JOIN OLM’S CHILDREN’S CHOIRBeing a part of a children’s choir gives our childrenan opportunity to serve our church. ReligiousFormation and other activities minister to children, but joining a choir gives children a chance tominister to others through music. Additionally,

participation in a choir gives children an opportunity to take aleadership role in the service. Children's choirs are part of theformation and education process. When children singScripture, they remember it for a lifetime. OLM’s Children’sChoir is open to all in grades 2nd through 8th. We will gather onWednesday, November 1st from 4-5 p.m. at the MinistryHouse (white house directly across the parking lot of theChapel) It’s lots of fun and a wonderful way to pray with yourfriends and to learn music. We also have the opportunity toparticipate in a Children’s Choir Festival, which will be held atAssumption Church in Morristown on Mon 11/6 from 4-6PM. Allare welcome and encouraged to join us. For more info pleasecontact Lisa Dempsey, our Pastoral Associate: [email protected].

FAITH AT HOMEThe words of Jesus are unmistakable; it is notenough to love God if that love does not leadus to loving our brothers and sisters. The Covenant with God calls for both, love ofGod and love of neighbor. Adults: How do I live

out these two commandments in my daily life? Children: How do I treat others in school? Can they see that I am a Christian by the way that I behave? A FamilyPerspective: Together as a family, decide how you canbest follow Jesus’ commandments to “Love God with allyour heart, soul and mind” and “Love your neighbor asyourself”.

OPERATION GRATITUDEOLM Youth Ministry will once again be collectingany extra Halloween Candy you may have. Wewill be donating the candy to “OperationGratitude”, which will send the candy in holiday

Dear friends,

On Sunday morning I visited our Confirmation program where I talked to our young people for a littlewhile. I was really impressed with how good they are. They paid attention and gave me theimpression that they are very committed to the program. It seems that they are very responsiblepeople and want to take their faith seriously. How wonderful it would be if they join our ministriesand become more involved in the parish life.

Speaking about Confirmation, a week ago Bishop Serratelli sent me a beautiful letter in which hethanked me for the hospitality he experienced on October 6, when he came to administer theSacrament of Confirmation to our young people here in our Parish. He thanked me also for thewillingness I showed coming here to a new parish as Administrator. That night he really had a goodtime. The Bishop usually goes home quickly and that night he stayed here until 10: 45pm. He saidhe enjoyed being with us. In his letter he congratulated once again our confirmandi, as well as ourConfirmation coordinators, the servers, music minister and choir and all those who made an efforttogether to celebrate a rousing and vibrant liturgy. The Bishop thanked every one of us for thewelcome shown by the entire community of Our Lady of Mercy. He asked us to keep him in our dailyprayers and assures us of his.

I also visited the Religious Formation Program PreK-5th. They were gathered for some prayers andinstructions and I came in to say hello. One of the catechists asked them what my name was andthey all said “Fr. Roberto”. I was very happy that in a short period of time they know my name andthat I am familiar to them. The Religious Formation Program is one of our priorities because ourchildren are not only the future of the world and country, but of our Church as well. They bringhappiness to us, even if they don’t always behave as well as they should. When parents tell me theydon’t bring their children to the church because they don’t behave at Mass, I always say to them “letthem be children”. It doesn’t bother me if they cry or if they run inside the church as long as we havethem here with us and they learn how to be part of our community.

By the way, we are in great need of catechists. This is a wonderful ministry in which you as aparishioner can pass on the gift of faith to our children. I am 38 years old and I always rememberwith gratitude and love the holy woman who taught me at the church and prepared me to receiveHoly Communion. When I go to Cuba I always visit her. She is an elderly woman now and when shesees me her face is radiant with joy. Once in a while, I make a recapitulation of my life in prayer and Iremember her and pray for her with a thankful heart. Being a catechist is a wonderful way to servethe Lord and our children. It is also a way to make sure our Church embraces new generations ofpeople willing to live according to God’s plan establishing the kingdom of heaven among us here onEarth. Please think about being a catechist. The Lord will be very pleased if you decide to do this.

Finally, on Tuesday morning we had the Ecumenical Retreat for our town seniors. I went to say helloand of course, they wanted me to share some experiences with them. It was very nice to talk aboutholy things with our seniors. The food they had there was also great. It seems they all had awonderful time together.

Let us pray for each other. May God bless you,

Fr. Roberto
