Well we started off the tournament with a bang. It looks like we will have 2 tagged redfish winners from the first weekend (Press release below). The potential winner of the Chevy Silverado from the Super Chevy Dealers of New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Acadiana goes to James Loup. He caught the fish between Lafitte and Myrtle Grove. The second one was caught by Lloyd Pickering of Baton Rouge that caught the fish in Floatation Canal near Port Fourchon. And he will potentially take home the new travel trailer from our friends at Bent’s RV. And believe it or not, there was a third fish caught from the bank near Leeville by an unregistered angler. So there are 97 left in the water across the coast. And speaking of the 97 fish left, I want to thank all of the taggers that helped us get the fish out. It was a mad dash, but they made it happen. For example, see below in our pro tip)? We have a great group of volunteers and guides that help us catch the fish and tag them ensuring everyone along the coast has a chance at catching one. Be sure to continue to watch our emails and social media. There will be some more clues coming out soon.. but as you know 3 people already didn’t need them. Well it looks like the wind is finally slowing down this weekend and we expect to see a full leaderboard next week. So good luck! Rad P.S. Please forward this to any of your buddies that haven’t signed up yet because James and Lloyd are proof it only takes one cast!! THE PROS CORNER THE PROS CORNER Right now the fishing in Terrebonne Bay is on fire even if it is windy. We are finding clean water around some of the old islands, oil and gas structures and reefs. Of course the fish love live shrimp but we have had tremendous success with the Power Bait, Pro Grub in Opening Night color. If you find the right conditions, make sure to try all parts of the water column and both live and artificial baits. Sometimes a little change makes a big difference. Good luck in STAR. Capt. The CCA Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo (STAR), presented byChevron, kicked off its 26th year of competition early Saturday morning along the coast ofLouisiana. In keeping with the start of STAR tournaments of the past, the first taggedredfish was caught opening weekend and so was the second!

On Saturday morning, James Loup checked his email and saw a STAR advertisement. Ashe put it, he “broke down and registered.” While he went to work for a few hours, hiswife did some further research on the tournament and joined as well. Late Saturdayafternoon, they hit the water for a little crawfishing and red fishing. And that’s when ithappened, James hooked the first of 100 tagged redfish of the 2020 STAR Tournament.James and his wife then headed to the new weigh station at Nick’s Marina in Lafitte whereit was verified.

Pending further investigation and polygraph examination, his cast will net him a brandnew Chevy Silverado donated by the Super Chevy Dealers of Acadiana, Baton Rouge andNew Orleans.“We are happy for James, who has been a faithful Ride the Bull participant for years, thathe decided to sign up for STAR and it payed off,” said Rad Trascher, CCA Louisiana STARTournament Director. On Monday evening, another first time STAR participant got lucky. Lloyd Pickering, ofBaton Rouge, sought shelter during a mid-day rainstorm at Port Fourchon Marina. Heasked Kat, who runs the marina, what tournaments are going on this summer and shesaid only one and handed him a STAR brochure. He decided to fill out the form and send itin. A few hours later Lloyd found a redfish with a red tag in it and quickly returned to themarina to show it to Kat and register it. The fish was then verified at the CCA office onTuesday morning.

Pending further investigation and polygraph examination, Lloyd’s last-minute decision willnet him a Keystone Passport travel trailer from Bent’s RV.There was also a third tagged redfish caught from the bank in Leeville, this time by anunregistered angler.

“So there are 97 tagged redfish still out there,” says Trascher, “and some incredible prizesincluding Nautic Star and Mercury boat packages and Gatortail boat packages and that’sjust for the tagged redfish division.”Should the first two tagged fish hold up, the next three prizes are 195 NauticStar andMercury Outboard boat packages and then the sixth prize thru the tenth prize areGatortail boat, motor and trailer packages.

“Special thanks to the Super Chevy Dealers and Bent’s RV for providing such great prizes,”said STAR Chairman Snoop Roth. “And we still have a ton of other great prizes includingthe bonus prize money from Louisiana Sportsman Magazine, so don’t forget to become asubscriber.”

STAR offers over $500,000 in prizes and lasts until Labor Day, September 7, 2020. Thetournament spans the entire Louisiana coasts and has over 25 divisions. So there are stillplenty of reasons and time to sign up.“I am so excited!” Loup said. “If you are not a member or signed up for the CCA, pleasedo so, it’s a great program that helps protect our favorite pastime.”

Registration for the tournament is only $35 and you have to be a CCA member toparticipate. To register as well as see a complete list of divisions, weigh stations, sponsorsand rules, visit CCASTAR.com.
