World War II• Educated at home in Windsor Castle during the
Blitz in 1940.• In 1945 the
young Princess joined the war effort training as a driver in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service.
Princess, Wife, and Mother• Married in 1947 to distant
cousin Philip Mountbatten.• The Princess used ration
coupons to buy materials to make her wedding dress.
• They had four children.• Their first born child was
Prince Charles in 1948.
From Princess to Queen• Following the death of her
father King George VI in 1952, Princess Elizabeth became the new Queen.
• After months of preparation, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on the 2nd June 1953
• This was televised and the huge public celebrations were broadcast across the country, the Commonwealth, and the rest of the world!
