If you have a neighbor who does not have e-mail, please take a
few moments to print this and pass it along. Bloomin’ beautiful azaleas at the Annotto house.
With the bridge opening behind us and still more
work left to complete, I want thank everyone for their
patience over these last 8 months (262 days to be ex-
act..........but who was counting?). The contractor will
have limited crews onsite and in the water as they com-
plete their final tasks over the next few weeks. Upon
completion of the remaining work they will then enter
into the demobilization stage for the project which will
include the removal of the temporary bulkhead placed at
the southwest corner of the bridge. There will be occa-
sional lane closures during this timeframe and the work
hours will be more consistent with a 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
work shift. There may however be an occasional late day
for the placement of the final asphalt top paving course.
Thanks again for your patience and I hope you enjoy
your new bridge. (John V. Nolan, Engineer In Charge)
The Power of Teamwork
Thanks Everyone!
Work in progress at the north end looking south.
The Saratoga Lake Association, and especially your edi-
tors, would like to express our sincere appreciation to Engi-
neer in Charge, John Nolan and the NYSDOT for all their
hard work. John has been very responsive and has kept the
lake community up to date on the progress throughout the
last “262 days” of the project. His presentations at our
SLA meetings were thorough and solicited great questions
and detailed answers.
Thanks to all of you who submitted photos of the
bridge and to everyone in the community who showed so
much interest in this project. Ready—Set—Roll!
From the north looking south with many activities ongoing at once in
preparation for the opening.
Watch for bridge opening
photographs coming soon!
So Far So Good!!
This spring has been rainy, but ice-out and rainy weather
have, for the most part, not resulted in damaging lake level
conditions so far in 2011. The dam at Winnie's Reef has
been and still is wide open, and the lake has been rising
and falling naturally as runoff from the watershed rises and
falls naturally.
For the last 6 weeks, to keep our membership well in-
formed about the lake, a dedicated team of volunteers has
devoted many hours to reading our lake level gauge and
posting the level on the SLA website,
www.saratogalake.org. This informative feature has proven
to be quite popular; Month-over-month website visits have
increased 57% since this feature has been added. Thanks
to all those volunteers who helped. They are: Andre Bigos,
Alice Evans, Dave Lord, Walter Supley, Tom Whalen, and
Mark Welcome.
Hopefully, a new automated gauge for monitoring lake
level will be available in the near future. Meanwhile, we
could use some more volunteers to read the gauge near
the Route 9P bridge. Contact Sharon, Julie, or Kay to
help. It's easy. Anyone can do it.
Thanks,
Kay Sanford, Chair
The Lake Level Initiative
United Way offers number for free information . .
The United Way of the Greater Capital Region is
now offering a free information hotline. The 211 number
connects the caller with someone who can help with infor-
mation and referrals about human services. It’s a way for
residents and newcomers who may not know where to
find information about healthcare, insurance, respite care,
food pantries, etc.
The call center is in Albany and open Monday through
Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are always wel-
come and can inquire about helping by dialing 211.

Hello from the SLA Events Committee
June is quickly approaching and we have some an-
nouncements to make.
The New Bridge Dedication Celebration was postponed
due to uncertain conditions both near the bridge and at the
Tropic Hut. The Events Committee truly apologizes for any
inconveniences this may pose and does promise to resched-
ule it when we believe the entire occasion will run as
smoothly and successfully as we hope it will. Stay tuned for
the new date...
Mark your calendars for Thursday July 14th at 6:30- the
3rd Annual Cocktail Party on the Veranda at The Saratoga
National Golf Club. This year we will enjoy complimentary
hors d'oeuvres once again along with a cash bar overlooking
Saratoga National's scenic course. The cost per person this
year will be less than years past- to be announced. Take this
chance to reconnect with those you may have missed seeing
after a very, very long, cold winter.
Sunday September 11th from 1-4 we are planning a 'Bon
Voyage Summer' get together. The details are yet to be an-
nounced, so stay tuned.
In May, the Welcome Boat Committee met and assem-
bled 12 beautiful baskets that will be delivered within the
next few months to new residents moving onto Saratoga
Lake. We are hoping to target new lake neighbors who live
next door to current SLA members. If you know of a new
permanent resident moving in and would like us to relay a
basket to you so you might welcome them in, please contact
Dianne Fedoronko at [email protected]. If you are
uncomfortable making the delivery, we will do so on your
behalf — just relay the pertinent information as to who,
where and when. Our Welcome Baskets are full of wonder-
ful coupons, discounts, maps, guides and more and they are
suited to new residents moving in, compliments of the Sara-
toga Lake Association.
Thank you so much and have a safe and wonderful

Summer residents, Dave and Penny Cronin, returned recently
from a trip to visit their new grandson in California. Pictured

and newest addition, Colin.
This unique photo was shared via email and it’s special enough to pass
around. This sunset at the North Pole is one of the rarest pictures you’ll
ever see in your lifetime. The sunset shows the moon at its closest point
to the North Pole and the sun is below the moon.

Campfire Courtesy
Please remember that you have neighbors when you de-
cide to have a fire. Some people have breathing problems
that are exacerbated by smoke. Being aware of the wind di-
rection is a significant factor when burning a campfire, and
courtesy dictates no fire when the wind is blowing.

Dear Friends:
I would like to take a moment to express my apprecia-
tion to residents, taxpayers and Saratogian readers for shar-
ing their suggestions on how the City Council should allo-
cate the much-anticipated Video Lottery Terminal (VLT)
aid.
I read with interest the numerous responses, varied
ideas and the anonymously posted suggestions. I will be
sharing them all with my fellow Council members as we
make our decisions. The VLT aid is due to the City by the
end of June and the Council will be putting a plan to-
gether over the next month for this allocation.
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your
thoughts. Your input is vital to the success and future of
our City.

Round-About Malta
The New York State Department of Transportation
has begun work next week on projects to "improve traffic
flow" on Route 9 in Malta and Round Lake. The project
will also close Maltaville Road — which stretches between
routes 9 and 67 — permanently.
The planned improvements are as follows:
New roundabouts at the intersection of Stonebreak Road
and Route 9, the entrance to Luther Forest Technology
Campus, and at a new entrance into LFTC on Route 67.
That project will cost $3 million.
Realigning the intersection of Route 9 and George Ave-
nue, creating a "gateway" to Round Lake, and eliminating
the intersection between Route 9 and Maltaville Road.
That project will cost $875,000
According to a state DOT official, the projects are a
response to evolving traffic patterns and volumes in the
area.
Construction is already under way to widen a section
of Route 67 to allow another roundabout to be built at
the intersection of Route 67 and Luther Forest Boule-
vard. For most of that project, traffic on Route 67 will be
limited to one lane in each direction, but for about two
weeks a detour will be in effect. The DOT did not specify
when that detour is expected to go into effect but said the
project will be completed by the end of the summer.
Once completed, that roundabout will become the main
entrance into LFTC.
The intersection of Route 9 and George Avenue will
be reconfigured into a "T" intersection. When that is com-
pleted, Maltaville Road will be closed, according to the
DOT that closure will "reduce traffic in the village (of
Round Lake), preserving the community’s historic
charm."
While the roundabout at Route 9 and Stonebreak
Road is constructed, which is expected to begin in late
summer, two lanes on Route 9 will be closed and one
lane will be open in each direction.

Message From Malta Health Officer,
Gayle Buckley M.D.
Mosquitos - Spring is the time of year
when you need to be concerned about
mosquito abatement. Standing bodies of
water such as buckets and tires should
be emptied or drained. DUNKS are
available from the Town Clerk, Flo Sickels.
Ticks - Ticks will be back out bringing with them
Lyme’s disease. It is important that all animals be
treated. Also, inspection of your own body after being
outside, with prompt removal of ticks, is necessary.
Rabies - Make sure your pet’s immunizations are up to
date and it is important not to approach stray or wild
animals.
Pool Safety - Safety around bodies of
water is very important, especially
with children. Supervise your chil-
dren at all times when they are swim-
ming in pools, lakes or the ocean.
Sunblock - Consider sunblock early in the spring. More
burns occur early in the season and late in the season
when one least expects sunburn.
Watch for Debris We’re seeing more and more boats on the lake this
spring. Please keep watch for all the floating debris that
plagues the lake every spring. If you see it and can remove
it, please do so. It can help save your and others motors! If
it’s on your shoreline, please dispose of it.
