamber Orchestra.He has guest conducted the MinnesotaOrchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, theDenver Symphony Orchestra and the NewJersey Symphony, and most recently guestconducted the Northwest Chamber Sympho-ny (Seattle) and the Richmond Symphony inVirginia. Mr. McGlaugWin was AssistantMusic Director of the White Mountains(New Hampshire) Art and Music Festival fortwo summers and he has conducted at thePlatteville (Wisconsin) Music Festival andthe Cabrillo (California) Music Festival aswell.

The Dale Warland Singers,organized in 1972, is rapidlyattaining acclaim both athome and abroad. Comprised

f 44 singers from the Twin.ities area, the choir has

developed its reputationthrough its musicality, versa-tility and programming. Itsrepertoire includes, for anextensive part, standarda capella music, however, theSingers have also made sig-nificant contributions withperformances of 20th centurymusic. The long list of com-posers includes a wide varie-ty of nationalities andmusical styles. The DaleWarland Singers haveappeared with the MinnesotaOrchestra, the SPCO, and theMinnesota Opera Company.Major works in its perfor-mance repertoire includeBach's Passion According toSt. Matthew, Mozart's Requi-em and Handel's Messiah.The Singers have concertizedthroughout the central por-tion of the U.S. and have beenbroadcast over public radio.In 1977, The Dale WarlandSingers toured Scandinavia

Lisbeth Lloyd, soprano, comes to SI. Paul from the HiddenValley Opera in Carmel, CA, where she appeared as theGoverness in The Turn of the Screw, Monica in TheMedium, Micaela in Carmen, and Lauretta in Gianni Schic-chi. A regional finalist in last year's San Francisco OperaAuditions, she received her training at Wheaton College inMassachusetts and the Iuilliard School. This fall she madeher Twin Cities debut singing Barber's Knoxville: Summer

, of 1915 with the Minnesota Dance Theatre. She also singswith the Minnesota Opera Company. Very much at home

L- with recital and oratorio performance, her concert solo~ appearances have included the Requiems of Brahms, Moz-

art and Faure, Handel's Judas Maccabeus, and Mozart'sExsultate Jubilate.

Mezzo-soprano Janis Hardy has been featured with theMinnesota Opera Company for seven years and will appearin the Company's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's ThePirates of Penzance later this season. Aside from her localperformances, Ms. Hardy has appeared in concerts andoperas and on radio and television throughout the UnitedStates. Her appearances include 1977 performances at theCabrillo Music Festival in California and with the BostonOpera, and earlier this season, she appeared with theKansas City Lyric Opera. During the past several years,Ms. Hardy has soloed under many conductors, among themStanislaw Skrowaczewski, Dennis Russell Davies, PhilipBrunelle, Aaron Copland, Robert Wagner and HelmuthRilling.

Tenor Donald Hoiness began his serious musical study asan instrumentalist with piano and oboe, later going on tovoice. Holding music degrees from SI. Olaf and the Univer-sity of Colorado with additional study at Juilliard, he is arecipient of several awards including a fellowship grantused for study in France. He has specialized in the music ofthe Baroque period, particularly the Evangelist roles in thePassions of J.S. Bach. He has appeared in a Town Hallrecital in New York, in television recitals, with the Minne-sota Opera Company, and as a recitalist and lecturer oncollege and university campuses throughout the country.Mr. Hoiness is on the music faculty at St. Olaf College.

Bass-baritone John Stephens holds a Doctor of MusicalArts Degree from the University of Illinois, and was aFulbright Scholar in Hamburg. He has appeared with theLake George Opera Festival for six seasons; has spent fiveseasons with the Asolo Opera; has sung with the BaltimoreOpera, Sarah Caldwell's Opera New England, AugustaOpera, Piedmont Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Stu-dio; and has made concert appearances at the KennedyCenter, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and theNational Cathedral. This season, Mr. Stephens' appear-ances will include with Augusta and Piedmont Operas andthe Baltimore Opera among others, and a scheduleof concert appearances and work as an Affiliate Artist.
