THE PROCLAIMER
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, BIG SPRING, TEXAS The miss ion of F i r st Bapt ist Church is to evangel ize the unsaved, d isc ip le the saved
and nur ture a l l church members .
We are happy to announce
that Worship Choir Rehearsal
will begin on Wednesday,
June 3rd at 6:00 p.m. We will
continue to have rehearsal in
the sanctuary during the summer months due
to the lack of air conditioning in the choir room.
If we need to continue practicing social
distancing, we can do that better in the
sanctuary. We hope that you will join us.
A special thanks to our worship band, tech
crew, and singers that went above and beyond
during the time that we couldn’t meet together
in corporate worship. Everyone was up for the
challenge and we appreciate the talents that
each of you bring to the table each week.

FROM THE PASTOR
ACTS 1:8 OPPORTUNITIES
During these pandemic days, I have had countless
people text, call, or email to let me know they are
praying for me. These words of encouragement have
humbled me deeply. I thank you! The following has
been prepared for churches who will pray for their
Pastor. So as you pray for me, let the following guide
you. Pray that I will…
Seek First the Kingdom of God
Pastors are pulled in many directions. They are tasked
with leading staff, planning services, preparing
sermons, offering counseling, mediating conflict,
growing the church, increasing offerings, leading in
the community, and more. Yet, nothing is a greater
priority than seeking the Kingdom.
Love God with My All
Pastors do not get an exemption from loving God with
all their heart. In fact, they should model it for
congregants.
Strengthen My Marriage
It is a temptation for pastors to take on the needs of
the church and community and overlook the needs
within his own household. Pray that your pastor loves
his wife as Christ loved the church.
Preach the Gospel
Pastors are told to “grow the church” and “draw a
crowd.” Many have used this exhortation to abandon
the gospel for something more pleasing to the ear of
the masses. Many pastors grow so fatigued that their
zeal for the gospel fades. Pray that your pastor keeps
the gospel a priority and preaches with passion.
Have a Vision for the Church
Churches live and breathe on the local level. Your
church is at its best when it is faithful to Jesus Christ
and faithful to meeting the needs of its community.
There is a temptation for pastors to follow methods
found successful elsewhere, an urge to do what is
popular, hip, or trendy. Yet, a pastor needs a vision for
his own church in his own community.
Be Filled with Discernment and Wisdom
Pastors make decisions that impact the spiritual care
and development of a congregation. These decisions
should never be made in haste or with human wisdom.
Find Rest
There are always sermons to write, people to see and
call, community events to attend, and meetings to lead.
Yet, the pastor cannot lead without rest. Far too many
pastors burnout and leave the ministry causing
personal and congregational pain. Pray for your pastor
to rest.
Thank you for praying for me as we walk this
unprecedented road together. I long to worship with you
this Sunday!

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering-Because of the
COVID19 virus we have fallen way short of our
$15,000 goal for the offering for North American
missions. The North American Mission Board has already frozen money promised for all new church
planters for the fall. Let’s do our part in helping to
make sure that planters have the resources available to
begin churches and reach people with the Gospel
across North America.
Thank you for helping with the drive-through food
pantry this past month. We served 51 families, with 20
of those being families we have never before served.
June 11 will be the date of our next drive-through
pantry. Be mindful of this by praying for and giving to
this ministry.

WELCOME BACK!!
We have had to make some changes to our summer schedule recently. Be sure to read carefully so you will know the latest information.
VBS This year, instead of a large group one week VBS event,
we are going to try doing Neighborhood VBS! This means
we need YOU to volunteer to host a one day VBS event in
your yard for your specific neighborhood! Get a friend or
two, or your family, to help you! I will provide everything
you need...an invitation, suggested schedule, the Bible
story, activity ideas, craft and supplies, and a snack! This
will be a more relaxed atmosphere, and each one will be a
little bit different. It will not take much in the way of prep
work for you, it is only a one day commitment, and can last
2-3 hours just depending on your group and what you
decide to do with them. This is a fantastic way to get to
know the families in your neighborhood better. if you do
not have children in your neighborhood, let me know and I
will add you to our list of people that can help someone
else host one! Let us not waste this opportunity to do
things a little bit out of the norm and a little bit out of our
comfort zone. Let us use this year’s unusual
circumstances to really reach out to our neighbors and
spread the love of Jesus throughout our city.
CAMPS Unfortunately, we have made the hard decision to cancel
our children’s camps planned for this summer. There are
just too many things out of my control when it comes to
camps...who we are bunked with, where they came from,
their hygiene practices, etc and etc. Hopefully, we will be
able to do something fun together before school starts
back in the fall. I will keep you posted! This just in…(Sadly,
Student Life has just canceled all camps for this summer,
reaffirming our decision to go ahead and pull out.)
SUMMERAMA At this time, we are planning to begin Summerama on
June 16th and go through July 30th. (this is, of course,
contingent on Gov. Abbott allowing us to open up.)
Summerama is for children who have finished
Kindergarten through 6th grade, and meets on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 9 am to 3 pm. Fees for this summer
will be $70 for June and $140 for July. REGISTER
ONLINE to secure a spot as space is limited!

YOUTH NEWS COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Coming Out of Corona, Camp and
Coming Together
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for a
little normal. Living through all this
quarantine and social distancing has been
really hard on me. I am ready for us to be
together; ready to enjoy each other’s
company. I hope as we move forward you
will look at and examine what God has been
showing and teaching you during this time.
After getting some bad news about camp
being shut down, it was good to be able to
tell you about our new camp. We will be
going to a YM360 Generate Camp in Lake of
the Ozarks, Missouri. Please note that this is
tentative based on the State of Missouri’s
COVID-19 guidelines for camps. Forms that
you will need will be on the church website
on the Youth page under ongoing events or
can be picked up at church on the youth
parent’s table. Please visit the website to get
more information about camp this summer.
The cost has increased but a generous
donation given will cover the extra cost. The
cost for camp is $359, but we will only be
charging you $329. Most of you have
already made most of your payments and I
will include your last payment information
with the information I mail out. We have 4
or 5 spots left, so let me know if you want to
go and haven’t signed up yet.
Youth Bible Study began on May 20 at 6 pm
in the youth room. We will meet from
6-7:30 each week (this includes hangout
time). I am looking forward to getting
together to play, worship and study
together. I hope that y’all are as excited to
get back together as I am.
Roger
We are beginning our school
supplies collection for families at
the Mission Center a little earlier
than usual. If you wish to donate
supplies, you may bring them to the
church on Sunday mornings. There
will be a table set up inside the
west doors for supplies. We are
also taking monetary donations.
Thank you for ministering to these
families who are in need. If you
have any questions, contact Tammi
Jones at 432-213-2509.
