THE ROW HOMESI have always been intrigued with the concept of the row or townhome and live/work typologies. For the live/work typology, I am fascinated by the possibility of living and working in the same building so I decided to explore this interest in this designThe building is made up of 4 units consisting of a 2 story residential unit and a floor for retail or business activities. In keeping with my interest in sustainable and green design, the units are separated by ‘the wall’, a space that includes a water retention system, plumbing, utilities and a battery system for the photovoltaic that supply power to the individual units . In addition to this feature, the single pitched roofs in the individual units allow for the penetration of abundant natural light so there is little or no need for artificial lighting during the day. The buildings are clad in Corten steel, concrete and reclaimed lumber, creating a dynamic façade and interesting façade that requires little or no long-term maintenance.
