A Practitioner’s Guide to Herb-Drug Interactions and Safety 4 Units

Surveys conducted in recent years suggest that nearly one quarter of Americans use herbal products. Estimates suggest that 25% of this population use such products along with prescription medications, and that many (up to 72%) do not tell their primary physician about herbal product use. As practitioners, we should be proactive about educating ourselves, and our clients on the concomitant use of herbs and medications, and possible herb-drug interactions. Be sure to order the follow-up class, Herb-Drug Interactions, Case Review (Part 2), where we discuss the case studies from the instructor and attendees of the live class.

Treating Sinusitis 4 Units

Sinusitis is a condition consisting of infection or inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, which may be a result of infection, allergy or autoimmune issues. A newer classification of sinusitis referred to as rhinosinusitis takes into account the thought that inflammation of the sinuses cannot occur without some inflammation of the nose as well (rhinitis). Sinusitis can be acute (less than 4 weeks), subacute (4-12 weeks), or chronic (12 weeks or more). All three types of sinusitis have similar symptoms, and are thus often difficult to distinguish. Roughly ninety percent of adults have acute sinusitis at some point in their life. Andrew Gaeddert discusses little known facts on treating sinusitis, clinical tips, and related symptoms such as sinus headache, facial pain, polyps, congestion, nasal discharge, and the worsening of asthma symptoms.
