We are in need of forming a group of volunteers who can assist in cleaning our churches as we re-sume the public celebration of Mass, beginning the weekend of June 6/7. Following diocesan guide-lines for cleaning and sanitation, this must be done between ALL Masses, otherwise we will not be able to continue offering public Mass at this time. Please contact Jerry Wisneski at (724) 532-0166 or at [email protected] for more information for both Saint John and Saint Rose. We appreciate your understanding and willingness to assist with this important matter.
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DINGA
It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we have re-turned to the public celebration of a Sunday Mass this weekend after almost three months. How fitting that we are able to gather together again on the So-lemnity of The Most Holy Trinity, when we cele-brate the mystery of the very life of God who is Fa-ther, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is this very life of the Divine through which each and every one of us was created and in which we as Christians have been in-corporated in a unique way through Baptism. It is the communion of love in which we are called to live and give of ourselves to one another as fellow members of the Body of Christ. As much as all of us have been looking forward to being in church again for Mass, we need to continue to be mindful of the guidelines that have been given to us by the diocese during this time: Those who feel vulnerable because of their age or
health are encouraged to stay home, while those who are sick should not attend public Masses. Streaming Masses will continue.
People will be seated at least in every other pew using social distancing guidelines.
All communicants will be encouraged to receive the Sacred Host in the hand.
The chalice of the Precious Blood will not be of-fered to the congregation.
The Sign of Peace will no longer include a hand-shake, instead we will turn to the person next to us and offer a reverential bow.
Holy water and baptismal fonts will be drained. This coming Saturday, June 13, Deacon Mark Dun-mire will be ordained to the Priesthood at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral at 10:00 AM. Unfortunately, due to the current guidelines, the ordination is by invitation only, but it will however be live-streamed on the Diocesan website/ Facebook page. Please keep Deacon Mark in your prayers this week as he prepares to be ordained a priest in the service of God’s people in the Diocese of Greensburg.
Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who have expressed their sympathy in any way on the passing of my grandfather on May 30. The assurance of your prayers is truly appreciat-ed and will continue to be a source of peace and comfort for me and my family in the days and weeks ahead. May the Lord bless you for your kindness and may he grant my grandfather eternal peace.

Saint Anthony of Padua
The gospel call to leave everything and follow Christ was the rule of Saint Anthony of Padua’s life. Over and over again, God called him to something new in his plan. Every time Anthony responded with renewed zeal and self-sacrificing to serve his Lord Jesus more completely. His journey as the servant of God began as a very young man when he decided to join the Augustinians in Lisbon, giving up a future of wealth and power to be a servant of God. Later when the bodies of the first Franciscan martyrs went through the Portuguese city where he was stationed, he was again filled with an intense longing to be one of those closest to Jesus him-self: those who die for the Good News. So Anthony entered the Franciscan Order and set out to preach to the Moors. But an illness prevented him from achieving that goal. He went to Italy and was stationed in a small hermitage where he spent most of his time praying, reading the Scriptures and doing menial tasks. The call of God came again at an ordination where no one was prepared to speak. The humble and obedi-ent Anthony hesitantly accepted the task. The years of searching for Jesus in prayer, of reading sacred Scrip-ture and of serving him in poverty, chastity, and obedi-ence had prepared Anthony to allow the Spirit to use his talents. Anthony’s sermon was astounding to those who expected an unprepared speech and knew not the Spirit’s power to give people words. Recognized as a great man of prayer and a great Scripture and theology scholar, Anthony became the first friar to teach theology to the other friars. Soon he was called from that post to preach to the Albigensians in France, using his profound knowledge of Scripture and theology to convert and reassure those who had been misled by their denial of Christ’s divinity and of the sacraments.. After he led the friars in northern Italy for three years, he made his headquarters in the city of Padua. He resumed his preaching and began writing sermon notes to help other preachers. In the spring of 1231 Anthony withdrew to a friary at Camposampiero where he had a sort of treehouse built as a hermitage. There he prayed and prepared for death. On June 13, he became very ill and asked to be tak-en back to Padua, where he died after receiving the last sacraments. Anthony was canonized less than a year later and named a Doctor of the Church in 1946.

Saint Barnabas Saint Barnabas, Apostle was born in Cyprus and died in Salamis in the 1st century. The Acts of the Apostles de-scribes Barnabas as 'a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith' (Acts 6:24). His Jewish parents called him Joseph, but when he sold all his goods and gave the money to the apostles in Jerusalem, they gave him a new name: Barna-bas, which means 'son of consolation' or 'man of encour-agement.' Although Barnabas was not among the original Twelve, he is traditionally thought to have been among the 72 commissioned by Jesus to preach; thus, he is given the honorary title of Apostle. Barnabas the Levite lived with the earliest Christians in Jerusalem. He was one of the first to welcome Saint Paul, the former persecutor of the early Church, and his former schoolmate. He persuaded the Christians of Jerusalem to accept Paul's claim that he was now a believer in Je-sus (Acts 9:26-30). Barnabas was sent to Antioch, Syria, to investigate the community of non-Jewish believers there (Acts 11:22 ff), and brought Paul there from Tarsus. It was in Antioch that the followers of The Way were first called Christians. With Paul he took the Antiochean dona-tion to Jerusalem community during a famine. Thereafter he, his cousin John Mark, and Paul returned to Antioch before setting out together on the first mission-ary journey of the Christian church (Acts 13:2ff). They went first to Cyprus, Barnabas' native land, and for this reason Barnabas is honored as the founder of the Cypriot church. Then they continued on to Perga (whence John Mark re-turned to Jerusalem), Antioch in Pisidia (where they were so violently opposed by the Jews that they decided to preach to the pagans), and Iconium (where they were stoned). At Lystra in Lycaonia, they were thought to be gods because of the miracles they worked and the physical beauty of Barnabas. After being taken as pagan gods, they were stoned out of the city, and fled back to Antioch in Syria. When a dispute arose regarding the observance of the Jewish laws and cus-toms, Paul and Barnabas returned to Jerusalem for the council that decided that non-Jews would not have to be circumcised to be baptized. When they returned to Antioch, Barnabas wanted Paul and John Mark to continue their travels with him, but Paul fell out with John Mark--perhaps because John Mark had abandoned them at Perga. In spite of Paul's extremely forceful character, Barnabas took Mark's side, demonstrat-ing that he was a man of considerable determination and courage. The Acts of the Apostles says, "There arose a sharp contention between them. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus" (Acts 15:39). Paul chose a new ally, Silas, and went elsewhere to strengthen the churches. Little more is heard of Barnabas though it is be-lieved that the rift with Paul was healed because we read about Barnabas later in 1 Corinthians 9:6). (Paul also dis-cusses his relationship to Barnabas in his letter to the Gala-tians.) Tradition says that Barnabas preached in Alexandria and Rome, and was stoned to death at Salamis about 61 AD. He is considered the founder of the Cypriot Church.
