Michaelhadgrownintoatallman,

Hehitchhikedeverywhereandtravelledallovertheworld.

Michaelhadbecomeveryadventurous.



Sometimes,hesleptinatentinthecenterofadistantcity...



...orinthemiddleofnowhere.



Occasionally,hejustslept

inasleepingbaginthemiddle

ofasteepmountainpath.



Ifhewasreallywetandcold,hewouldknock

onafarmer’sdoor,andaskifhecould

takeshelterinthefarmer’sbarn.



Onetime,Michaelheardacougarcirclingaroundthehammockinhisbedroominthewoods.



Michaelranawayasfastashecould,buthedidnotletthisfrighteningincidentstophimfromgoingonhisriskyventures.



Hetookbicycleandrafttripsinisolatedareas,

scaledicecliffs,



Heflewinandoutofthemostdangerousairportintheworld.

andsurfedrivers.



Michaelespeciallylovedmountainclimbing.



Onetime,hestraddledaveryhighmountaintopasifhewasridingahorse.



Michael’sMomworriedwhenshesawallthescarypicturesofMichael’sexploits.

Shewasafraidhewouldgethurt.

Sureenough,afewweeksbeforeChristmas,Michaeldidhaveanaccident,

butitwasnotinafarawayplace.



Ithappenedathisworkintheairport,rightinhishomecity.

Michael’sfingertipwasseveredwhenitgot

caughtbetweentwocolliding

baggagecarts.



Eventhoughthedoctortriedtosewthefingertipbackon,

iteventuallydiedandhadtobecutoff.

ThismadeMichael’sMomverysad.

ShethoughtMichaelmighthavetroublescalingcliffsandclimbingmountains.



Michael’sMomdidnotknowhowshewouldbeabletoenjoy

Christmaswhenshewassosad.

Shewonderedifhewouldever

beabletoplayhisukuleleorguitaragain.



Michael’sMomwantedasignthatJesus’lovewouldbewithher,evenwhenshewasdownhearted.

Sheprayedandlookedeverywhere,butcouldnotseeasign.

Tohersurprise,asignofGod’slovewasfirstsenttoMichael.



Ithappenedonthedayhewasdrivingtothehospitalsothesurgeoncouldcutoffhisdeadfingertip.

Michaelturnedontheradiotohearsoothingmusic,buthedidnotlikethesongsthatwereplaying.

Hewantedtohearhisfavouritesong,the‘CelloSuiteNo.1inG’byBach.



MichaellikedthispiecesomuchthatoneChristmasEve,afewyearsback,hehadrentedacelloandtriedtoplaythesong.

Michaelpulledthecarovertothesideoftheroadandletthetearswellupinhiseyesashemadepeacewithhissadness.



Michael’sMomwasverygladthatGodhadgivenMichael

asignofJesus’love,butshewantedtohave

herownsigntocomforthersadness.

Eventhoughshedidnotfeellikeit,shestarteddecoratingthehouse

forChristmas.



ShedisplayedherChristmastincollection,

hungherspecialteddybearsonthestairrail,



putuptheChristmas

tree,



andtriedtobuildagingerbreadhousewithhergrandchildren.



ButshedidnotfindasignthatGod’slove

wouldbewithherwhenshewasdespondent.

Inspiteofherfeelings,shesetupthenativityscene:



thestonewallandthetrees,



thecamelandthewisemen,



andtheshepherdwithhissheep.



Shefoundanangel,butitdidnotmatchtheset,sosheputitonadifferenttable.



Finally,shefoundJoseph,Mary,andthelittlemanger.



SheunwrappedbabyJesuslast,becauseHewasthecenteroftheChristmasstory.

Sheverycarefullyremovedthetissuepaper,butwasdismayedasshelookedatthefragilebabyJesus.



Michael’sMomdidnotknowhowthishadhappened.Shedidnotwheretofindthefingertipstogluethembackon.

Twoofthefingertipsweremissingfromoneofthetinyhands.



Michael’sMomgentlylaidthesmallinfantinthemanger.

Asshelookedatthebrokenfingers,sherealizedthatthenativitybabyJesushadadamagedhandjustlikeherson,Michael.



SherememberedthatwhentherealbabyJesusgrewup,hishandshadbeennailedtoacrossforeveryone'ssins.Hehadfeltpeople'spainandsorrow,evenhers.

Michael’sMomwasreassuredthatJesusunderstoodhersadnessandMichael'sloss.ShehadreceivedhersignofGod'slove.



NowMichael'sMomknewshecouldenjoyChristmas.

Whenevershewalkedbythenativityset,

shelookedatthetwobrokenfingersandfeltthepeaceinthesadness.
