way to live, so as to be a citizen of theKingdom of Heaven established on theearth.

Many a man will have his eyes openedearly, while passing through this war,to know what true life is, and the wayto enter into greatness and nobility in afew years, instead of living a long lifeof ordinary eating, sleeping, and pursuing foolish pleasures, to die finally ofsenile old age. And the way this promotion to the greater life can be accomplished is not by men's experience uponbattle-fields, but by having theirthoughts and feelings turned Godward,through the prayers of their faithfulones and the demands upon their ownsouls, made by the exigencies of the lifeinto which they have been pressed.

those to yield who should give up, andthose to win who are genuinely seekingGod's will and the Good of the whole.

Inspiration, skill, bravery, high andhonorable ways and means shall provethe real instruments of winning, —amaximum of spiritual means and thesaving of men's lives, and a minimumof violence and the destruction of life.

Real LifeWhat is a man's life? Is it a little

spark that comes into existence for abrief time, to go out, whither no oneknows? Not so. "The life is the Lightof men—the Light that lighteth everyman that cometh into the world." TheLight and the Life are one, without beginning and without end, and whoeverknows the oneness of these will realizethat his Life is eternally safe and nothing can ever destroy it.

Moreover, the Light has power initself to preserve the body and mind,(these are the lamp that holds the Light)through the co-operation of the mind offaith. Men and women who have beenin spiritual union with God have seen

that Light encircling them, a wonderfuldefense in times of danger.

And by prayer, a circle of this Presence has held strongly about thoseprayed for, so that no fortress could bea better refuge.

True Use of ImaginationInstead of sitting in gloom, filling

one's heart and mind with useless sorrow, every one who is a true Christianshould be sending forth thoughts of theenfolding Presence and Power of theAlmighty God, able to carry everysoldier and sailor, for whom we pray,through the valley of the shadow ofdeath into the clear realm of a wholesome, happy life, unharmed, kept wholeby the grace, and to the glory, of theGod of Truth.

Instead of letting the imaginationrest with pity and sorrow upon thosewho are marching forth to active service, every strong and trained mindshould give each one the thought, "Safein the Everlasting Arms," or "JesusChrist keeps you and brings you outalive," or just the thought withoutwords, adapted from The Armor op St.

Charmed LivesNot a man but shall be brave with

courage of angels who fear no death,even with recklessness of fatalists whofeel their destiny is determined fromthe beginning. For deep within, ourmen can realize the predestination of theOne to be saved, come what may. Theirlives are "hid with Christ in God" andthe immortality of their fortress, Christ,is their security from death.

There is a story told of George Washington when he was a commander in theFrench and Indian war. It is a matterof history that he rode, always a mostfearlessly prominent figure, and thoughbullets and arrows flew about him, hecame through without a wound. Oncean Indian, famous among the Redmenfor unfailing accuracy with every shot,was appointed by his chief to kill theWhite Brave, and to aim his arrowsalone at the conspicuous figure until hebrought it low. But every arrow flewaside of the mark until the Indian laiddown his bow and arrows, declaring

he dared not shoot another, for "Thegreat Brave is protected by the Spiritand no man can take his life."

Character, a TalismanWhat was the charm that this great

man carried with him? Was it accidentor chance that he passed through twogreat wars utterly unharmed? No, itwas the greatness of the man, the bribe-less spirit to whom personal indemnitywas nothing though he spent a large partof his private fortune on the War ofIndependence; who refused to take asalary either as commander-in-chief ofthe army or as president; who savedthe country to democracy, when he couldeasily have become its king. It was thisMan of Principle that was the safetyof his mind and his body through allthe vicissitudes of a mighty governmentin its birth-throes.

And is not this MAN in every manthat goes forth at his country's call?Most certainly. That is the True Lightwhich comes into the world with everyhuman being, the One "that dwellethin the secret place of the most High";and it can cover the mortal with its

Presence until it too can be adopted intothe heritage of the real Heir, the immortality of our great Self, the beloved Sonof God.

The Foreboding SenseThere are some covered with the

darkness of foreboding thought concerning their dear ones, who havebeen registered and may be, if they arenot already, in the conscription. Andsome of the men, who have a certainprophetic sense, feel themselves alreadyvictims of the war.

Wake up! you, with the forebodingsense ! Take advantage of your gift offoresight and prevent the thing comingto pass. You can do it. Death is notinevitable. It is not sent of God—it isthat lie that has made people yield before death, when they would not think ofgiving up to any other threatened danger.

"Forewarned is forearmed!" Openyour eyes and see His angels encampedabout you. Like the disciple of Elisha,you need The Vision, "Fear not: forthey that be with us are more than theythat be with them" (2 Kings 6:16).

The Heavenly PromisesThe same God is with us today ready

to take charge of our life, if we willonly follow His teaching, as giventhrough His manifestation in the flesh,Jesus Christ, our elder Brother.

Be strong and courageous, be not afraidnor dismayed for the king nor for all the

They that war against thee shall be as

Declarative PrayerThe prayer of realization is the ef

fectual prayer; therefore our prayersshould include our declaration of theTruth of God's saving presence andpower; and we must learn to addressour prayers to God within man, not offin the skies or even by our side or theside of our loved one. Find the Lord,his good God, within the one whom youwould protect, and with thanksgivingand praise, acknowledge His protectingpresence and power, and also your owntrust in the goodness, mercy, love-enfolding and life-giving Spirit of the trueGod. Do this until a warm, sweet assurance comes over you that all is well.

Whole Regiments SavedThe word of Truth is the fortress that

can shelter one or a thousand accordingto our faith. And distance is no barrierto the true thought and its Word. Inspirit there is no space ; our souls communicate with each other continually,and our minds radiate and interchangethought every moment. One can speakto a group, silently, addressing the Soul

of the whole, as the Protecting Presence,with results of spiritual power, as easilyas one can deliver a lecture to thousands,the same that has been given to one.

A London doctor, who understandsthis law of prayer, is speaking the word,daily, to individuals by means of his hundred assistants, and collectively to wholeregiments. Letters are coming, floodedwith testimony of the saving efficacy ofthose powerful words. So impressed hasthe public been with the reports, thatthe newspapers are treating the matterwith soberness and dignity, withal it ismost startling to those who have notkept abreast of the times in knowledgeof the power and influence of truethought.

The following are excerpts from alengthy account in the telegraph newsof a daily newspaper:

BULLET-PROOF SOLDIERS,LATEST WAR WONDER.

"Practical utilization of the power of Godby right thinking" is the agency thru whichFrederick L. Rawson, a London scientist, declares he can so treat a man that he will notbe harmed when hundreds are being shot deadbeside him.

This amazing "treatment" includes a newtype of prayer. It is being administered tohundreds of men audibly and to hundreds moreby letter. Nothing since the war began hasaroused so much talk of modern miracles ashave many of the statements of Dr. Rawson.

In one case a whole regiment was given theprayer treatment for an hour before beingrushed to a struggle on "No Man's Land." Inthe fiercest possible encounter not one manwas knocked out.

"Captain will be here tomorrow,"said the Doctor, "At the taking of a woodthere were 500 yards of 'No Man's Land' to becrossed. Then Captain who practicesthis method of prayer, treated them for anhour before they started, and not a man wasknocked out.

"He was the only officer left, out of 80 in hisbrigade. He simply held on to the fact thatman was spiritual and perfect, and could notbe touched. A bullet fired from a revolveronly five yards away hit him over the chest, torehis shirt, and went out at the shoulder. But itnever penetrated his chest. He was frequentlyin a hail of shells and bullets which didn'ttouch him."

Mr. Rawson referred to a letter from ColonelMcGregor at the front. It spoke of protectionfrom the mining of the Germans and frombomb-exploding accidents.

He had his regiment eight weeks under firewithout a man being touched, when all the otherregiments were losing men daily. He since hasbeen promoted direct from captain to lieuten

ant-colonel for his work on this occasion, amost exceptional thing.

Mr. Rawson then said: "Read this letter,"and showed the interviewer a letter from themother of a man at the front, giving a copyof a letter from him as follows :

"Have just come out of the 'Big Push' without a scratch, quite safe and cheery! All theother officers in my company were killed orwounded—I am the only one left. Thetook all before them and pushed the Huns backfor miles. We suffered heavy casualties, butmy life seemed to be charmed; shrapnel andbullets whizzed all around me but did not seemto find a home in my body."

"Now read this," and he handed across asecond letter, lately received in which the sameofficer writes as follows :

"We were absolutely surrounded by Boches,and in order not to get taken prisoners, we hadto make a dash for it under cover of darkness,amidst a veritable hail of lead. Hell on earthisn't the word for it. Anyhow, we have finishedfor a bit now, as the brigade no longer existsto all practical purposes. . . . Only twoofficers came out unhurt, a captain and I. . .

You and I know the reason why I got thruwhen everybody else went under."

"The non-bursting of the shells around me,"said the colonel, "was so remarkable that a report was made about it."

While the reporter was in the office two military officers visited Mr. Rawson to relate theirexperiences.

The first was Lieutenant-Colonel B ,

of a famous Midland regiment, the same whowas promoted direct from captain to lieutenant-colonel. He "treated" for himself while at thefront—he returned to London after short leave—and testifies to extraordinary results.

His battalion was under fire in the front andsupport trenches for eight weeks continuously,and during that period not a man was touched.

He himself was wounded in the left shoulder.The bullet entered by the collarbone, but whenthe doctors examined him, tho there was notrace of the bullet having passed thru and out,no bullet was to be found. Lieutenant-ColonelB——r- is of the opinion that it was demateri-alized by "treatment."

The other officer was Captain N actingas second in command of his battalion, who hada similar tale of hairbreadth escapes. Once hewas in a railway smash, and tho his car wastelescoped, he got off without a scratch.

The New WarfareIt is a day for us to realize that all

things are subject to thought; even thebombs can fall into a sea of thought,that can act upon them like water, rendering them powerless. The very bullets, sent by our men can receive a newcharacter, not killing but simply makingour brothers in opposition to us—wewill not call them "our enemies" —out of •

commission for the time being.20

For, that the Word may be ever effectual, there must be no hatred, no revenge, no desire to kill, but only thesupreme God-wish for all enmity tocease, for war to pass away forever andthat all instruments of killing be destroyed. It is written "He that takesthe sword shall perish by the sword,"but if sword be taken to destroy sword,and bullets but destroy guns, and cannonoverthrow cannon, then is a good workdone and the end of the war hastened.

Death Destroyed in VictoryThe Mind of God can ever direct the

minds of those who seek His will andHis way, so that all that they do shallresult in destroying destruction and insaving men's lives.

Therefore let us see that God's victory in the war is won by brother-loveand not by violence; and to invoke theDivine Aid is to open the way for thefinal Victory that shall bless all humanity and glorify God with such paeans ofjoy, that the sound thereof shall ringdown through the ages, a song to silencethe Morning Stars for very ecstasy.
