The R/C Flyer - Page 1 Volume 41, Issue 9 September, 2016 Next Meeting September 8th, 2016,Clear Lake Park Building7:00 PM IN THE PITS by Mike Laible I was about to open this month’s newsletter with time flies but I noticed that is exactly how I open last month’s - You know sometimes the time just flies by.So with that I need to change it up. How about, it’s getting near election time for the club. So the process is: nominations by close of the October meeting, vote by end of November meeting, and new officers take the appointed positions on January 1 st . Nominations are open, however, nothing is mentioned about needing a second. Hummm, forgot to get that added. I think it was always assumed a second is needed. This may be a Roberts rule. Anyway, let’s think about this at the next meeting. We also need to nail down the fun fly and start talking about Christmas party. Jeff Donehew fixed the database problem and everything is back to normal. Thanks a bunch Jeff It seems like I have been so busy lately travelling, flying other airplanes, studying, etc. that the news letter time comes up faster than I wanted. Sorry this is so late. One item that was a nice trip is that I travelled to St. Louis for my sister’s wedding and got a whole afternoon building with Pop. Below is a pic of Pop and I finishing one side of the P40 wing. It went smoothly and the bantering back and forth was delightful. I hope to have some more time in the coming months. On another note, next Tuesday I hope to be a legal UAS pilot. How about that. It’s kind of a strange studying for a test. Haven’t done that in awhile. As bugs bunny would say, That’s all folks. Safe Landings and Godspeed, Mike L. The R/C Flyer

IN THE PITS by Mike Laible

I was about to open this month’s newsletter with time flies but I noticed that is exactly how I open last month’s - “You know sometimes the time just flies by.” So with that I need to change it up. How about, it’s getting near election time for the club. So the process is: nominations by close of the October meeting, vote by end of November meeting, and new officers take the appointed positions on January 1st.

Safe Landings and Godspeed,

WHATS UP AROUND THE CLUB by Mike Laible

First up this month is a couple of pictures I acquired from the JSC RC Group. This a an email group me that 15-20 JSC members are part of and we share the latest news. Russ sent these pictures. The left one is the beginning of Labor Day. Nice morning and everybody ready to fly. The right pic is a little confusion and dumb thumbs. It happens to all of us. Sorry Russ and Jerry. I think Russ was replicating the Flight of the Phoenix and Jerry redesigned his plane to be a missile.

I just returned from a company trip to Moscow. This is a bi-annual technical meeting, alternating between the US and Russia. This one was in Moscow. I have known the two main loads engineers, Doctor Sergey Bobolov and Alexander Moshinko. I have known these men for 15 years and wanted to get them something special. So I got on-line and wanted to find a couple of aviation books, in Russian, to present to

them. I have been reading about the US-Russian lend lease during WWII. I found a couple of books recommended by Vsevolod Karateev. His company is in Moscow and was going to drop them off at my hotel. Wow, international relations. Below are the books.

The night before he was to deliver the books, he offered to be our guide and take us to the Russian Air Force Museum. You should have seen the faces on my NASA sponsor when I told him this, he said “Have you met him” – NOPE. Well we went for it. o off to Monino we went.

This pic is of the B-29 the Russian Air Force copied. They actually built 849 of these planes. Magnificent. Tu-4 Bull (most Russian planes did not have names)

Of course the lent B-25. I noticed that the pic I have did not show the Russian star.

Now here is a good one. I do not know why the wings were missing but this is a C-47 built in Moscow. It seems that Lisunov had the license to build theses – over 4000, Li-2

    Mil M-12, largest Helicopter.

    Experimental lifting body.

The next three aircraft I did not get the names
