playwright, a journalist, and the translator of many English-written

books into Hungarian.

He translated A. A. Milne’s classic children’s book Winnie the Pooh

and it became a huge success with Hungarian children.

His writings reflected the condition of Hungary post-world war-I.

Summary: The play: The Refund is full of humour which deals with an extraordinarily peculiar situation. In this

light and rollicking play the author has condensed his criticism of an educational system into

humorous form.

The main character in the play is Wasserkopf. He is forty years old. He could not get any employment

and wherever he went the people told him that he is fit for nothing

One day he met his friend Leaderer and asked him about his business. When Leaderer told him about

foreign exchange and Hungarian money, he was not able to understand anything and started asking

questions about foreign exchange to Leaderer. For which Leaderer said when you don’t know such a

small thing, what have you studied, you better go to your school and get your tuition fees back.

Wasserkopf who was jobless and didn’t have any finance, this idea sounded beneficial to him and so

he went to the school where he had studied once.

When he asks for the refund of his tuition fees, the principal is shocked because after eighteen years

he has come to the school claiming that he has learnt nothing worthwhile and so he should get his

tuition fees back. The principal is in a peculiar situation now and he calls for an urgent meeting with

all other staff members.

The mathematics master asks Wasserkopf the exact amount which the school has to give him.

Without knowing that he is going to fall into their trap, he gives them the list of expenses. So, the

mathematics master reveals that it was a difficult question he gave the right answer to. He was

declared excellent in the subject, thus proving his claims incorrect. They turned him away.

Circle

A circle is a closed plane figure in which every point on its boundary is at an equal

distance from a fixed point called the centre.

Parts of a Circle Centre: A point inside the circle from where all points on the circumference of circle are equidistant. Radius: The line segment that connects the centre of circle to any point on the circle.

Diameter: It is a line segment whose end points lie on the circle and passes through the centre. Diameter is the longest chord of a

circle.

Chord: It is a line segment whose end points lie on the circle. It may or may not pass through the centre. Circumference: It is the distance around the circle.

Circumference = 2 × π × Radius

Arc: An arc is the part of circumference. Segment: Segment is an interior region bounded by a chord and an arc. Sector: Sector is an interior region bounded by pair of radii and an arc .

The Quadrant and Semicircle are two special types of Sector:

Quarter of a circle is called a Quadrant.

Half of a circle is called a semicircle.

= 7÷2 cm.

= 3.5 cm.

Therefore, radius = 3.5 cm.

Relation between Circumference and Diameter:

Circumference of a circle is slightly more than three times of its

diameter.

( The following explanation are given for your

understanding.)

Drawing a circle with the help of compass

Draw a circle of radius 5 cm with the help of compass.

1. Mark point O as centre.

2. We measure 5 cm using ruler and compass.

3. Now fix the needle end of compass on the sheet and move the pencil arm around it completely

to make a circle.

(To be done in C.W. COPY )

1. Find the radius of a circle whose diameter is 15 cm.

2. Find the diameter of a circle whose radius is 2 cm.

EX – 9.8 ( Q. 1, 2, 3 , 4 ) solve in the book.

And Q.5 a and c in the C.W. copy.
