• Medical Research:

1.used to save humans from illnesses or help them lead better, healthier lives

2.the studies are often beneficiary to animals such as the case of heartworm medicine

3.using animals with certain characteristics similar to ours to minimize the number used

Research or Testing improved (treatment for)1. Open-Heart Surgery – repair of the heart while blood flow is

maintained mechanically2. Rhesus Factor – Rh positive people have in blood, causes

hemolysis and anemia3. Hepatitis – inflammation of the liver caused by infectious

and/toxic agents4. Burns – caused by hot things such as fire or things on a fire5. Memory Research 6. Psychiatric and Psychological Studies – to treat mental disorders

or studying the mind7. AIDS – caused by the advancement of HIV, causes susceptibility

to a number of infections8. Cancer Research – to find possible ways of treatment for cancer

Morality1. Supporters say animals have the right to

live their own lives peacefully.2. Also said that we shouldn’t be allowed to

mess with them just because we can.

Usefulness1. Some believe many of the goals of this type of testing

are not significant.Ex: the blinding of rabbits for new mascara and other makeup

2. Effects of the drug on animal may differ from human reaction.

3. Being in unnatural conditions or pain and distress may cause inaccurate or consistent results.

Animal Testing

• Whether or not animal testing is right or wrong in any sense, it has lead to breakthroughs in medical technology and other studies.

• Not all studies lead to positive results so the testing may have been a waste. By supporters it is considered a lesson learned that we know there may not be an effective cure or outcome of the tests.

• Nearly every state in the US has an anti-animal testing organization and almost every large country has the same.
