A Brief Summary of PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solutions

PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solutions make it possible for users to print to any PrinterOn-enabled printer in the world without having to install print drivers or connect to a secure network. There are two types of delivery models, a public cloud solution for public printing locations such as hotels, airports and libraries, and a private cloud solution for enterprise and education.

In both cases, printing methods are similar. Printing can be done from any smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC simply by emailing documents to a PrinterOn-enabled printer, uploading documents to a web printing portal, using one of the mobile printing apps available for BlackBerry®, iOS® and Android® devices or by using the PrintWhere® driver which allows printing directly from within any Windows® application.

Users release their documents at the printer using a keypad, PIN, swipe card etc. depending on deployment. Documents are always kept secure.

Where the two solutions differ is how they are deployed and where the document processing takes place. The cloud-based solution uses the PrinterOn public cloud (Internet) to process and encrypt documents. The on-premise solutions are deployed directly on-site and all processing and encryption of documents is done in the “Private Cloud” so data stays within the boundaries of the secure corporate network. The on-premise solutions also utilize the PrinterOn cloud-based Global Directory. This directory provides a number of functions such as: keyword and geo-based searching, employee and guest access control, reporting services, access to the PrinterOn network of public print locations and the ability to bridge disparate networks.

The availability of the third-party PrinterOn Connector for SAP now extends the capability of both PrinterOn solutions, cloud-based and on-premise, to enable printing from any SAP module to any printer at any location.

Current Challenge for SAP Users

Many organizations use SAP as their business system connecting them to multiple locations and suppliers around the world. Currently, a user of SAP can print from within any module to a printer they are directly connected to. But what if the user needs to print specific documents to other printers at their location or across networks to another corporate office, supplier or customer? These locations may currently use expensive dedicated VPN connections or hard copies are mailed to the destination which is time consuming.

A Remote Printing Solution for SAPThe PrinterOn® Connector for SAP® is a third-party NetWeaver-based interface developed by Automation ERP Inc. that provides integration between SAP enterprise resource planning software and PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solutions. It allows users to print documents from SAP to any printer, at any location that is PrinterOn-enabled. This integration supports both the PrinterOn public cloud and private cloud PrinterOn Enterprise solutions.

Applications - User Scenario

ABC Company needs one of their suppliers in Asia to have access to specific work order and identification labels to place on a new part that will be shipped back to manufacturing in the U.S. Currently ABC Company prints these work orders and labels out and has them physically shipped to the supplier in Asia which costs the company time and money. The PrinterOn Connector for SAP would enable ABC Company to print the work orders and labels directly from within SAP to printers located at the suppliers’ office in Asia simply by clicking “print” and eliminating the need for printing and shipping hard copies. (PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solutions support a wide variety of laser (document) printers and barcode (label) printers.)

How the PrinterOn Connector for SAP Works

The PrinterOn Connector for SAP provides integration between SAP and PrinterOn Mobile Printing Solutions. It enables users of SAP to print to any PrinterOn-enabled printer at any location. Based on SAP standards for the Output Management System (OMS), it is implemented in the SAP instance with no need for external middleware. Through standard SAP spooler configuration, the PrinterOn-enabled printers are attached to the PrinterOn Connector.

When an SAP user wants to print to a PrinterOn-enabled printer, they simply select the printer from the same list as any directly connected printer and press the print button. The PrinterOn Connector receives the spool job and then it is processed, encrypted and delivered to the PrinterOn Delivery Hub (PDH) where it waits to be released. The PrinterOn Connector queries the PrinterOn service for the status of the print job and reports that status back to the SAP ECC spooler. In the event of a failure, the PrinterOn Connector can send emails or SAP workflow events to the user.

The PrinterOn Connector for SAP is delivered as a fully integrated package that can be installed directly on the SAP ECC instance. The package can be configured by any BASIS administrator the same as they would configure any other OMS solution.
