Saint Patrick Parish is a Christian community of disciples in the Roman Catholic tradition, called by Jesus, united in Eucharistic worship and growing in faith, hope and love. Nourished through the sacraments and strengthened by God’s transforming love, we are empowered to know the gospel message and to bear witness to others. As Christian stewards, we are thankful for God’s many gifts and we commit ourselves to share our time, talent and treasure in Christ-like service within our parish com-munity and beyond. We seek God’s blessing and guidance to be faithful to this mission.
MISSION STATEMENT

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK: If you are planning to enter the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or home-bound, call the parish office to arrange for the sacraments of recon-ciliation, communion and anointing at home. Communal anointing of the sick is celebrated at Mass during the Advent and Lenten seasons. WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONERS: The Saint Patrick faith community warmly welcomes you! Please introduce yourself to the celebrant of the mass you are attending as you leave the church so that, on behalf of the entire community, you may be welcomed. THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10 Ezra gathered the people and read to them from the book of the Law of God. He interpreted the law clearly, so that everyone understood what he had read. He then told them to go and rejoice in the Lord. Second Reading: I Corinthians 12:12-30 Paul explains that a body is composed of many different parts, and that each part has its' own purpose and is important. He compares this to the Church, describing how we are one body composed of many members. All members should show concern for each other and understand that we are all vital to the body as a whole. Gospel: Luke 1:1-4, 4:14-21 Luke discusses his decision to write about the events he and the other disciples had witnessed. He begins by telling of Jesus reading a passage from the book of Isaiah, where the anointed one is portrayed. Jesus finished by telling the people that they had seen that passage fulfilled in their hearing.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Two weeks have passed since the end of the Christmas season. Even last week’s gospel had an epiphany, or manifestation, event contained in it. It was through the intercession of Mary that Jesus manifests himself. Jesus now continues to reveal himself in Proclaiming that the promises, or prophetic utterances of the past, are now being fulfilled in his arrival. Nehemiah relates how Ezra the priest-scribe read to the returned exiles from the book of the law. The response which issued from the people was an emotional mix. Weeping upon hearing the words of their God Ezra tells the people that they should rejoice, they should eat sweet foods and drink and be happy in the Lord. Rejoicing in God should also be our response, for there is much to rejoice about when considering that we have been blessed with being the ones who were prophesied about when God said that all the nations would experience a share in the gifts of salvation first promised to his people the Israelites. In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes how the body had multiple parts; that the different members function each in its own unique way; that while there are differences they all work for the benefit of the body as a whole. This unity of functions is then compared to the Church in her members. We are all different but we all contribute to the wonderful wholeness of the Church. Like Christ, the Scriptures we have heard so often, should be incorporated in such a way that they can be experienced by others as reflecting, in a concrete way, our unity in Jesus. Then when we sing hymns stating that we are “one body in Christ” it will be a reflection of the truth. Jesus, in the gospel, tells those in the synagogue that what he had read from the prophet Isaiah, about an anointed one, was now fulfilled at their hearing, demonstrates our own corporal unity with the Word of God in our lives. If we take to heart the teachings of Christ, in both word and example, and make them part of our own lives then it can truly be said of us that we are images of Christ in the world. That those who hear the word of Christ can also see it fulfilled in those who live it. God’s blessings on all.

To our friends, parishioners of St. Patrick’s from the Sisters of Bethany:
The major superior of our religious community in the U.S. has informed us that we will no longer be able to live at Bethany convent after June 2016. This decision is part of an overall strategeic plan for all our ministries and convents in the U.S. The Thevenet Montessori School will continue to operate on the premises and the community leadership is working with the school to help it expand and flourish. Sr. Stella and Sr. Teresita have begun looking for a house to rent in this area. Please pray with us that the Lord may lead us to a place we can continue to live our convent life.
