Early Winters

I'm looking out my window at the field of sparkling snow, And thinking of the fun we had so many years ago. Of sitting in the grain shovel, and sliding down a hill. Or riding an old inner tube would give us quite a thrill. There was no money then, for snowboard or for skis. Or to drive up to a ski resort and pay the hefty fees. If you wanted to play shinny on a lake or local slough. The time to clear the snow off might take an hour or two. Bent willow for a hockey stick, and a horse supplied the puck But if it wasn't forced hard enough, be prepared to duck. Over shoes for goal posts, and no net to make it slow. If you raided the “puck” above the ice, you lost it in the snow. I made my first toboggan from a discarded windmill blade. If you wanted such to play with, it had to be hand made. Each ski was barrel stave, nailed to leaky over flow. In order to play in the snow, such things just had to do. No use complaining, if equipment’s not the best. With any kind of plaything we were heaven blest. We had a longing family, and cozy country home. All outdoors our playground, with lots of room to roam.

Holiday Door Decorating Contest All Residents and Staff are invited to decorate the outside of their room or office doors to express their Holiday Cheer! The winner will be picked on Christmas Eve and will be awarded a special

prize following the Christmas weekend.
