Page 14: The SA PHN Immunisation Hubsaphnconference.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/AngelaTracy... · The SA PHN Immunisation Hub Angela Newbound ... upload immunisation records for children

Overdue Adults• Considered the ‘poor cousin’

• Last adult vaccination survey was undertaken in 2009

• Vaccination rates:• 74.6% of Australians aged 65 years and over (2.2 million people) were vaccinated against

seasonal influenza• 54.4% of Australians aged 65 years and over (1.6 million people) were currently vaccinated

against pneumococcal disease • 11.3% of Australians aged 18 years and over had received a pertussis vaccination as an adult or

adolescent (booster introduced into the School Program in 2004)• Unacceptable – coverage this low would not be acceptable with the children's program

• Preventing hospitalisation from VPD’s• Champion Nurse involvement• Encourage providers to offer recommended vaccines • Encourage providers to record adult immunisation on the AIR

• Immunisation providers play an important role in promoting vaccination during adulthood
