His Excellency Shri V.P. Singh Badnore; Hon’ble Governor of Punjab,Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh, President; Board of Trustees; Modern Schools, Dr. S.Y.Quraishi, Chairman; Managing Committee,Modern School Barakhamba Road, Members of the Board of Trustees, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It is a joy and a privilege to welcome you all to the 96th Founder’s Day of the school. It is that time of the year once again when we gather to salute the visionary zeal of Lala Raghubir Singh.
96 years ago, in 1920, as a young 26 year old, he dreamt of an institution that would be a perfect synchronization of modern education and Indian ethos. And, thus, was born the Modern School.
An eminent, distinguished personality of stature as our Chief Guest hardly requires any introduction. However, I shall briefly introduce him. Shri V P Singh Badnore is, presently, the Governor of Punjab.
Hailing from the erstwhile royal family of Badnore in Rajasthan, he has dedicated his life to the cause of his constituency and the BJP. Amongst his noteworthy achievements are three distinguished tenures in Parliament, as both a Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha member. He was a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for four terms and also held the portfolio of Minister of Irrigation in the Rajasthan Government before he moved to the National turf. An alumni of Mayo College, Ajmer and ASCI College, Hyderabad, Mr Badnore has wide and varied interests. He is a keen swimmer, a wild life photographer and nurses a fondness for vintage cars. He has also authored a book ‘Jaimal Vansh Prakash’ on the history of Mewar and Mertiya Rathore. Rajya Sabha records describe him as an agriculturist, environmentalist, social worker, and a sportsman.
He is not only an avid politician but also a wild life enthusiast and has been actively involved in the conservation of Tigers. As Chairman of the Tiger Task Force, he was instrumental in rehabilitation of tigers in Sariska, at the time when poaching of tigers had been at an all time high and all the tigers had been poached in Sariska in 2003-2004. Rehabilitation of tigers was done by translocation of tigers from the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. First time in the world, such a Herculean task was carried out. Panna tiger reserve also followed suit and tigers were then rehabilitated there as well.
He was also selected in the Times Of India survey of top 25 MPs’ of Lok Sabha during the year 2003-2008. Sir, We are indeed honoured to have you amongst us this evening. I would also like to extend a hearty welcome to his spouse Mrs. Alka Singh.
Modern School Barakhamba Road has been able to grow remarkably in leaps and bounds under the able stewardship of Mr. Ashok Pratap Singh, President, Board of Trustees, Modern Schools. He continues with the aspiration of Lala Raghubir Singh and provides us with his unstinted support in our mission to provide holistic education to the generations of tomorrow. His faith in us,along with the guidance of Dr. S.Y.Quraishi, Chairman, Managing Committee, Modern School Barakhamba Road and other Members of the Board of Trustees, motivates us at Modern School, Barakhamba Road to continue to strive harder and better ourselves to achieve greater heights in all the spheres. Let me tell you, that for us at Modern, the sky is not the limit.
